Stardew Valley: A Spiritual 'Successor' to Harvest Moon

So I found out what happens when you put over $100,000 in a single day in the selling box:

You lose the first digit! I made $131,064 in that day. Luckily it still reflects that amount in my wallet.

FYI, I didn't save up anything. Just got lucky that all 400+ crops were harvestable that day. Blueberries OP!

All berries are indeed OP. And *gasp*! You sold your Starfruits, unfermented?!

I have more fruit than I'll ever fit into my barrels and preserve jars. I just sell it all! Especially the gold stars.

My Starfruit crop finally finished up in the keg.

This is my largest single-day income so far (22 Summer, Year 2).

It took a while but I finally realized that Pierre and Jojomart both sell flooring and wallpaper for my house. They only sell one random type per day however, so it's a bit of a tossup as to what you get.

This reminds me...is there a way to see how it will look in the house before committing to using it, or do you just use it and hope you like it? I haven't bothered with any of the decorating elements yet other than moving around my existing furniture, so not too familiar how it works.

An aside: this is what happens the moment you give your hoe to the blacksmith for upgrading.

You got hoes on the end of your arms, get digging!

It just occurred to me that since I can't have this on Vita for my commute, I could install it on my laptop and play it that way. I just may have to do that. Is it easy to transfer your save file around?

If you're using Steam version, it uses the Steam cloud for saves - I moved from one computer to another with no problems.

People are able to easily edit their saves to do things like move buildings around their farms, so it should be easy to just move a save file from one computer to another if your save isn't on cloud.

I have my game installed on my little pink laptop and it's really handy to port around!

In game, I have succesfully built and upgraded my new coop and all animals are transferred to ther new home. I plan to turn the old coop into a mineral and seed shed since it's right next to the greenhouse! The reason I moved my coop is because I wanted the coop and barn animals to be able to share the same plot of grass since I finally had enough hardwood to build a fence that will stick around for more than a couple of days.

My soul for a pomegranate in winter!

Check the wagon religiously.

If you have a greenhouse, you seem to be able to plant trees on the pavement around the edges, and most of them seem to be growing, at least so far, even when they're adjacent to greenhouse interior features that are against the wall.

I've been checking that wagon religiously for nearly two seasons now and I swear it's probably sold every fruit besides the pomegranate since I've been looking! Between the wagon and certain other vendor, I'm picking up a good number of iridium sprinklers though.

I thought about planting a pomegranate tree in the greenhouse, but even though trees will grow in there, I've heard that they still will not produce their fruit out of season, so I would still need to wait until fall for the fruit. I'm definitely planting a tree on the first of the spring season so that I will have one in the worst-case scenario of fall though! (It's the last thing I need for a certain other thing, so I'm hoping against worst-case!)

Iridium sprinklers are really handy. I picked up a set of 4 to kit out my greenhouse to capacity. That said while iridium is essentially priceless you'll have opportunities to collect it later on so don't spend too much money this way.

I don't really have anything else to spend money on at the moment anyway, so may as well get the sprinklers whenever I see them. I made a big plot to try to grow

Spoiler:

giant vegetables

but I accidentally took into account paths that I later deleted, so once the vegetables come in and are harvested, I will need to modify it a bit. Drew it out on a whiteboard so I know what I need to do now without worry of the clock ticking down.

Yes, didn't make it back to the house in time before 2am while trying to get things planted and watered (since sprinklers only do it in the morning) and passed out in front of the greenhouse. Got charged 1000g by the Joja rep. Thief! I should be able to pass out in my own yard without being harassed. Joja...more evil than crows I tell ya!

Has the Planner been posted here before?

So do fruit trees grow if they're planted next to the unplowable areas at the perimeter of your farm?

Just started playing today. I'd play this game if the whole goal was to just cut grass. I find it oddly satisfying.

I think I linked it a few pages back. It's had several updates since then and includes almost any doodad you can think of.

I've played around a couple times with the planner just to see how it worked, but I have no real interest in pre-planning out my farm, and it's overly-complex to use just to doodle what ended up being a single 9x9 square with a scarecrow in the middle and four sprinklers.

You just have all 8 tiles around the tree free of anything, so no floors or pathing or grass or anything other than the natural dirt surrounding it. Also, it can't be tilled as that also counts as something on the square. Once the fruit tree is fully grown though, you can put stuff next to it.

I love using the scythe and hacking down the grass...and sometimes hearing the pop of a fiber going into my pack. Just wait until you get a silo and you'll have even more visuals.

I've learned not to fully trust the automatic feeders in upgraded barns and coops. They are supposed to automate the task of filling the feed tray. But I find that sometimes they don't fill every spot and half of my animals are grumpy the next day because they got nothing to eat. I'm not entirely sure why this happens but it seems to be related to rain. On sunny days the animals will wait until I let them out of the coop in the morning and then eat the nearest grass. On rainy days it seems like the animals can forget to eat until the next "tick" when only half of the tray is filled. I'm going to report this as a bug if I can figure out exactly why it happens.

Yeah I haven't used it to plan out my entire farm, just bits and pieces at a time. What it is handy for is getting a birds eye view of the plot and the "effect radius" of stuff like the scarecrow. It tells you in the game that they have an 8 tile radius but that doesn't teach you the exact octagonal shape. It's also handy for making sure that long paths and other straight lines are in the right places because you can only see a limited field of view. The zoom feature only partially addresses this, I play zoomed out all the way and it still feels a mite cramped.

For the most part though your farm plots will always be clustered around your house/the pond for simple practicality.

This problem hasn't happened to me yet. Even though my game has switched from winter to spring, I haven't yet let my animals out of the barn/coop because I'm trying to get the grass to spread so that they won't eat it all in the first two days. Considering how slow the grass seems to spread, I think I am just going to have to resign myself to buying lots and lots of grass starters when winter is done and just do it myself. Spring is already over half done and the grass is still not covering the area.

They've always had food in their feeders though, but I will keep more of an eye on it now.

I haven't added any major paths around my farm, and not certain at this point that I will. If I do, I'll probably make them winding and meandering to fit in with a more natural look rather than the more structured grid patterns encouraged by the sprinklers.

The zoom doesn't go out all the way. I wonder if now that the dev has the zoom feature working if he plans to add a "whole farm" option to it.

I tend to play with a very close zoom though. Not sure why.

Spent some time with Stardew Valley for the first time in a week. Man... still great, and coming up on my 2nd Fall.

I've named my first three chickens McCluck, Megg, and Fheather. Is this the beginning of the end for my being accepted by Stardew Valley's citizens?

Holy crap. I just randomly got this sword while fishing via a treasure chest which is way better than any weapon I've got by about 3-4x in terms of damage.

It's awesome ain't it? I also picked up a really really good ring from fishing chests on the same day I fished up that sword.

I either got that sword or one that was very similar -- and then lost it when the game crashed at midnight.

Sigh.

(edit: I think that's the only crash I've ever gotten, and it just freaking figures that it was right after the best upgrade I ever saw. I've got something better now, but I could have REALLY used that.)
