I stand by my previous statements that being all the way out is the way to go. I got my urologist to do mine along side the sinus surgery I was having anyway.

Those are some pretty deep sinuses AnimeJ!?!?

My thoughts exactly. I've never heard of an ear, nose, and testicle specialist before.

The penis has sinuses. It might have been penile enlargement surgery, is what I'm saying.

Hah! Now no matter what AnimeJ might say it is, I know it's really that.

Arise! (very carefully).

I am booked in for 6 weeks from now. Looks like they do it under general anaesthetic as standard. Hoping to at least parlay a day or two of recovery into quiet time in front of a computer game.

The things I do for a little quiet time. For real.

I am guessing I will be joining you soon after this baby is born.

I'll be joining you just as soon as my wife gives up any hope of my changing my mind about wanting more kids.

I just need to stop being a weenie and go see the urologist about this I have the name of a doctor just need to get going on it.

Mine was done under general anaesthetic. There was really nothing to it. Go in, quick nap, go home sit in recliner and play games. Not a bad day really.

Timely!

I am looking into doing this as well, especially so if my insurance takes care of the majority of the cost.

Most of you have probably read page 1, but just in case: I opted for local anesthesia. The first incision with the weird handheld-can-opener-looking device was rather... painful. Doc administered more drugs as the pretty nurse apologized repeatedly. I learned things about myself that day.

Ice was nice for a couple of days. It was worth it!

I was local as well, and relatively painless, during.

My job involves a fair bit of lifting heavy objects. I can get a switch out for a few days for "light duties", and I know my physician will give me proper medical advise, but anecdotally from those who have had the procedure, how long was your 'sit on your ass and do nothing recovery', and how soon did you feel comfortable lifting stuff.

Also, I wear boxers, will I need to swap over to briefs for the recovery period, or can the boys handle swinging freely post op?

Yeah, just get it done. I have treated anxiety and I got it done with local. It's a fairly trivial procedure, overall. Much easier than what women have to go through.

Truth. My wife was pissed when I got mine done because her coffee (that she had bought at a Starbucks drivethrough just before I had my procedure) was still too hot when I was finished.

About a weekend on the lifting stuff, but the doctor will probably recommend at least a week. Milk it as long as you can.

Spoiler:

Pun intended.

Boxer briefs help, as do bags of frozen peas or water-filled gloves.

Do not skip the 4- and 6-week followups, no matter what.

Maybe rest an orange in the palm as they freeze so they can "cup and comfort"?

I had mine done on a Friday, was back at the desk on Monday but didn't start biking again for a week or two.

Thankfully I live in Fascist northern Europe where immigrants get sterilized for free.

Exactly. That's how my wife made them. Just drape the glove over something round-ish as it freezes.

Nice!

I checked and it looks like my insurance will cover at least 80% of the cost. I will be lining this up shortly.

I went into shock when the doctor used trans-dermal freezing to numb the vas. He hit me 4 times with that machine and each time felt like i was being kicked in the balls.

Shock. HAd me breathing into a paper bag and everything. Went white, thought I was going to pass out.
I should have gotten that valium.
I would do it again. Not having to worry about it was totally worth it.

My brother is a carpet cleaner - very physical labor (lifting a 50lb machine in and out of his van several times a day for starters).

He had it done on a Friday, and was back at work on Monday, albeit slower and more careful than usual.

Good luck to you guys.
Mine went well and just minor discomfort after a day later.

Just get a supporter to wear underneath.

Okay this is tomorrow:
New comfy snug boxer briefs, check.
Gel packs, check.
Child care arranged, check.
Massive unrelated 5 day mental health crisis still ongoing? No. No. Not check. No I did not order this, this is no good.

I am now feeling profoundly unprepared for this. Slightly worried about potential interactions between general anaesthetic and mental state.

I'd advise calling ahead and making them aware of your current situation, just incase.

If it goes anything like mine, you're worry level is about 50,000% higher than required. Enjoy!

OK so I was given the option of doing it under local instead of general so I opted for that. Especially since they said they could offer IV sedatives to help.

That went 10 times better than I could have imagined. My 2 veg look like they've lost a fight with an angry rottweiler right now but I'm sure a good night's sleep and a shower in the morning will sort that out.

They really don't seem to believe in analgesics in this country - they gave me 2 paracetamol before we started and nothing to follow up. Luckily I have a secret stash of co-codamol to raid if it becomes particularly painful. For the moment it's fine.

I had begged my wife to pretend to misunderstand the procedure and ask the doctor if we get to keep the penis in a little jar or something but we never got to deploy that set piece.

Could you at least understand everything the doctor said, or did you make him repeat it in english like I did. Normally I can understand swedish but I wasn't going to be taking any chances during that procedure.

I'm dying laughing at this. Missed opportunity of a lifetime.
