Black Desert

I think I'll be joining Haven. I hate to be such a noob though as I know very little about the game. Hopefully my willingness to learn is acceptable I haven't put a ton of time into the game but really do want to start ramping up my playtime and to learn as much as possible.

So I picked up the game and am at level 16. Definitely loving the immersive vibe where I don't have to grind quests and can basically log in and get rewarded for doing multiple types of activities.

Not sure about joining Haven as a bit of a noob, as DeThroned stated. Can anyone comment on the vibe? I'm likely going to be a pretty casual member. Especially because the pace of the game has me taking my time through things.

They're down with casuals. It's something i asked when talking to the guilds i was checking out. They just want people to have fun and are willing to help new folks

How do you even find a guild and apply? This game's UI is so overwhelming.

Play with people and then the hard one: pay attention to general chat (*shudder*)

I played most of the weekend and had a ton of questions about the game. Everyone is very helpful and eager to teach. Nodes/Housing/MassProduction were going right over my head before this weekend but people explained it to me and I feel I have a decent understanding now, I also had no idea that the black spirit tutorialized this stuff if you talked to him and clicked "guide".

Both in game chat and discord everyone has been great so far, I am usually pretty quiet when talking on mic but I fell into a pretty comfortable groove with everyone in the guild.

I have 3 characters 20,18, and 14 and have actually been able to help with guild quests and stuff. No one has cared about my low level, someone even sailed me out to an island to grab a node after a fishing quest we did so I could sell my fish for more then 30% value.

hehe... my step in every mmo is turn off all the chat channels other than friends.

I'm interested in playing this game but I'm worried I won't like it especially after finding its pay to play. Can someone kind of break down the game for me to help me get an understanding of what I would be getting myself into?

Quick question first... what mmo experience do you have? Reason i'm asking is that i'll do my best to compare it to what you know.

Mine too and after it would get so bad i would switch to that and leave it alone, but all the clan invites were on general so i was keeping an eye out for the ones that were done by folks that i didnt already know were assholes and would ask them questions to see if they were a good fit or not. Ended up talking to close to 2 dozen guild leaders since launch that way. Only a few were part of groups that were assholes, but the majority of them wanted people level 35+ or wanted you to be 'hardcore'. Few were racists or bigots. A bunch were around 5 people or so like we were but had no intentions of doing GvG or PvP. Then a couple were primarily PST in their activities.

Tried to message one of the officers, but not sure if they were doing something else or afk progressing. If most folks are east coast, could be tough due to me being on pacific time right now.

Regardless, I just looked into crafting because of my terrible luck in getting black stones to upgrade. I feel like I have so many more things to do that it's becoming a little intimidating. I now need to get more workers, get more houses w/ upgrades, get beer to keep the workers going, and then get the materials to make the stones. Random drops have been so poor compared to when I was leveling. I wonder how far ahead everyone else is, especially when seeing so many announcements for +15 successful upgrades.

Thank you Rave I'll give it a try

Are the melee classes likely to be at a disadvantage in pvp or group pvp as they tend to be in other games?

Welp I started the download at 5 AM and its still downloading for some reason my internet has been slow today. Hopefully it will be finished downloading by tomorrow so I can determine whether I like it or not. Thanks again Rave

I feel this way as well. I'm trying to get through all that there is but there's really a ton. I have one worker making potatoes. I'm not sure where they actually go when he's done making them though I have another worker, apparently he's just hanging out because I can't figure out how to get him to do anything.

Eventually this will all make sense!

Materials go into the warehouse of the town of the worker. That is also where workers draw materials from.

To get workers to do something you need a node that you invested contribution points and a resource on that node or you need a building in town that you have as a crafting building.

To craft from a building you bring up the town map, click the crafting building and then select manage crafting. Should be fairly straightforward from there.

Sounds like you know how to get a worker to gather at a resource you have invested contribution points in but make sure your worker has stamina. Once he is out he needs beer to recover stamina.

As far as being behind I would say if you are just doing PvE and crafting what does it really matter? The gearing will only be an issue if you are doing a lot of PvP / GvG.

It actually does make a difference when fight the high level pve mobs. You can feel the difference just hitting the soft cap of +5/+7. It's a matter of clearing a wave of mobs in 10 seconds instead of 2 minutes.

Yes I know.

