The Quarterly JRPG Club - Let's 'Grind' Down that Backlog!

I'm okay leaving Child of Light in, there still is a good chance it won't get picked, too.

I actually beat it a few weeks ago, Valkyria, and enjoyed it. The idea of making it quarterly was so that it was manageable to play through a sizable game. Don't know if people got burned out, but I didn't post much because, well, I didn't have much to say. Wonder if others felt the same.

I would be down for Child of Light, but also consider it to be a bit on the short end for a quarterly thing.

I got burned out because I commonly found that after a long day of work, I didn't want to sit down and have my patience tested. I think it was the mission-based structure which at times was pretty unforgiving that turned me off toward finishing it in a timely manner at all. At least in a more standard-structured JRPG, I could go somewhere and grind and it wouldn't feel as repetitive somehow. I think VC just seemed like a hurdle-jumping competition and that aspect of it wasn't for me.

What I liked to do was maintain several save slots. For each mission, I would save at the start of my team's turn so that it things went completely downhill during either that turn of my team or the enemy team's turn, I could start over from the beginning of my team's previous turn rather than begin the battle all over again.

I still had a few missions that were worth restarting all the way (&$@ *&%#@ Mission 7) but overall it allowed me to play the game in manageable chunks (sometimes only a half hour of time) without going overboard with save-scumming.

Woot!

As of right now, all games with three votes or higher will make it in. I have 50 bingo balls and if my calculations are correct, we're at 49 for games above 2 votes.

When we're you thinking of doing the selection?

Probably the last week of the month.

Do it at midnight on new year's eve. It would be the event of the year!

Oh man, I'm not going to be home at that time! Otherwise I totally would!

Counterargument: do it now, so if I need to buy a game, I can keep an eye out for a sale!

Touche - how about tomorrow night? That way people have ample notice to get their votes in.

I agree with Clock here - maybe a day or two of notice and then do the pull? Getting whatever the choice is on the cheap would be awesome.

STEAM SALE PILE BUILDING, go!

Deal! Updating OP / title now. I'll probably do this tomorrow night or else this weekend if that sounds cool.

I just want to make sure everyone has their votes in.

I'm going to be totally selfish and nominate the games that are my priorities for next year:

Shin Megami Tensei IV (3DS)
Bravely Default (3DS)
Final Fantasy XIII (PS3)
Xenoblade Chronicles X (Wii U)
(LOL)

I'll be adding X to my list in a few weeks, Shop. Aaaah.

I'll nominate Xenoblade Chronicles X and Legend of Legacy.

Updated, but based on the vote count, I don't think they'll be making it into the cage.

I'm not worried about it. I just want to be heard!

I'm waiting for JRPG political parties to form to push certain games. We can have conventions and debates and everything!

We could call them 'random encounters'!

Have to add a vote for Xenoblade Chronicles X.

So now I have a dilemma where there anything with 3 votes and above comes out to 52 total votes. The bingo balls only go up to 50 - how do I manage this? I could clip it at 4 votes and above, but that would drastically reduce the selection.

You could go for a "kids table" drawing, because that always works well

I plan to have Xenoblade Chronicles X by 2016 - so you can add that too hahaha

Might as well make 4 votes the new cut-off, then.

I would actually be okay with that. It does limit the pool more but those are the games the most people want to play.

pls to explain kind sir

brokenclavicle already submitted 5 votes, and then XC-X, but I assume he's willing to drop one of those for XC-X, and I assume that I'm right about that. So, I'll bump XC-X to 4 votes, and that will be the cutoff.
