Dying Light

Its ok, losing xp for dying is frustrating though. In the main game its not a big deal. Losing 20000xp survivor in the following because you got stuck on a rock hurts a bit more.

Guys, DLGamer.com has the original for $27. Does it make sense to buy that, see if I like it and then buy this new DLC if I am really into it by the time (very unlikely) I finish the original?

I am just not sure I want to buy the entire enhanced edition for $60. It's like 1500 in Canadian currency.

There's a demo for the main game up on Steam. That way you don't have to buy anything to see if you like it.

Tagging for when I finally get my PS4.

I loved vanilla Dying Light, so I really should jump into the expansion since I got the season pass. Gotta free up some space on the SSD.

Crinkle and I have been playing through "The Following" on PS4.

Overall - Much better than I anticipated.I highly enjoyed the original play through but skipped most of the smaller DLC's. I would certainly recommend it we are currently like 7 hours in and not finished. I believe we are nearing the end but hard to know.

Good -
1. The new "map" is allot different than the original two. It adds new type of look and play style without losing the "fun" of the original
2. Normally I dislike vehicle additions to games like this. The buggies are simply fun. I really find them to add to the game. The upgrades are good and driving is fun
3. Missions/quests are more of the same with some new additions. Overall what I expected but turned out fine

Bad
1. Certainly not the most buggy game I have played. However, far more buggy and less tested terrain then the original. Lots of times you grappling hook and are unable to grab on etc.
2. Swimming was not the strongest part of Dying light. They added a fair amount of swimming in these missions that is simply unneeded.
3. The map is designed to use the buggies. It does that well. However, they do make you traverse a large portion of it back and forth that can just take time with the map layout. It think this could of been solved by like a direct highway from one end or other that is fast/easy to traverse.
4. Few too many bullet sponge bosses.

I started playing this (the original game) on PC a few days ago. I really like the parkour, but am still struggling with the combat. I am having a lot of trouble hitting zombies in their heads. It seems like even when I've aimed my weapon right between their eyes, I pull the trigger and end up thumping them in the chest. And it feels like I run out of stamina way too quickly. Hopefully both of these issues will get better as I learn the game and perhaps as I unlock skills that address this. I completed the first night mission yesterday and kind of hated it--it was effectively tense, but I felt too helpless and panicked. Again, maybe more practice and I'll get a better idea of how to do night missions, but at the moment I'm more inclined to just do everything I can in the day time.

Are there any mods out there to mute out the times when zombies randomly start talking like humans as you're trying to kill them? I know it's pretend and everything, but I do not enjoy smashing a woman's face in while she pleads with me, even if she's really an evil zombie. Creeps me out, but not in a good way.

I will keep at this for a while, although I suspect I will not bother seeing the story all the way to the end. The experience of playing it, so far, reminds me a lot of Far Cry 3, in which I really enjoyed clearing out bases, upgrading items, and exploring, but cared very little about the story stuff.

1. The combat early can be a bit like that. A mixture of when you level up getting higher damage weapons and more skills will certainly help with this. Each time you level up the dmg and weapons available at stores will naturally increase.

2. Mods - I have no idea being i played on PS4

3. Story is "Ok". You will want to progress at least through the point where you get to old down. There is actually 2 different maps in the game the 2nd one though doesn't unlock until about 1/2 - 2/3rds through the story. It is very diverse and different from the slums (The starting area). The following then gives a unique 3rd area.

Overall I would also mention this game is so much better in co-op. I think the game hit number 4 for me last years game of the year. Where if I had played it solo instead of with Crinkle it probably would of barely made the list.

Spoiler is description of the second area

Spoiler:

Allot more city like and very similar to Assassins creed type world

I'm loving this game. I started playing it, for the first time, on Nightmare mode. Wow. Talk about Run Lola Run. You don't stop for sh*t in this game.

This game has some really intense moments - mostly in a good way. When I first started playing I didn't think it was that great. Then I learned how to jump off of zombies heads to stun them. Cool.

I even enjoyed the story in a B movie campy way. I thought the protagonist was great.

Yup. The protagonist feels like a real person. I love how he complains.

FYI Co-op makes this game go from a 7/8 to a 10.

I wish the entire game was The Following. So much more fun, even on Nightmare mode, in The Following.

Bad Blood footage from Gamescom and playtesting last weekend has been coming out, a sample:

Looks good.

Hellraid, the gory medieval first-person slasher which has been "on hold" since 2015 so Techland could focus on the Dying Light franchise is now finally seeing the light of day as a DLC for Dying Light this summer.

I'm itching to get back into this once I get a few games cleared out.

Neat! I had no idea about this at all.

I kind of presume this is Techland going "We've had these gothic medieval assets for years, let's just dump them out while Dying Light 2 is delayed" but I guess I'm glad that Hellraid is finally seeing the light of day in some form.

I had Hellraid on my Steam wishlist but I can't look to see for how long because the store page for it is now gone.

They can really do no wrong in my eyes at this point. We've had so much fun in co-op it's silly.

Strange source so take it for what it's worth but these translated excerpts of an article on Dying Light 2 make it sound like a project in turmoil, might explain why they suddenly announced Hellraid assets as a DL1 DLC

https://twitter.com/LotteMakesStuff/...

The source is supposedly legit. Cheap translations of the article are to be avoided though.

Tweet has been deleted. Anyone have a screenshot of what it said?

Polish article (ie. the legit source, but has to be put through Google translate): https://polskigamedev.pl/dying-light...

Here's a good summation: https://www.resetera.com/threads/rum...

Basically Techland's owner and top designer are jerks and folks don't like working for them. They've made a mess of Dying Light 2.

Really sounds quite a bit like what we saw with Starbreeze. Folks have success, folks aren't entirely capable of running a bigger studio, folks screw the pooch.

At least one Techland staffer on twitter is saying the translation is "totally inaccurate" for what that's worth.

Hope it's not true for the sake of the employee's first and then this series.

Yeah, the one floating around Twitter was sh*t.

What I linked to is less sh*t.

Here's another translation from someone at Era: https://www.resetera.com/threads/rum...

God I hope that's not true, Dying Light is so amazing and I'm DYING for its sequel.

Me too. Is my #2(behind Cyberpunk) most anticipated game of the year.

I don't think this game is coming out this year. Techland has always been inconsistent and this is their most ambitious project. Very curious to see how much of Avellone's work and influence will survive.
