Darkest Dungeon Catch All

I just picked this up on Steam thanks to a nice stocking stuffer Steam gift card from my wife. Looking forward to the insanity!

Got to experiment and I dig it. I know the official release comes out soon, but I figured it would be useful to do an exploratory, get the feel for it run before the final release. Super fun! I won the first mission without losing anyone by the skin of my teeth. I opted to go back to the ruins for a scouting mission and man, that was a mistake. My guys ran smack up into a brutal encounter which had half the party on death's door multiple times. Phobias and stress through the roof. We had to retreat with failure.

I can tell I'm going to love this game.

If you liked that first taste, you absolutely will love it.

I haven't checked in on it since early summer, but even then it was fantastic (esp. for Early Access). Since then I've been patiently waiting for them to reach final release. Saw something last week to the effect that the only thing missing now is the final dungeon, making it safe to do the early and mid-game content, but I've got enough on my plate trying to knock out all the expansion content in The Old Republic to keep me busy until it's officially complete (plus XCOM 2).

Gonna sit on this one until the final release and HOPEFULLY controller support is actually put in. I'm a couch PC player so gamepad support is nice.

oh, I didn't realise the final release date was that close!

Neat

It's about bloody time. I'm pretty sure I quit playing this in an early build about 19 years ago and have been waiting impatiently ever since for the full release. Just when I'd started getting back into Path of Exile too.

Oh well, looks like those PoE characters won't be getting very far this league.

Gah! Want to go home and play. Probably won't be able to really dig in until I get my kids to bed tonight. 9pm can't get here soon enough!

I am very much in on this. Looking forward to finally giving it a try.

Reviews on this are... mixed to say the least. Lot of accusations of shilling and vice versa.

Got a couple hours in last night. Never played the game before but watched enough videos that I was familiar with the mechanics.

Started out feeling good then started struggling after completing the first quest. Was chewing through guys and just keeping my head above water in terms of money. Came across a good combination of characters when I expected another dead-end run. Opened up the other places and proceeded to get through The Cove on my first try. Had two rookies in that party as well. Now that I realize that recruits cost nothing, and am getting 4 new recruits per turn, I can see how I can generate cash when things get really rough.

How does one camp in a dungeon? I know it's in the game but haven't figured out how to do it.

You have to select a quest that allows camping. You'll see it in the quest details before you choose to take it on. It'll say how many times you can camp and you get camping supplies allotted in that amount (this takes up an inventory slot).

Tamren - accusations of shilling?

I've only played a couple quests (I played the very first iterations of the Early Access beta, but nothing since) and it's the game I remember, so far - a very good thing. It's cool seeing some new classes pop up, and I've been needing something where I could sit down and just play for 30 minutes and be done. This fits the bill very nicely.

When you say shilling, I'm not 100% sure what you mean. I suspect you meant covert / paid advertising, but again, unsure.

I do know they have been really close to the early access players on Twitch, and are doing their best to get this out there. As for what might be going on behind-the-scenes, I can't speak to that. I'd tell you to watch someone play it for a bit and see if it's up your alley, whether that means waiting for Giant Bomb to do an updated Quick Look, or hitting up someone on Twitch you trust to see what they think.

You'll get firewood as part of your supplies for medium and longer dungeons, and can then use that in a room in the dungeon to camp and feast, bandage wounds, use camping skills, and rekindle torchlight.

Edit: Tamren-hausered!

FWIW, I put 50 hours into this when it first came out and it still feels like the same (excellent) game now (only better 'cause it has a whole bunch of extra stuff that wasn't there when I first played it).

I suspect there's still a lot of angry internet people who are upset about them making the game "unfair" (with the bodies and heart attacks, etc) and ANOTHER bunch of angry internet people who are upset about them letting people turn those features off if they want.

First ruins boss down and no deaths so far. (fingers crossed)

Thanks guys, I figured that was the case.

A tiny team from Canada with a Kickstarted game that's been highly lauded since it reached early access is being accused of shilling?

Wait...I can turn off bodies and heart-attacks? Never realized that. I haven't encountered heart-attacks yet but I doubt I'd turn them off anyway.

