Black Desert

I heard so much about this game not sure what to believe. What you responded to was I had read a lot of people saying post level 15 it becomes a grind.

I went ahead and purchased the game already so I will give it a try in release for a bit.

I am still trying to figure out which class fits my old man poor reflexes and general no skill style.

I was thinking wizard as they are less mobile and I am enamored by the graphics of the spells.

Also hoping there is something to do in small groups.

One thing I was telling Wyser that I know the industry went away from this mode butl I think quest for leveling sort of ruined the community. Quests had to be made to be solo completable otherwise it was too restrictive to find people on the quest. So suddenly the focus is on solo play to level via a quest chain.

I actually think one of the reasons I made connections in EQ was the fact that there were no quests and we had to spend time together killing crap. There was no concern of who is on what step.

Not sure BDO will solve this problem but I can hope.

edit: fixed a bunch of typos

Day 2 not too much to report.

I did make a brand new guy and was able to get to level 10 in about an hour and a half of play.

My daughter is trying to recreate Princess Zelda with the character creator but she is still learning the tool. She worked on Zelda for about an hour but had to save her progress for the night to try again later. She started with a ranger and I am tempted to try one out in the game but the look to need a lot of mobility and player skill to be decent. Given my lack of skill figuring not likely my best choice.

Two interesting things happened last night that I think are worth bringing up.

First on the map there was this icon that looked something like a red teardrop marker with a hooded face on it that would appear and move at times. I ran it down and found it to be some sort of bandits or something that were a lot tougher than me. I think these are things that attack you on trade runs.

Second it got real dark at night. It also happened to be a storm at the same moment but both Wyser and I commented we couldn't see jack. I went and purchased a lantern for a light source but by the time I found a vendor daybreak was happening so will see if it helps. The lantern only last for 3 days but was not too expensive so is only a small money drain from the economy. I could see PvP at night being chaotic if it stays as dark as it was last night. Could be a lot of fun and add something to the game that others normally do not have.

So i decided to make a Berserker to try him out. I started with Warrior because i saw one in a pvp video, but come to find out cant do what he does till level 56 and beta only goes to 50.

So here's him with another sunrise and a couple shots of an early boss quest opener. In daylight this time so i took some screen shots.

I wanted to try a Valkyrie but no such luck in CBT1.

My only turnoff with KR style games is the women characters all have to be hookers or underwear models. I am all for attractive characters, it is fantasy after all, but as a father of 2 teenage daughters I really become a lot more sensitive to some of this.

I will put some screenshots up later of some of the stuff I seen.

Oh one thing i found out with the new guy is that a lot of quests dont open up unless you have conversations with specific folks prior to talking to the quest giver.

I wasnt finding ones i had done previously on the warrior and after some googling found out about the conversation abilities.

Plus come to find out some folks give you +1 to skills just for talking to them. So it's worth stopping and talking to anyone with purple dialog icon.

I noticed there where a ton of quest givers in the first town that I never even talked to in my haste to follow the main quest train.

I think once release hits I will take my time to enjoy the story, as such, and do all the quests in towns and talk to people.

Not sure if that approach will work or not but it might also help with the fact some guys would not talk to me further till I had higher knowledge.

There are a lot of game mechanics that I am not grasping yet and I suck at all the skills. My brain is having trouble processing all the key combos I need to use for each skill and then the combos that go with it. I am sure I will get it over time but right now I fell like I am button mashing.

You dont have to do quests to get knowledge. Just talk with them. Sometimes it requires energy to have a conversation.

Do the quest generally lead you to do things that you would want to do in the long run anyway? Like gain weasel knowledge for example?

One thing I was curious about is whether or not your characters sex is static to the class you choose i.e. are all warriors male and all rangers female etc? I thought I saw somewhere that this was the case.

That is the case sadly. I think there's plans to make sex equivalents, but after launch.

As ranalin said but there is one class wizard/witch that allows either sex. The names are different and the wizard must look older and the witch of course is a cute lady but other than that the skill sets are the same.

Post release there are a couple others that are like that or close to like that Blader/Plum and Ninja/Kunoichi are the other 2 I know of.

Right now it breaks out like this for release. Keep in mind this is just default as you can get all kinds of costumes that change the looks some.

Ranger - Elf Woman wearing stockings and mini-dress
Sorceress - Woman that for some reason reminds me of twilight
Tamer - 12 year old girl (thankfully they do not have the breast and butt jiggle of the other female characters)
Valkyrie - Bar maid woman
Warrior - Man knight looking type
Berserk - Super manly bare chested with 2 axe type
Wizard / Witch - Either an older man that looks like Gandalf or a cute lady in robes and floppy hat

In KR and RU versions I also believe these are out:

Blader/Plum - As name suggest sword wielding man or woman. Both to me remind me of more traditional garb similar to samurai armor and kimonos.
Ninja/Kunoichi - Male or Female dressed or more less like a ninja.

