Super Mario Makers Catch-All

A couple of new ones for you guys:

It's All Up↑ To Mario - A course in which Mario must surmount too-tall-to-jump obstacles in a variety of ways.

Mario Courses In The Cloud - A tricky but short obstacle course involving a ride in... well, you can probably guess!

People still playing this? I'm just getting into it.

House of Doors - A fairly traditional ghost house layout with multiple, multiple ways to go through it, plus a couple of surprises for people who explore and experiment a bit.

Goomba Castle - Now we know where Bowser keeps his back up reserves of Goombas.

I'm going to add a bunch of everyone's courses and try them out today.

Warriorpoet897, bookmarked those, looking forward to trying them!

I've cranked out a few more levels over the past few days:

Mario and Bowser Jr. Team Up - Wanted to call it "Mario and Bowser Jr.'s Co-op Adventure" but there wasn't quite enough room! A (unfortunately necessary) trick to this one is that if Bowser Jr. starts refusing to follow Mario, then Mario needs to move to Jr.'s left and then back to his right to "reset" him.

Hint: Let Yoshi Go For A Ride! - My first stab at a one-screen puzzle level.

Yoshi Saves the Day! - Bowser brings the heat, and Yoshi serves it right back.

Mario Spaces Out A traditional-style level with an outer space theme.

Hey everyone. It's been awhile since I've been on here. Haven't really had time to create many levels as of late but hope that will change. Maybe I should make smaller levels

Anyway, I have two new levels.

1) Skulls on Ice - An ice cave level where you have to ride some skull platforms. They're are 5 1-ups to find along the way.

2) Big Air Ship - An air ship level with a boss fight. Wanted to try to do a boss fight w/o the standard Bowser stuff:

Geitnerbahn, thanks for the feedback on my Team Up course regarding the place where Jr. could get stuck! (I think it was you, anyway?)

I've revised the course to fix that location and to overall "flow" a lot better, including hopefully minimizing the times when Jr. decides to stop following Mario and you have to run back to his left to "reset" him:

Mario and Bowser Jr.: Co-op Team

I've been juggling Xenoblade X and Mario Maker; it's so rare for me to be switching between disc-based games that I've become an entitled, lazy slob and will often play whichever one is in my Wii U rather than swap discs.

I'm doing the same exact thing. I pretty much only play disc based games, but I'm usually not so deeply into two at once.

Same here in many ways... the digital age has spoiled me!

Thankfully, I have Xeno in digital format and Mario Maker physically in the WiiU's tray, making the lazy entitled slob in me quite pleased.

Okay, if you only play two of my levels, please try these out. I spent about eight hours on one of them (!).

Leave No Goomba Behind! - I'm pretty proud of this one. Make sure you bring the Goomba to the end!

Tower of Blades - My magnum opus so far (in terms of time spent). A multi level themed tower with twists, turns and a slightly different take on the boss battle.

Warriorpoet897, bookmarked those to play next time I have a chance. I'll definitely let you know what I think (via Miiverse comment and/or here)!

So, here's some, um, interesting news about what happens to "unpopular" levels:

Patrick Klepek wrote:

When Mario Maker launched, Nintendo warned players it could remove stages from the game for a variety of reasons, including ones that were merely unpopular. Nintendo has made good on that threat, but folks in the Mario Maker community are upset because it’s not really clear what “unpopular” means.

...

The problem? Sometimes, creators are told their levels are banned. If a level has been removed by the server, it can’t be re-submitted to the Mario Maker pool.

What really bothers me about the possibility of a level getting banned merely due to lack of popularity is that there is no other way to share a level with a friend online.

I just checked my Maker page, and at least for now, my stages are all still online.

Eww. I didn't know about that. I'd been assuming that any levels I uploaded would be there permanently (until Nintendo takes the servers down at some point).

Another weird thing I ran into the other day is when I tried to name a course (just in my offline Coursebot) "Yoshi to the Rescue" and the game said nope, there's offensive language in that title!

Playing around with it, I eventually found that any title starting with "Yoshi to" was considered offensive. No idea why!

Because it includes "shi t".

Haha, so it does! Nice catch, Clocky!

Well, there goes my idea for a theme level about Dick van Dyke taking a trip to Pen Island.

I think I'm caught up again on following Goodjer's making levels! Here's a newish one I enjoyed making, P-Funk

Thanks WolverineJon for playing already and commenting. STaaaaaaaaaaAAAARSsssss

This is one of the craziest (challenge and creativity) levels I've ever seen someone complete in MM. Check it out.

I can only imagine the amount of time put into Mario games to clear a level like that. I haven't tried Mario Maker yet, although i'm getting close to purchasing it, but some of the levels I've seen are completely insane. I don't know if they would be fun to play or just pure hell to play.

Being an amateur classical pianist, I do understand how all that stuff can be done. It's just a matter of practicing things over and over until you get the muscle memory to overcome the challenge.

Personally, I'm much more interested in spending time and energy on piano because the audio result is wonderful (Mmmmmm Chopin). While I don't really care about devoting that type of energy to games, I understand that just like how I put time into piano, it's something you could definitely do.

Edit: The main piece I've always worked on is Debussy's Clair de Lune. I've probably played it well over 1000 times over the last 10 years in practicing it. If I'm going to play one piano piece, that will always be it. I can easily imagine how people would apply that type of obsession to a video game.

Yeah, these guys are super impressive. I personally think Pangaea Panga is the most hardcore.
Here's one of his big levels from a couple months back:

And here's a current one that's freaking amazing:

My kids fired this up after "not playing it" for the longest time.

I forgot how nice it was to hear them giggling while making levels. I'll be making more effort to get them making, and I'll need to make an effort to get more up myself.

Please do post here if you make new levels that you'd like some eyes on! The lack of a "New!" marker on the in-game friends/followed list is still frustrating.

Are we friends? I uploaded a new course a couple of days ago! Here it is if you don't have it:

Nice, Warriorpoet, bookmarked it to try it next time I play!

Yea man! Looked at your levels a couple days and saw no new ones.

Get on it. Get on it.

Spoiler:

says guy who hadn't made a level for like a month and a half

After looking through the tags list on the bookmarks site, I was thinking a bit of trying my hand at a level that would fit the "remix" tag -- where "remix" would be "looks like a classic first-party Mario level, but with some interesting twist" -- but haven't come up with a good idea yet. Or at least not one that would justify the effort of looking up and mostly-recreating one of the classic levels, instead of just free-form creating from scratch! Any suggestions?

Here's a new one for people to try:

Raiders of Magikoopa's Ark - Magikoopa is transporting his magically altered specimens aboard an airship. Make your way through the creature holds and confront Magikoopa in a nonstandard boss battle. (Curious for feedback on this one.

Fire or Ice? - Choose your poison, either slide through a gauntlet of chain chomps and buzzy beetles or inch along the dangerous dungeon. It's a challenging level dotted with a few hidden surprises. B8EF-0000-01A5-4B60

Bookmarked it, TriangleCat!

Unfortunately, my Wii U as of yesterday is telling me it can no longer find my external HDD, which has my Mario Maker save data on it! Have only tried some quick unplug/replug USB and reboot troubleshooting so far, but that hasn't worked. I'm going to head over now and see if I can rescue that thing somehow...
