What class is everyone going to play? I'm thinking of starting with a Sorceress, and hope to have enough playtime in the CBT2 to try out a few more classes. How many levels does it take to get a good feel for a class?
I take it there is no support/healing class? I can't find any good info about all the classes so far, anyone know a good resource?
The YouTuber who makes them is a bit annoying, but the videos Ranalin included in the first post give decent overviews:

The game seems to follow the Guild Wars 2 model of every player being responsible for their own health through self heals, blocking, dodging, etc, BUT there are classes that have a bit more support/group healing utility (and tankiness, for that matter). Witch/Wizard seem to be the main class that steps things up in that regard, if I recall correctly, but the Valkyrie might have a group heal too? I can't quite recall.
I've also found this website useful:

although it does have horrible web browser compatibility -- best to stick to desktop Chrome when viewing it.

I really can't stand single corpse looting, so should I try and convince the wife I need to upgrade to the $50 dollar option, or do you think I can just power through and wait and buy a pet when the shop opens.
Also, one other thing that I'm unclear about. Are there in game avenues for earning outfits/pets and other cosmetics, even if it is just a currency exchange method a la, GW2, or are said cosmetics only available via a credit card?
If you're truly annoyed by single corpse looting it will be a huge deal. There's places where you're fighting such large groups of mobs and you'll have to make the decision of looting everything or healing. Personally i know i can hit 20+ the first day i play and by the second day will be glad for the pets in a big way. I guess just depends if you think you'll reach the point where the density of mobs will be a factor. I never did buy one when playing on the RU server.
I'm not sure about other avenues. On the RU,JP,KR versions people will put the cash shop items on the AH, but they've said for the NA version they weren't going to allow that.
Save your money, Cash Shop will now be available at launch.

Really good starter/launch guide.
Their site has been going in and out due to a bunch of traffic from Reddit, so here's the archived page if it doesn't boot up for ya.

Yay, plus it looks like we get to test the cash shop for free!

Cha-ching! Thanks!
Are the headstart differences likely to be a game breaker here? 24 vs 48 vs 96 hours?
So for CBT2 is their going to be a GWJ guild or some larger guild that we can join to make friends ahead of time? I can tell that being in the right guild is really important so I won't be lazy like I am with every other MMORPG.
I completely forgot about this. I need to get the game downloaded. I'll be traveling next two weeks so I'll see how it plays on the laptop I knew this was going to happen, every time I get into a new MMO I have deployed or gone on extended travel.
Looks like servers are opening early.
Anyone have a server preference?
I'm going to pick Calpheon. It's not the first one on the list so shouldnt be quite as full
Edit: Going to spend time with the Tamer this round and since it's a female toon my name will be Nilanar Atyr.
Orwen or Edan?
I logged in this morning to see how well it ran and fiddle with the settings (it seems to be locked at 30fps max, btw?)... and don't remember which channel I created my char in. There doesn't seem to be any indication on which channel you created characters on... unless I missing something.
The server says (1/0), but if you don't remember what channel you created it on then you have to hit each one until you find your character.

What is your family name? Look's like you need to know that to add to your friends list.
Mine is Badferret, playing on the toon Teisei right now.
Gotcha, well, I'm afk fishing for the night, will try that tomorrow.
Very much in the button mashing phase right now. I'm guessing with the 10 skill slots, with a mmo mouse, the challenge will be figuring which skills to use the mouse for and which skills to use the direction combo system for, and of course proper rotation.
Yeah the Logitech G series keyboard is nice for macros to handle rotations.
Whats the curse info Ran - Im playing a bit today?
The game also has really nice built in controller support. I know most heavy MMO players might balk at the very thought of trying such a thing, but given the heavy movement/action focus of the combat you might consider giving it a whirl.
Oh yeah? I never saw that, but do enjoy a controller for Blade and Soul so I'm on board.
Helps with the carpal tunnel, ya know?

Definitely. Not that I'm 100% against keyboard and mouse if a game's interface really calls for it, but the worst my RSI symptoms ever were was when I had a deep and abiding WoW habit.
These days I'll often take a slightly substandard controller implementation (and sometimes improve it with AutoHotKey or AntiMicro or GlovePie) when available for that reason.
This one really is pretty good in terms of configurability (although the tutorials will still give you keyboard prompts). You have full control over the mapping of every button (except maybe the start key, which might be hard bound to the same function as the escape key on the keyboard), and you can define two separate shift keys, and map them in combination with every other button on the controller either alone or together. The default mapping is pretty decent as well, although since I have an Xbox Elite controller I switched around some of the face and trigger buttons to fit how I like to use the extra paddles on the controller.
(EDIT: You do have to scroll down pretty far in the "Game" tab of the settings menu to find the checkbox to enable controller support, though.)
Would imagine that no one is using the AH to buy during a beta.
I definitely need to find a good guide to this - there is so much going on between the classes (combat), crafting, etc...
I read the guide that garion posted earlier which isnt bad. Im not sure this is a game, maybe more of a part time job.
