Dawn of War III Catch-All

:O

Spoiler:

Titans!

Man, that trailer is dark. Like, not grimdark, but just dark. I don't want to play DoW3 from that, I want to go watch something happy and get my mind off of things.

My only concern is is that it sounds like the RTS base building stuff from the original releases is back in the game. Which is ok, i guess, but personally I preferred the stripped down rpg-lite "single-squad of personalities" thing they had going on in DOW2. But, we'll see I guess.

I'm just thankful it's not gone full-MOBA.

In the meantime, while we wait for more information.... *reinstalls DOW2*

Dawn of War 2 was the closest thing to a spiritual sequel to Myth that I could find. I'd be sad if they pulled the scale back out.

That's WH40K though. So gritty it's like wearing a sandpaper thong and so dark that black coffee seems light and cheerful.

Me too! That was my favorite change from DoW1. I have a problem with games that require base building, in that, it doesn't make sense to me "lore-wise" for lack of a better word. It makes a lot more sense that there's a battle barge sending down drop pods.

@imbiginjapan

Except Myth had fun terrain where DoW2 was just bland. If they added CoH terrain maps, DoW2 would have gelled a lot more with me.

Well, I expected something more along the lines of the DoW1 trailer, where the cavalry comes charging in in the form of a dreadnought. This was just dead bodies everywhere, and more falling like rain.

Lol, I loved it.

I am not thrilled about the mega-units, though:

"Players will be able to command massive units like the Space Marines' Imperial Knight, the Ork Gorkanaut and the Eldar Wraithknight"

Cool!

Honestly I'm good whichever design style they err toward, be it the original DoW or DoW2. Though I was significantly less high on the first one until they added that dynamic campaign in the expansion with the Necrons and the Tau. That made that game for me in a huge way.

Yup! I loved both games so much and the Relic expansions just made them better. Either style is perfectly good for me.

That might have been the single greatest reveal trailer ever... But yeah that was pretty grim. Surprised they don't do a movie already.

In before the WAAAAAAAGGGHHH!
Okay maybe not.
I too really enjoyed the lack of base building in DoW2. I loved DoW1 but for different reasons.
I was bummed that CoH2 didn't follow DoW2 but that means I would not be surprised that DoW3 is more like CoH2 than DoW2.
And I think that the ability to play as the goliaths or whatever they call them confirms that for me.
It makes me sad for one simple fact/distinction: DoW1 was probably the greatest RTS(series) of all time but DoW2 was one of the greatest (probably top 5) games of all time. (in other words I don't think DoW1 makes my top ten games list)

NO. NO! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

I believe the Space Marine flavour ones were Imperial Knight class Titans. I forget what the Eldar variety are called.

Be careful what you wish for... Games Workshop seems to be selling the license to any team with a couple of coins in their pockets. And I think they botched up a CGI Ultramarines movie a few years ago already.

Well hopefully the base building is reserved for versus, multiplayer or skirmish modes and not the campaign.

Or if we are lucky there will be mod tools to mod it out. And I can't believe they would abandon Last Stand mode... (or add some sort of base building to it... yuck!)

From PC Gamer, it's sounding like they're combining the 1st game's mechanics with some stuff from the 2nd game's campaign:

http://www.pcgamer.com/dawn-of-war-3...

It sounds like they're reducing the cover micromanagement(CoH does it better, and melee units just broke all of the cover mechanics in DoW2), and moving more towards large-scale engagements. I'm happy with that.

I'm pretty excited. Relic's version of base building has basically been "Build 5 buildings over the course of the game and then smash your armies together".

After putting hundreds of hours into the first two games, I am already sold on this one

Look's great!

Man, what an announcement trailer! I never played DoW 1, but I loved DoW 2. I really hope this will be a good game. Fingers crossed!

Meatman, you can get the whole DoW1 collection for a practically pennies. Do it, DoW1 is still worth it by a landslide. I recommend buying them all and playing the aforementioned Dark Crusade free form campaign.
I think the only seriously limiting/dating factor is the zoom level is too close.

All the new GW stuff that has been coming out recently is looking pretty good. Battlefleet is fantastic, TotalWarhammer is looking good, Vermintide is entirely competent if not amazing, the pirate on early access got good reviews from RPS. They really seem to have it together.

Edit:
The Deathwatch game also looks great!

Tell me at last GW what the Blood Raven's secret is! Yesss!

My biggest hope is that the single player campaign is co-op.

I'd be crazy for Relic to do each DoW game in the series in a different style. With the new bigger units, I wouldn't be put off if they tried to make it more like Total Annihilation/Supreme Commander/Planetary Annihilation.

1 - traditional RTS
2 - RPG lite
3 - Total Annihilation style

Grab this awesome mod for DoW1 Soulstorm as well:

From the screenshots so far the scale looks more like DoW1 than SupCom.

WOOOOOOO

I'm a bit bummed they're adding base building back in. But as long as I don't have to dick around with 50 workers at the base, I'm okay with it. I want to smash armies together, not play SimCity. I played in 3v3 matches quite frequently in DoW2, and the scale there was pretty great. Lots of crap flying around.

My only real concern is that Relic tends to um... not be good about balancing. DoW2 had some pretty wild swings (the Great Tac Spam Wars), was CoH2 any better?