That is what I know any way.

check your email. GMs sent out pets... The cat is awesome! Crawls up to your shoulder when you stand still!

Cat also refuses to chase after your horse and rides with you

Is the Tamer similar to the Beastlord of EQ? That might be fun to give a go.

I broke down and bought the explorer package so far this game does look interesting enough for me to sink the time in to justify the purchase... even if I end up spending all that time in the creator module So I'll be in on CBT2

That Beagle pup looks adorable. My dad used to raise beagles way back when, cute little yap bags.

I really want to like this game, but I just can't make my mind up. I keep going back and forth on buying.

I usually play melee so warrior is right up my wheelhouse. I enjoyed the class the most. Tamer was fun, but felt like they had paper armor especially when I died from a one-hit. Of course it could have been lag or a beta glitch.

I think one of my issues is it just feels like a F2P game. With so many items having durability issues and the time it takes to do some tasks like gathering and fishing, I just don't know that I will stick with it. I also felt like I was always out of space in my inventory. It got to a point I couldn't turn in any quests or do any quests since I had only one empty spot and for some reason everything required two slots even just for crafting.

I also have zero interest in PVP which is the focus of endgame from what I have read.

Wyser has been playing the tamer so if he hop in here he can give you more detail but I think it is different than beastlord.

I find this guys videos to be really good for explaining the classes.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fGT9...

PVP is the endgame for this, and VERY grind intensive.

Durability issues is a good thing and makes for a lively economy. As for space issues... there's quests that give you unlocks spots for your inventory and if you're STILL out of space you can get storage at each city to help

I spent the weekend playing a Ranger.

Overall I have to say the combat in this game is fast paced and fun.

I went into this game thinking I wanted to be a Wizard because the spell effects are amazing. I am now leaning towards Ranger just because I enjoyed the movement and pace of play.

The wizard has to be static while casting all most all of his spells. The ranger on the other hand was moving all about as she went pew pew. I found the animations to be entertaining too as she spins, back flips, and jumps about while fighting.

I still end up with a wizard but I was really surprised overall how different the 2 ranged classes felt and played.

I did get my first kill quest that seemed more like a grind than normal quests. There was a bug in the quest text so I am not sure why random NPC wanted me to but he had me kill 100 goblins. Overall it was not a huge big deal but when you get quests at level 14 or so to kill 100 of a thing it seems like a bit.

Something I noticed is some hair colors like white and golden seem to practically glow with how bright they are. Come release I am will likely make darker hair so I standout a bit less when trying to hide or just not be spotted.

KR game = grind. Shouldnt be a surprise and way the combat is set up it's actually easy to kill that many in short order.

Characters i played in beta

Warrior
Sorcerer
Beserker
Wizard

So what you're saying is you really liked the berserker.

I did enjoy him. He's a brute literally man handling and slamming bad guys around to chop them up with his axes. The combos were very fun to pull off. It was just something to see the content with. I'm not going to playing him at launch. My plan for launch will be the Tamer. That way i'll have weapons ready for the Ninja when they're released a month or two later.

I played Ranger, Wizard and Warrior in CBT.

I got each class up to about 14.

I was going to try a Berserker but ran out of time. I learned it takes 24 hours for a character to delete and free up a character slot so I didn't have time to delete a character to make room for the Berserker.

I am looking forward to trying the Berserker and Valkyrie out in CBT2.

I messed with the dye system and I found it a bit click intensive and not as intuitive as I would have thought but once I figured it all out it certainly allowed for a bunch of different color looks.

I am not sure if there is a limit on the little pets you can have out at once as I had a hawk, dog, and cat out all at once. I liked how they picked up loot for me.

Was not complaining. Just mentioning I got my first quest that said kill 100. What is odd is up to that point most of the quests were kill 2, kill 5 or some other really small number.

Didnt think you were just wanted to folks know that was nothing to be worried about.

I think the pet limit is 5

Found a page that has the location of all the quests that expand your inventory.

have they given a timeline for cbt2? I see the website mentions late 2015/early 2016 as release target.

I hope it's right around mid Jan (pref between Jan 13-20) as I will be taking a week off from work at that time

Both are slated for Q1. So i suspect CBT2 in January and the launch in March

Just updated the OP with more up to date info and bunch of videos
