Elite Dangerous Catch-All

Saw this in the notes

- Ship spins very fast after launch and is destroyed fixed

This happened to me yesterday.. went from full shields in my anaconda to zero shields and 20% hull. Would not have been happy if this actually ended up costing me insurance.

What card do you have? I found that after tweaking a couple of graphics settings on my 970 I stopped getting CTDs (I lowered shadows from "ultra" among other things--I think I also lowered terrain graphics quality).

GTX 760. Prior to Horizons I had been playing at Ultra settings, which is why I got such a surprise when I first tried to land an my display turned into a slide show.

I really don't know what to do with any of the new missions.

I took one that was "protect something" for like one minute. Seemed better than the ones that list 20 min on the time. But then I went to the system it said and nothing ever happened. Don't know if I'm supposed to fly around in supercruise, or go to nav beacon, or go to one of the specific sensor readings or target a guy and follow him out of supercruise. Just no clue at all what to do. Flew around for 10 min, tried a few things, and gave up and logged off. That was Fri or Sat night.

So I've been taking my Asp Explorer out into the black, landing on the most interesting planets I can find. Instead of heading for a black hole this time, I decided I'd go 'up' on the galaxy map until I got bored, landing on interesting planets.

My favorite system so far has been HR 3774. I've found this planet that looks like the death star:

IMAGE(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v635/GWJMinase/Screenshot_0000.png)

I skimmed over and landed right next to the giant crater and it's amazing how high some of the mountains inside were.

For some reason the screenshot button stopped working after I landed.

In the same system I landed inside a giant crater on a green planet and scavenged around. I think there are still some bugs as HR 3774 is pretty far out but I still found a bunch of gold guarded by robots (which are comically easy to destroy), a destroyed lander and an escape pod, which I wouldn't expect to see so far from the bubble. I also still see a few things like 'salvageable wreckage' complete with pirates floating around which strikes me as highly unlikely.

Frontier really needs to start adding more rovers, or at least the ability to 'tag' resources from the air for later retrieval. I would love one with better scanning and the ability to go faster over rough terrain.

Last night I found an ammonia world with 'carbon-ammonia based life' which is super cool. I've also found several gas giants with water-based life.

So far I've found that blue stars have the most landable and interesting high mineral planets.

One thing I will note on the prospecting, I have landed on lots of planets and *still* haven't found a rare resource.

whoa.. can it be? The mobile API is back up and running? Ross/EDDN seems to be populating from EDMC.

For those more familiar, if we find a planetary station with no data on EDDB, do we have to add it there before we upload data? Is eddb taking data for planetary stations without markets? I'm not sure what their policy on that is.

Also, what is the command to import edmc data into trade dangerous? I know Orphu's trade dangerous addon can to this directly, but seems like there will be a lot more actual location data now with the planetary landings so would love to be able to just do all of these things with one tool.

Yeah, API is back. Lots of changes need to happen in TD.

Right now, the best thing you can do is add the station and upload to Maddavo. He's added a flag for planetary stations. EDDN will still accept your market message, but many consumers will reject if it doesn't match a known stations, because of all the the mistakes that come out of the OCR readers.

No idea how to make EDMC add a station.

I'm working on EDAPI supporting the new flags.

OK, sounds good. Until we have your updated plugin, will your current still upload planetary market data to the local trade dangerous database? Not sure if you need to update in order to recognize the new trade goods.

Found another trade site, Elite Trade Network, that I really like. You can use it to find trade loops through several systems. It tries to calculate your profit per hour, and you can input your ship, cargo hold, etc. Just a little different than the other tools that find 1-way profits or 1 loop back and forth. I find it a little more interesting to fly around to a few different places instead of just back and forth.

Of course the data is just coming back online, as with all the other sites now, since 1.5/2.0 update. But I still made a couple million running a 7-system loop just now. About half the trades were Imperial Slaves, which still seem to have held decent prices without being updated for a week.

I'm sure it will get rolling even better as more data comes in.

Second evening of hunting around for a 5A FSD. I didn't know outfitting was a *%&^%£ treasure hunt in this game. It's beginning to really irritate me.

They all pretty much do the same thing and get the data from the same place. Trade Dangerous is offline though and does a really good job of letting you set whatever specs you want and it also does a couple of additional calcs to make sure you are getting the max profit per stop. For example, I've put in a loop for 3 (or 4) stations but it may return only 2 because going back and forth is a better profit than adding a less profitable extra stop along the route. Its also great if you're running a mission to bring 10 of something to a different station, but you have the rest of your cargo space to fill with other stuff. TD can easily find that.

