My App Store review:

CRASHLANDS - My Favorite Mobile Game BY FAR ★★★★★

Crashlands has it all: beautifully whimsical art design, hilarious dialogue, fun moment-to-moment gameplay, a ridiculous amount of content for the price... Just buy it! NOW! Stop reading these reviews and BUY CRASHLANDS! The only conceivable reason you might not absolutely love it is if you are dead inside, and you hate fun. You're not dead inside, are you?

Oh, and also? Cross-platform saves. Yeah.

Available for $15 on Steam for PC & Mac, or $5 on App Store for iOS and Google Play for Android

And if I might get seroius for a moment, the story of the development of Crashlands is compelling:
"The Last Game I Make Before I Die" - The Story of 'Crashlands', Cancer, and Leaving a Legacy

Great game, I recommend it without hesitation, and you're a big sillyhead if you purchase games for your iPad and don't buy this one.

With that out of the way, I do wish that enemies able to 1-shot you were much more rare, and that natural HP regen out of combat or lifesteal were always active. Gets a little old having to always top up your health with potions in order to be able to tank even one hit from middling opponents. Death penalty is not onerous at all, just several seconds spent walking back to your corpse, but it takes some of the fun from fighting the larger foes when a single misstep will cost you the last minute and a half you spent beating on it.

I've put a few hours in and feel I haven't gotten that far yet. But did built a house sorta, a lil backyard to grow stuff and have a pet that I milked....
This game is weird and I love it.

The battles can be a bit like Mr Crinkle points out. But it's ok with me. Indeed, load up on potions, maneuver around the enemy while hacking and slashing it.

Love that I can play it on my iPad and on Steam. Hopefully soon a sensible and fully supported Steam Controller implementation Would be nice.

Tagging - played through the intro and creating my first floor tiles and somehow lost half an hour to it this morning.

I'm somewhere between 5-10 hours in and have reached the second major area.

I've found (the hard way!) that if it takes more than a minute to fight a particular enemy and/or the enemy is 1-shotting me, that's usually a sign that the game is saying "come back and fight this guy later."

That said, I love this game! My first, and very unexpected, GOTY candidate of 2016. I can already say that this is my favorite "action" game that I've ever played on iPad -- anything else that would compete for the title of favorite iPad game would be a board game or strategy game.

Appspy review - they liked it.

How are the controls on iOS? Does the game support the iOS gamepads?

No gamepads yet, controls are a pretty standard fare: 1 tap in empty space to move, tap on something for contextual action (enemy initiates an attack, resource initiates gathering).

And for anyone concerned about playing it on PC, the controls work great. It's definitely got a mobile-style UI but it has full keybindings and keyboard support.

iOS controls are great; buttery smooth and intuitive. The only thing I'd change is being able to drag the map around, rather than having to use the directional arrows on the map screen.

So continuing from the iOS games thread, what pet are y'all using? I'm a big fan of Lumpy the Glutterfly. Dude puts out serious damage (I think; I'm normally too busy running around to look at numbers ). Plus he looks cool.

Oh, and my BscotchID is ChumpyGWJ

Loving this game; I am so addicted to it. It does crash on me when I go to another app then back to it though.

Not sure if there's a benefit to adding friends but my username is TempestBlayze. Friend me up.

ZUGZUG the Zug (Lightning Turtle). So much damage.

Got started on this on the way to work this morning. What a perfect morning commute game. Unfortunately, the app seems to crash if I turn my screen off, which I'll do when getting on or off the bus. Hopefully they fix that soon.

Looks like there are "Perks" for having friends, and also looks like you can give gifts to each other.

I'm J.C. in the game as well. Added you Tempest.

Edit: if I've got one gripe, it's this: the few times you have to use a keyboard, it's not the system keyboard. I'm sure it's an intentional choice for who knows what reason, but it's annoying since it changes button layout depending on which screen you are typing on.

Tried this out yesterday, it seems alright so far. I wish there was a little more hints/description on some of the UI stuff as it can be a bit opaque. Am I supposed to build all of my workshops next to my original crash site? That is what I did so I hope so. What am I supposed to do with the tombstones from my deaths?

I am LeapingGnome if you're looking for friends.

I've got about half and hour in and I like it more than I was expecting to, which seems to be this game's thing.

I'm debating on whether to register an account with BSS or not as I get really reluctant to link my personal info for any single game.

I think I'll just play vanilla for a bit and see if I'm inspired down the road.

They've laid out the first few patches. I can't find the link now. Basically its:
1. Bugfixes, submitted by the end of the week, should be released next week
2. Quality of Life fixes. Map interface updates, which hopefully includes tap/drag. No timeline that I remember
3. Campaign editor, which is mentioned in the trailer. I think its supposed to be available on all platforms including the ability to download and play peoples campaigns on all platforms. Also no timeline for that.

For pet, I switched from my upgraded Whompus who tended to miss frequently to an upgraded... black toad guy who launches mortar. He seems pretty awesome. Some enemies I just run circles around and wait for the toad to kill em.

You have to place them on a floor tile you build - whether that's by your crash site or not is up to you.

Added those of you above. I'm antichulius in game.

So far, I'm loving this. The crossplay is flawless-- started on Steam and then took it on the road. I miss the hotkeys, and have died a few times when I tried to select my wrench and either it didn't take or moved me the wrong direction. But that's just inherant with a touch-action game. At least death isn't a big deal and I'm getting a nice graveyard all made up.

So far, I'm still running with my leveled up Wompit. Haven't found any other eggs yet, so that's my only option. So far, I'm not a fan of fighting the squid-guys if they're more than infants.

And, hey, I just saw if you let the game just sit too long (iOS) the character will start twirling their weapon and jumping up and down before the game automatically pauses. Kind of a cool feature so you don't die just from setting it down.

Don't buy the app on the Amazon.com appstore. Some asshole pirated it and is selling it on there.

LeapingGnome wrote:

Yep, me too! Another option though is if you find a patch of rare materals spawns somewhere that are always there (e.g. they respawn every 2 hours), you could build your base right near those, and then every time you return to base, you could re-grab those rare materials too.

Well that stinks. I have a ton of Amazon credit and wanted to use some to purchase the game. Hopefully they get this resolved soon.

I just bought this on Google Play. I saw it on Steam and was tempted but you guys convinced me. I will probably buy it on Steam later so I can play it all the time whenever.

I just started but feel free to add me! My BscotchID is tinywolfteeth.

Just played for less than a half hour.

Hooo boy, this is good.

FWIW it's just an email and the only point of an account is to sync your cloud saves (as far as I know).

And their forums. That's it. I looked at the Perks and it looks like doing certain actions in certain games also gets you bonus stuff in other games of theirs.

The app on amazon has been taken care of. So that's good news

Anyone play this on a phone, or just tablets? was wondering how it would be to play on my 5.2" LG G2.

I was hoping there'd be a thread for this game! I picked it up over the weekend and can't put it down. I bought it on Android first, and bought the Steam version yesterday. This is probably my favorite "on the go" game ever. Their cloud save game sync works flawlessly so far too; I love that I can play on my desktop and pick up right where I left off on my tablet/phone.

THIS is the type of game I want to see on the play store more often. I have no problem paying $5-10 on mobile for a quality game with zero IAPs. I'm so sick of the freemium model.

I mostly play on my tablet, but I have an older S3 phone and it works fine on there.

I've been playing on my phone (iPhone 5s), and it's been working fine. I die a lot, but I'd do that in *any* action RPG; it's nothing I'd blame on the interface.
