Vermintide 1 + 2

Hah, okay so what it sounds like is that while GW is reworking the tabletop games (the Specialty Games were for sure discontinued last year), video game publishers are snagging up the licenses. Now I understand--I've been out of the loop a little bit on the video game side of Games Workshop.

As I understand it games workshop has also stated that they would prefer to have multiple licensed video games each focusing on only part of the overall setting.

Signing up for the newsletter for now. You know, Greek financial crisis and all that. But maybe at Christmas...this looks pretty fun.

Posted in the Steam group, up for playing tonight (6pm-1am GMT sometime) so let me know if anyone's around. Not played it yet, will probably get a game or two in with pubbys if no-one's available.

edit: Steam name is DarkCimeries btw

Been playing a bunch of this, it's actually getting played as much as Fallout 4 at the moment. I found that it was really important to run at a high frame rate in this game, so I dropped settings down to medium with high Textures and blood decals at 720p and now it runs smoothly as silk. That framerate is vital for providing the feel of the game - that immensely satisfying feedback when you Chop a skagen (or 3) in half. If the swipe and the dismemberment aren't perfectly in sync then the entire experience is compromised. Its the same for left 4 dead, if you ever get a game with a high ping and you shoot then half a second later the zombie falls down it just feels wrong. Games like this live and die on their moment to moment combat and vermintides is great.

The different characters play pretty damn differently. I think my favourite weapon I'd the dual pistols with the witch hunter.

So yeah, this game rocks, just wish everyone wasn't always playing the prologue Misson to farm easy tomes.

Just started playing this tonight, I did a quick, easy mission with my brother. I played as the Empire Soldier, he went as the Witch Hunter. I fell in love with the game almost straight away. Nails the left4dead feel and it controls very well too. The Empire Soldier is very melee focussed, I gibbed most skaven with one swing of my two-hander, but we had an epic showdown with a rat ogre too. That was cool. And at the end of the mission I got loot! The game was already pushing all my buttons, then it went and found another one.

I found it pretty hard, and that's only on easy mode. Not sure if that's just because I suck. I'm up for joining some parties - I'm usually a 9-10pm GMT kind of guy.

It is quite challenging when playing solo, even on easy.
I did make it passed the first mission solo as the elf. But I think they have improved the bots you play with slightly. (well they heal you and res you better)

Yeah my brother and I tried a normal mission tonight but quickly knocked it back down to easy. Perhaps we need better loot first? We had a blast anyway, but then came across an annoying bug at the end of the Wizards Tower mission where my brother got stuck in the scenery and had to leave the party so that I could complete it. Overall though it's a great atmosphere, and I can see this devouring plenty of my time this winter.

Better loot makes the game easier. But what you really need is knowledge of the map and good teammates that know what they're doing. And never split up! If you really have to split up, then at least move in pairs.

So, I've been holding off on this game, because I'm not sure it'll have the staying power l4d2 does. (Still playing it weekly!)

For those of you who have been at it a month or two, is it still holding up?

Yes, but I've only been playing it one night a week with friends, so take that as you will. It definitely won't have the staying power L4D did because the player base is much smaller. If you have some friends that are playing it though, you're good to go because I think it's a really atmospheric, fun co-op game. Plus, it's got skaven in it. What more do you need?

I did like... two missions, then Fallout 4 happened. I really want to get back to this, but I'm going to have to let Fallout run it's course first.

I'm strongly considering picking this up while it's a few bucks off on the Stream Sale.
Any Goodjers still playing? Anyone know how the general community for the game is overall?
The game seems fairly similar to LFD2 which I love but don't do the pubbie thing there.

It was a pretty fun game but it didn't have the same legs as Left for Dead. But if someone's clamoring for some co-op, post here with a date/time and I'll try and hop on.

Its a strong game. One round turns into 3-4 every time for me. They have improved balance a ton because a month ago normal missions were extremely hard. Now you can almost always complete normals successfuly. Great game - definately grab it if you are into the coop game thing.

I believe a new mission was added within the last few weeks?
If so, anyone play?

Chad

Anyone playing please feel free to add me to your Steam friends list. It seems like most pub games don't have much voice coms going on which is too bad.

I'm enjoying the game quite a bit but still coming up to speed. Even so I often find that I do pretty well on the leader boards after a match (thanks to my time in LFD2).

So far, I have watch a few gameplay footage, even twitch, and don't understand why that game is so demanding for the video parts.

Will watching some stream, the streamer said that the video part of the game is not well optimized. Could it be why it is so demanding ?

The friend I play with got a Nvidia GT520, which is said it's not enough...

I have a new card now, but when I first got the game I was playing it on a Radeon 7850, which was very mid range, maybe even low nowadays. Ran like butter with most settings on medium, so I'm certainly not aware of any performance issues. Your friends card is above the minimum spec for the game, though not by much. Still, he should be able to play on low settings.

Ok, I got suckered by the last day of the 20% sale. Now I just need to figure out when I have time to play this.

Been playing as Bright Wizard, but struggling even on Normal with pugs that don't clear swarms and run ahead.

Looks like the player base is relatively small, and would love to see you guys there.

I could be talked into it. I picked it up on the holiday sale and played a handful of matches with varying degrees of success and of getting decent pubbies. I like that dwarf fellow and rolled a pretty sweet gun for him, along with a nice upgrade on the forge.
Friend me up if I'm not on your list and hopefully we can do a little pest control soon.

I changed my steam name to Emmes years ago, but I don't think I can change it on gwj forums.

Happy to join you for a game, but I'm not sure how the servers work with you being in the US and me being in Europe. Assuming you're on the east coast, I'd usually be online about 3 or 4pm your time. I haven't played in a couple of months, but I was enjoying the game. I just played multiplayer with my brother, but Diablo has cannibalised that time slot in recent weeks.

Could be worse.

Ouch.

LOVED the couple of maps tonight. I'm so glad that at least a couple of GWJers are active.

btw, we've been playing a round or two of this sometimes after the usual friday left 4 dead 2 game. This is a pretty terrible time for east coast (roughly 3am) and we'd love to establish a regular weekly game time. Any opinions?

Feel free to send me invites playing with goodjers could definitely get me back into this game.

New patch released today that includes 3 new levels, a new weapon for the elf and witch hunter as well as torches, spike traps and more. Looks like fun!

Good to see they're still supporting it despite the relatively small player base. I keep meaning to have another go at it, but with Overwatch on the scene now I'm imagining most of my multiplayer time will go there. FWIW I preferred playing with the Empire soldier using a two-hander. Very satisfying to take out 5 or 6 rats with one sweep.