I'm pretty sure all of these tools do basically the same thing.. Wouldn't be surprised if they just run TD in the background, I happen to like TD because of ease of use and other tools built into it.

You are in a ship that can hold a 5A right? Early on I made the mistake of trying to source parts for my future ship before I bought it. Systems only show stuff that you can equip on your current ship, not the whole inventory. I would say a 5A is generally easy to find.. I'd be surprised if you couldn't find it in Tombaugh.

Yeah, I was in Li Rong Yui space. I tried what felt like too many industrial or high tech systems to no avail (all systems recommended in various forum threads and tools as being good places to buy upgrades). Finally found both FSD and thrusters in Pikum. No idea why they were scarce elsewhere. It was a bit silly.

There are a bunch of new commodities TD doesn't recognize. The author (Oliver) has been MIA for a while, so they may need to happen in a branch. In fact, here's one:

https://bitbucket.org/bgol/tradedang...

He's also working on filtering options.

After a few more dogfights at the Hel navpoint, I think I've settled on 2x class 2 multicannons and 4x class 1 beams on my Asp Explorer. All gimbled, because my aim sucks.

I thought if you grab the latest items.csv from maddavo, trade dangerous would just add it do the database? I added a few manually just to check and "trade.py market [station]" was returning those commodities. That's different than actually calculating a run, but it didn't reject it.

Which plugin is yours, Orphu?

When I was rolling in my asp, this was my setup, or I went with burst lasers instead of beams. It worked well. My only issue was ammo consumption so now that I'm in my python, I'm just using lasers. Pew pew pewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww.

Oh, yeah, that probably works. You just miss publishing the new ships and modules to EDDN. And it can't deal with planetary stations.

But anyway, I just pushed 3.6.0 of the plugin. I'd recommend grabbing the "horizon" branch of of Trade Dangerous here:

https://bitbucket.org/bgol/tradedang...

And then 3.6.0 of EDAPI here (Bernd still has 3.5.8 in his repo):

https://bitbucket.org/orphu/edapi/do...

These will include support for the new "planetary" flag in Station.csv.

Xeknos wrote:

I've been maintaining the EDAPI plugin for Trade Dangerous.

Nice. How does the planetary flag work? The changes.txt file in that branch seems to be the old one.

It's just preliminary support by a contributor. I don't think he's taken the time to update the changes or readme. Many planetary stations don't yet exist in Maddavo's and others.

So far he's added a"--planetary" argument to station command, and added "--no-planet" switch to buy, local, nav, rares, run and sell command.

On my way back into Tombaugh after a (boring) night of trading, I see another CMDR.

Looking good there, Xeknos.

Thanks. Sorry for not responding, turns out I just fell asleep on the floor of my room.

I like the Courier. It's a neat little mission running ship.

Ugh, so I had to reinstall windows due to a failing SSD. Thankfully I had my bindings file backed up. However, when I transfered them back to the bindings folder today, the game won't see them. Any of y'all hear of this happening, or know of a fix? Thanks!

Is your HOTAS plugged in? It's happened to me a few times, and I eventually figured out that the game apparently only shows your device-specific custom bindings when the device is plugged in before you launch the game. Note that I last tested this a long time ago, so it may have changed meanwhile. But it's what I'd check first.

Excuse the insulting question, but are you sure you put them in the correct location?

When I uninstalled Elite Dangerous and installed Horizons, my install folder changed. Mine are now in:
C:\Users\{username}\AppData\Local\Frontier Developments\Elite Dangerous\Options

Actually, maybe it was my config file that moved locations rather than my bindings.

It's funny, I've tried them with both my saved bindings and the bindings that came with the voice pack, and it can't see either of them in either the appdata folder or the game folder.

I hope you get it straightened out soon.

The latest video from Obsidian Ant has really got me wanting to go back out exploring. He stopped off in a system (BD-12 1172) with a cool planetary nebula. It's about 1100 LY from Sol.

Stupid question time. I have both Elite: Dangerous and Elite Dangerous: Horizons on Steam. (And I love how the colon has shifted one word to the right.) Since I'm only playing Horizons now, can I safely uninstall the first one?

Yup!

My question: is it going to keep doing that? Next year, will I be playing Elite Dangerous Horizons: Inside?