Heart attacks are no longer able to be turned off since they have been revised (happens at 200 stress when you have 0 hp), if you get to 200 stress with any hp, it drops you to 0 hp and 165 stress.

They used to kill you straight out when you hit 200 stress.

I went in kind of dreading the bodies, but I haven't minded them so far. I'm even finding that if you compose your party well you're actually able to make strategic use of them. For example, I was able to force a melee skeleton to the back pairing with one of the Man at Arms skills that has pushback. I'm sure there will be times where they're a nightmare to deal with too, but I think I'll give 'em a chance.

I haven't played it since shortly before they added the Abomination class. I really like it!

My old save is a "mostly upgraded" town, but super broke - I stopped after losing 6 high (L 3/4) level characters, on a batch of bad runs, losing a lot of gold. I started just grinding through rookies on gold-collection runs, throwing them out when they were too stressed.

I'm considering a fresh start with the new "full release, but the thought of having to scrounge up all those heirlooms again is... daunting.

I totally deleted my save so I had to start again from scratch

Two of the level one bosses down so far and only a couple of deaths!

Also HOLY sh*t the room battle music in the Cove is REALLY GOOD :O

Do note you can sell trinkets for money to recover if needed.

Ugh. Annoying quirk combo: known cheat (not allowed to gamble) + gambler (will only gamble).

Adventurer: fired!

Oh, neat. If you get a critical roll while scouting, you have a chance of finding a secret room containing uber-crystals worth 2,500 each. (not sure if the contents are random or not - might be other high level loot in there as well for all i know). That was a significant surprise boost to the coffers !

I found a secret room in an early dungeon and got two 2,500 crystals and a very rare trinket. Very nice!

I've yet to see that. That's pretty awesome!

I've made 8 or so runs at this point, all in novice levels as I try to build up a decent roster. So far, so good. I've had a couple squaddies reach Death's Door, but no actual deaths and I've manged to save up a bit over 20k in gold (that'll dip under 20k when I make my next run). I hadn't seen that they added diseases to the maladies. At first I thought that might be a bit much, with everything else you have to contend with, but they're pretty cheap (so far) to cure, so maybe not so bad.

Once I get my primary crew (who're all up to level 2) in better shape (stress, etc.) I'll make a run at the first boss in the ruins. I forgot you can rename your crew now. My son and daughter insisted on being in the game (Plague Doctor and Vestral), and I now feel obligated to try and keep them alive and free of maladies, regardless of the expense.

Fingers crossed!

remember not to rush everyone to level 3 upwards if you want to use them against the tier 1 bosses, since they'll start refusing to do the 'easy' dungeons. Level 2 is fine though.

Might catch some people unaware if their only decent/sane/healthy healer suddenly refuses to go on the mission

For me...just got the Siren to go and that'll be the first round of bosses defeated.

I started getting rid of my early people and making cash runs with seekers. Still not sure what my ideal party is but I really like most of the classes.

I'm just starting to get my feet wet on this game. Having trouble figuring out how many supplies to bring out. I had a group need food tons of times on a short run into the ruins (pretty much all I've done.) They got stressed, my highway man died, and I had to abandon the quest. The next time I stacked my food and barely touched it.

I feel like a shovel and bandages are good to have - someone always bleeds and the shovel gets plenty of use. Torches seem good to err on the side of 8-10.

Any advice for longer runs?

Alright, being you have a Healer in your group (Vestel best) Novice campaings -

Short- 8-12 food 1 Shovel 1 key (great for extra loot from chests) 6-8 torches.
Medium- 18-24 food 1-2 shovel 2 key 14 torches
Long - 24-28 food 2-3 shovel 3 key 24 torches

You will notice I have 0 bandage or any other perk. This is because on novice the bleeds/blights you can generally health through or eat food and ends up not worth the $$$ although if you pick one up on your path use it because the sell back at end is not worth much $.

Once you get to Veteran/Master the main thing that changes is I add some Bandages mostly sometimes anti blight. Reason is in Veteran you can get some Brutal bleeds 8 dmg for 3 turns etc. That are no longer always able to heal through. Other things really stay the same. Also note On Medium/Long I always bring enough to eat 8 food every camp. This is more for stress heal then for the health heal.
