There are plenty of handicap trap loads that are low power by design. I know Remington makes a ton of them. Kent does too.

If he got beat up by those loads I wonder if it is technique and not recoil issues. A bad hold will knock the crap out of you. I have that happen in the field when I hurry to get on a bird.

Maybe it's the kind of gun. What kind of Winchester?

Still, I'll back up the technique theory. Not that I've ever shot trap, but I do know when I first started out on shotguns I didn't know what I was doing and wasn't shouldering properly. Got beat up pretty bad at first myself.

While acquired illegally and probably still very dangerous, a lot of those weapons appear to be historical collector's pieces.

Also, I had to laugh at this picture and the caption:

Pictured is some of the 200,000 rounds of ammunition which was found at James Arnold's home

Those are just casings.

There was not one unfired round in any of their pictures. A gun without bullets is just a poorly made club.

Not... necessarily.

That's a really bad club. A passable spear though.

Perfect opportunity for a pic of that hilarious CZ handgun bayonet but I'm too lazy to dig any up.

If you squint, you can make out a handful of loaded rimmed cartridges in this pic:

You just have to look past all the empty casings, unloaded projectiles, musket balls, and Minie balls that are soooo old they've oxidized.

I don't know that this is what you're talking about, but it's pretty ridiculous in its own right.

With a one-shot, you're going to want that knife backup!

IIRC that damn thing sold out when it was introduced as well.

My handgun has an underbarrel rail on it. Know what I have mounted on it?

Nothing!

My pistol is too old; it was made before the utility rail craze hit.

If that's the case, you'd best just throw your pistol in the trash.

Sweet Jesus, that dude has some really rare stuff that worth something too. In that first pic at the top of the article alone I see a:

L86A1 LSW
Colt SP1
FAL
Thompson
vz.26

I see in other photos a Calico, a few 1911s, Luger P08, Walther P38, a Sten, Beretta 1934 and 92, a LAW, an AKM or RPD of some type, SA80, M3 Grease gun, Cetme, STG-44, S&W Highway Patrolman, FN M1900, Colt Detective, Taurus junk, a Bren, Sterling, etc.

Oh and here's my latest.

Can't I just upgrade it to an i7?

Makes you wonder how much crane operators make in the UK.

Heavy equipment operators are compensated fairly well regardless of where you are TBH.

Once every four or five weeks I go shooting sporting clays with my father-in-law and my wife's uncle. (Uncle-in-law?) It's a great, relaxing morning. We go out for breakfast, tromp around the woods, and blow up some clays.

I haven't gotten out much lately with two babies, and in the meanwhile they joined a league at the public gun club. Now they shoot Five Stand rather than sporting clays and convinced me to come along this morning.

I haven't shot in a while and we had four guys at a five stand.

A) I only marginally understood what the heck was going on
B) I barely had time to load two shells and rack before it was my turn again
C) I have a pump 870 and was having trouble with the true pair

Instead of a casual 40-minute walk to shoot 50 birds we shot 50 in less than 10 minutes. Yeesh. It was fun and intense but I dunno... I was so rushed I wasn't getting my gun seated as well and now it hurts like a sumFemale Doggo (yes, I'm a weenie). I might go again now that I know what's going on, but it was intimidating. I'll definitely slow down a little bit but at the time I just felt really rushed.

The problem is that you got a BTX form factor case.

I nearly convinced my betrothed to get me an A5 as dowry.

Then she looked up the price.

I think she is going to print me a picture of one instead.

Well poop. That's what I deserve for buying Canadian.

New permit holder here, looking for carry advice. I know I'm likely to get a wide range, so here are some considerations:

1) I'm a fairly big guy, 6'2" over 200lbs, so size is only a moderate consideration
2) I already plan on getting a Walther PPK for both light-carry circumstances and my Bond fascination.
3) I am being given an unknown 9mm from a friend, so maybe I should stick with the same ammo?
4) I'm kinda cheap, and can't see myself paying $750 or more when there seem to be good options under $500.
5) I think ideally I'd prefer something in the compact, single-stack variety, with a 4" barrel, and made in the USA, but not required.
6) Am I crazy for wanting one of those modular guns that you can swap the barrels out? Doesn't it make sense to shoot .22 at the range but carry something more effective? This is by far the least important consideration, but...

I've done some Googling, but tastes are so varied it is hard to get a short list.

Any suggestions along those lines?

Thanks!

Edwin is the resident expert but never know when he is going to pop up.

Ok, hang on here.

With your size you can carry more than you think and in CT you have more valid clothing options. In TX you have to think about how often you'll wear shorts.

The PPK is a fine gun but not very modern. They make lots of other 380's that are snag free and better for concealed carry. Might I suggest checking out the Ruger LCP? Walthers are very expensive for what they are. If you really like the style, a Bersa Thunder is a cheaper option, shoots just as well, but the controls are a little more modern. I personally love the Thunder myself. Look for the .380 model. There is a different pistol made by Bersa also called the Thunder but it looks nothing like the PPK and comes in .45 I believe.

A good small subcompact is the S&W Shield, which can be had in 9mm. I really like the Shield. It's accurate for a subcompact, nice trigger, feels great for someone with big paws, and can generally be had for less than $400. It is one of the VERY few subcompacts that I find to be a good range toy.

I think what you'll find on .22's is that conversion barrels generally cost the same or more as just buying another gun. Again, the S&W M&P22 Compact is similar enough to the Shield can be found for under $400 if you shop around.

With the right holster and wardrobe choices though, you could easily carry full size pistols and your budget actually allows for a lot of options. $500 will get you most any polymer frame striker-fired pistol. Just remember that the Glock 19 is the Toyota Corolla of the gun world. It's boring but extremely functional.

Also, while I personally use a .45, don't let anyone crap on the 9mm. There is nothing wrong with it at all and I am seriously considering switching soon.

Just some general advice. If you read some of the stories out there about negligent discharges by concealed carriers there is definitely a theme.

Always remember the 4 rules of gun safety.
Always use a holster even if it is pocket carry (you can find pocket holsters for any subcompact)
Do not ever show off your gun in public even when it's legal. Save that for home or the range.

Thanks, Java - great advice! I did come across a lot of good words about the Bersa Thunder so I will definitely check that out. Maybe I will put the Walther on my "collection" list instead of my "carry" list. I would prefer a .45 but perhaps the 9mm I am being given will be sufficient for my main carry piece. Otherwise, I did recently see a sweet Ruger SR45 for sale, but didn't buy it since I wasn't sure I could carry it. Sounds like I might have to revisit that one...

Thanks again!

Go .50 AE or go home.

Too late, already bought one! Anyone know where I can get an ankle holster for it?
