American Truck Simulator catch-all

Pages

The game Rock Paper Shotgun says "feels more like Fallout than Fallout 4 does", American Truck Simulator hits the road on February 3.

California and Nevada are in the game to start, and Arizona will come as free DLC very soon. SCS Software hopes to cover every state and province in North America, from the equator to the 60th parallel, as paid DLC. There are also grand plans to tie ATS together with ETS2 (catch-all) and the forthcoming Coach Simulator as World of Trucks is developed.

Let's do this!!

I Google "ats trucks" and all my results are for American Truck Showrooms. I don't want real trucks, I want to know which trucks are in ATS!

Wikipedia says:

Kenworth T680
Kenworth W900L
Peterbilt 579
Volvo VNL 780

I see a lot of those VNL 780s around town here. I wonder if there'll be any cab-over trucks.

I'll be hanging in for the modding community to add helicopters.
God I wish these guys could create something like Take On Helicopters and then make it good.

I'm really looking forward to this, especially as someone who's driven extensively around California.

Ghostship, I'd much rather someone make a new SimCopter.

Good job that my trucking various amounts of crap around Europe has prepared me for you idiots ALSO driving on the wrong side of the road.

You mean the correct side of the road, limey.

Tagging for later good times.

Doing the same.

I don't know that I've seen a cab over semi truck in the US since I was a kid.

I see them mostly on film productions, but I've seen one Volvo hauling goods on the road (actually a friend saw it and sent me a photo ).

I feel like the last bit of that text exchange sends my point home.

YEAH!

Anyone. If they can capture the fidelity of Arma3 helo flying, then take the flight model toward TOH, or Xplane10 with mods, and add the mission hook from EuroTruck; you've got my $200.

I keep imagining a world where all these sims come together in one online service.

What if I could slingload a container from someone's container ship sim, onto someone's truck sim.

I'll be in my bunk.

Yup. I've considered this in the past as well.

Just imagine. I'd be doing my thing, growing & harvesting crops on my farm. Gravey would roll up in his 18-wheeler to collect and transport it to the docks. Greg "doubtingthomas" could then ship it over the high seas to far-off destinations.

It would be glorious.

February? I really though it'd be later in the year. Woot!

You know you can just "Add to Favorites", right? Although it's always good to know who are my future co-drivers/highway nemeses

Here's the update on the truck licensing. It's a relatively detailed explanation of what's happening with the licensing, but the tl;dr is:

ATS will ship with two trucks, the Kenworth T 680 and Peterbilt 579.

"Soon" after launch will be added the Kenworth W 900 and Peterbilt 389.

As for any other trucks seen in screenshots, there's no guarantee, but they'll work on it. If the process is anything like Codemasters licensing cars for Dirt Rally, then blame the lawyers.

Man, that's a downer!

With ETS2 they released re-branded, fictitious versions of some trucks initially and added the official logos and such later as they got approval. I guess they're going to avoid that this time?

US companies are going to be far, far more litigious about assets, so I'd imagine they're trying to avoid that.

I thought Euro Truck Sim seemed interesting but I have little interest in Europe.

So then this comes along, and it has Fresno in it.

Up on my Steam wishlist it goes.

This stuff already exists guys:

There is a lot more survivor's guilt related to dragging your rear two axles over a compact Peugeot, in that game though.

There IS the star citizen modular approach. Maybe we see how that turns out as a delivery method.

Who wants to take bets that *Legion* will drive the truck through the house he grew up in?

There is no possible other explanation for why anyone would want to go to Fresno.

My wife is actually the one that grew up in the city of Fresno, for me it was mostly a crappy small town one county over. Moving into Fresno proper when I went to college was a big upgrade.

My wife was born and raised in Modesto. She considers everything from the Grapevine to Manteca to be a crappy small town.

Anyway, I'm just joking--I'm sure Fresno is lovely. We now live in Orange County; but we keep going back for family events. I've made that drive on the 99 more times than I care to count. Looking forward to doing it again in a rig.