If two players are the same level and one has less improved gear, it is going to be harder in comparison but unless you are in a competition with another person the fact that they are at +15 and you being at +5 is irrelevant.

All that matters is your gaming experience not that the other guy is tougher. That is all I am saying.

I'm strictly talking PvE and quality of (game) life. Not against another player. There's no need to rush to get to +15, but the higher you go the easier it is to kill mobs and not have them taken from you by other players. By the time you get to level 30 you'll end up going up against mobs that are primarily farmed by other players. The most damage gets the kill/xp/loot. So in a way you are in a competition.

I guess its just not meant for me to try this game out. 60 percent of the way through the install and the system goes down for maintenance. I still have 5 days left on my guest pass so I will try to the very end to get it downloaded.

This is a mmo that has all the accouterments of other mmos, but the design of their base systems are different. The first noticable is the combat. Action/combo based. The crafting/trading systems have an underlying node system that is required to build up to do more and more. Mass producing for crafting requires the hiring of workers.

The leveling is 70-80% by killing (this is a KR game so grinding is a part of it). You do quests to build up your energy/contribution/skill points. A very small percentage actually give you xp.

Hope you get in to check it out.

I'm liking what I've been hearing about crafting and trading. How bad is the grind is it like the early days of MapleStory levels of grinding or is better than that.

It's subjective... for me the combat is so much fun that i enjoy it. Which i never do and i've played most KR games out there.

Yeah, I am really loving the combat, and really loving every class I've played so far.

I started out just playing my Tamer and Witch, and got both into the mid 20s. Then I decided to get a bit more organized about getting going with a production/trading empire, and so I leveled my Sorceress and Ranger into the mid-teens. Then I needed to add on a bit more gathering capacity, so I brought my Valkyrie to the mid-teens as well.

And the crazy thing is, I like them all (although it is very clear that some classes, like the Ranger, take a lot longer to really get rolling). Each is fun and distinct to play, and I've never once felt like I was "grinding" for experience in combat, just having a good time engaging in some light genocide. I really am having a hard time choosing which character to load up each time I play, since even the classes that fall outside my usually interests (Valkyrie, for example) have so far been a ton of fun.

(The non-combat systems, however, have bordered on feeling a bit abusive of my time investment. The methodical way I've approached them probably isn't doing it any favors, though.)

When the system goes back up some time today I'll give the install another try. The combat does look interesting my only issue with the classes is the gender locking but I know that's something I will get over as I start playing.

2 classes aren't really gender locked they have counter parts to one another, the wizard and witch are exactly the same and the Valkyrie and Warrior are pretty close to each other. With new classes apparently coming down the pipe you will have plenty of selection for male and female.

The biggest problem is really the customization, there is really no cosmetic loot in the game. The best outfits cost about 30$ and even then there isn't a lot of variety. And since each peice gives a set bonus when worn together I don't even like to mix my armours with each other (usually doesn't look good either since it generally clips through other peices), the dye system also isn't great and has a real bad element of randomness.

The sandbox, combat and content are all amazing though. Trading and knowledge system are far deeper then I would have expected and you can get side tracked for hours with this stuff. I haven't even touched the housing system yet. I've never really had an Mmo capture my interest like this since Ultima Online. It's quickly becoming one of my favorite RPGs let alone mmo.

Yeah, wizard and witch are the only classes that are completely identical across gender, although when they get their weapon awakenings that might change. And, worth noting, that weapon awakenings will make warrior and valkyrie more different than they currently are -- warriors get a two handed sword, where valkyries get a lance and shield combination.

The upcoming four classes are more like the valkyrie/warrior pairing, from what can be seen on the Korean servers.

Bladers and plums (basically, the samurai archetype) are maybe a bit closer -- I think they have just one or two skills that are different, at least until weapon awakenings happen, where bladers will get naginata and plums spears. Incidentally, I think the plum class will be called "musa" here -- if you look through the achievements there is one that gives a choice of class specific glasses as a reward, and you can see that one of the options is "musa." Hopefully the Blader will be called something a bit less silly too, like ronin or samurai.

Ninja and kunoichi have three or four skills that differ from each other, although again, presumably their weapon awakenings will further differentiate them. Their weapon awakenings (as well as witch and wizard) have yet to be announced, though, so that remains to be seen.

Actually the male/female names for this is Musa/Maehwa. They do have a handful of difference one of the noticeable are the offhand weapons, but there's some tree's that are unique to each other.
