American Truck Simulator catch-all

I'm sure Fresno is lovely.

Oh, it's not.

The central coast is lovely. Pismo, Monterey, Santa Cruz, Santa Barbara.

Fresno is... well, it's not terrible, but it's second-rate California. Still, second-rate California is better than first-rate flyover states if you ask me.

An entire childhood (and early adulthood up through college) in the Central Valley has left me with a... complicated relationship with Fresno.

I have In-laws from the Fresno area. It's not bad to live in. It's certainly not tourist country, though.

But then again, I would not choose to live in most of California. Too much of a lifestyle downgrade due to cost, unfortunately.

As a person of a certain age, can I just say that I'm hoping to try and do

Awesome album!!

I agree with this. We only came back to California to live on the coast. We would move back to Austin again before going back to Fresno.

But yeah, we're looking at houses now in Pismo, and OMG the McMansion we could buy in Austin for the same prices! There's no way I would pay anything close to that to live in the Central Valley.

I hope the opening sequence features this song:

Launch Trailer.

Oh heck yeah.

Wonder if I need to upgrade my PC

Heh, I always wonder that for big releases like this.

My setup always seems to ride the line of med to high settings where I have to make agonizing choices between visuals & performance.

What I really want to do this year is hold out for Nvidia's Pascal GPU and just do a full refresh on a pre-build tower. Then I'd combine that with Valve's Steam Link to stream direct to my laptop, my preferred gaming environment right now (rocking a year-old Lenovo Y500 right now). That way I'd keep the mobility, but it wouldn't be tied to age-dated laptop hardware.

That's my dream, anyway. Not sure if I'd need to mortgage my house in Q4 2016 to make it happen.

I've seriously been hating life on my old Radeon 7870, which has always been kind of flaky for me. I'm thinking it's time to get back on the NVidia train, and a new game is always a good excuse for an upgrade

I think the rest of this system is still A-OK. I suspect that my i5-3570K is still up to the task.

I'm waiting for the next crop of graphics silicon to drop later this year before upgrading. Kind of hard to be patient though.

Same CPU I have. It's never been the bottleneck up to this point, developer requirements notwithstanding..

First Steam purchase of the year (not counting my XCOM 2 pre-order from GMG).

It's out!

And it's only $20!?

Dang it, I don't have the budget to keep up with this year!

Yep. I made the entire month of January with no purchases. Only made it to February 2nd.

Going to leave my Elite: Dangerous ship landed tonight and drive around California for a while.

Honk! Honk!

My sentiment exactly. Going to see how long I can deny southern california valuable supplies while enriching the Bay Area!

You BASTARD!

Let's see how long LA and the Bay can look down on Fresno once we stop feeding them!

A noble experiment.

I have a soft spot for San Diego, though. Might be willing to cut them some slack.

I'm an East-coaster who spends virtually all my vacation time on the West coast, where both families mostly reside. I can't wait to cruise familiar locals like SD, SF, Sac/Tahoe, etc.

We can trade you for water. LA has nothing to offer. Besides we can grow plenty of food between the Salinas/Watsonville area and up north through Brentwood and Yolo county (yes for those of you not in California.. that's been a county long before it became the battlecry of douchedom). Not to mention Napa, Sonoma and Mendocino county.

Also.. humboldt county.. that's good for.. something important no?

Started in San Fran, despite by birthplace of San Diego.

It's fun. The world feels much more alive then ETS2's ever did, but my one complaint is Vegas - you can't drive down the strip. You can cross it, but you can't cruise it. Looks like they have most of the hotels there, though, except they're all named differently (for obvious reasons.)

Oh, and North Cali feels kind of sparse...

You think Salinas is on the Bay's side? Salinas sides with Fresno!

#warformontereycounty

That's because it is kind of sparse.

Seriously, any further north than Sacramento and there's diddly squat. Even that far and there's not a whole lot of anything.

Still in the graphics/controls tweaking phase, but I'm loving it so far.

Looks and runs great. Haven't even touched the radio stations yet, which in reality CA is famous for being completely kick-ass.

Speaking of controls, here's my standby for the 360 pad from the ETS2 thread.

L/R triggers: break/gas
L/R shoulder: shift down/up
L stick L/R: steer
L stick Up/Down: cruise control/start engine
L stick (press): horn
R stick: free look
R stick (press): change camera
D-pad L/R: turn signals
D-Pad down/up: headlights/high beams
A button: accept/enter
B button: cycle GPS views
X button: interior view (center camera)
Y button: light horn
Select: wiper blades
Start: F1: Pause

EDIT:

80s Metal you say? Why yes, I'll 'favorite' you with a star, Netrock101. (And likely never touch the dial again!)

Oh yeah, well here's MY settings!

A (button 0): Activate (Enter) & Cruise Control (you can have one button do both by editing controls.sii in your profile directory)
B (button 1): High Beam Headlights
X (button 2): Light Modes
Y (button 3): Wipers
LB (button 4): Shift Down
RB (button 5): Shift Up
Back (button 6): Route Advisor Map (F5)
Start (button 7): Menu
LS (joy X axis): Steering
(I don't use LS Y axis because it's too easy for me to accidentally go up and down while steering)
LS click (button 8): Light Horn
RS (joy X/Y Rotation): Look
RS (button 9): Interior Camera (reset camera)
D-pad up (hat switch up): World Map
D-pad down (hat switch down): Next Camera
D-pad L/R (hat switch L/R): Turn Indicators
RT (joy Z axis, inverted & centered): Acceleration
LT (joy Z axis, centered): Wheel brake
