Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes - new F2P turn-based squad battle game

Pages

General expectations:

We aim to be a friendly, casual guild - We expect guild chat in this thread and in game to meet GWJ's standards. Comments and jokes that are sexist, homophobic, transphobic, ablest, etc will result in a warning. Repeat offenses will result in being removed. Your behavior has the ability to impact everyone else's fun so keep that in mind when choosing how and where you vent your frustrations.

No daily activity requirements - There is absolutely no pressure to hit a minimum threshold for guild contributions or the daily guild challenges to remain in the guild and never will be. As a player, I would hate the extra pressure to meet a metric daily. As a guild leader, I refuse to police people in that way.

Extended breaks - We appreciate folks logging in daily to add their 600 guild coins, but missing a day or two isn't going to have any repercussions. Going on an extended vacation from the game (2 weeks+) can lead to you being removed. If you're going to be taking a temporary break from the game and plan to return, just post in the thread (not just guild chat) so we know your intentions to return and when. If you left in the past or were removed for inactivity, you're welcome to return at any point.

Officers - The current officer list is RoughneckGeek, oilypenguin, Eleima and MathGoddess. Feel free to contact any of us if you have concerns or see behavior that violates our standards.

Rancor raid rules:

Timezones - All times posted are oily-centric. Eastern Standard Time - US... UTC -5.

Red shirt phase - The first 24 hours of the raid, no damage is to be done. This is our red shirt phase. Send in a sacrifice to be killed to get your name on the leaderboard. The ideal way to do this is to send in a single 7* character to die to the pigs. If that character is fast enough to be able to attack before dying, make sure to target the guards and not the captain. If for some reason you miss the red shirt phase, you are welcome to make a 0-damage run at any point before the raid finishes to make sure you receive rewards for the raid.

Raid scheduling - During the red shirt phase, a raid schedule will be posted in the thread. The schedule lists the time window for each phase with the list of players allowed to take a run during each phase. Once the raid schedule has been posted, it will not be changed or adjusted again to avoid confusion. If something we tried in our scheduling did not work well, bring it up in the thread and we'll try to adjust again for the next raid.

Damage phases (This is important) - Most phases will end before their time window has expired. This is expected given our overall power vs the difficulty of the raid. This does NOT mean the next phase starts early. Everyone is still expected to stick to the posted schedule for start and stop times for a given phase. If by some miracle a phase has not finished by the time it was set to expire, the folks listed for the next phase will have the opportunity to finish out the previous phase as part of their turn.

Example: If MathGoddess is scheduled for P2 from 3pm-6pm but logs in at 5pm and P2 is over, she now must wait until P4 where she gets 3 attempts. If she logged in at 4pm and P1 were still active, she could take her run in P1 since that phase had already expired.

Lock-ins - On the raid schedule, if a phase has a lock-in time listed it means we're planning to have many people coordinate their runs to occur at the same time to waste damage intentionally. To do this successfully, you MUST start your run before that lock-in time and can NOT finish your run until that time.

To break it down a bit more, the raid does not register damage done while each player is doing an active run. When you finish your run, the damage from your run gets totaled up and counted against the raid's health according to which phase the damage was done in. By intentionally using this to waste damage, it allows more people to have the fun of throwing their best teams at the raid and compete for the top rewards.

Example: If P1 has a scheduled lock-in time of 8:45am, you can start your P1 run at any time before 8:45. You can retreat and restart attempting to get have a luckier, better run as many times as you wish. Once it's 8:45, no new runs for that phase can take place. That means if you haven't started your run yet, then you missed that phase. If you're in your run, you can no longer retreat and restart. The run you're in at that lock-in time is the one you need to finish out to get your damage score.

FFA phase - When the scheduled time for phase 4 expires, the raid goes into FFA mode and you can throw anything and everything you have in your roster at it to finish it out.

Raiding penalties - To make raiding fair for everyone that's contributing guild currency, there are penalties for breaking the rules by putting damage on the board during the red shirt phase or for going out of turn during the damage phases.

  1. For an initial offense, you'll be asked to only take a 0-damage red shirt phase run and sit out during the damage phases.
  2. If you ignore that or are a repeat offender, you may be asked to completely sit out for a raid.
  3. If you have been asked to sit out completely and choose to ignore that penalty then you will be removed from the guild.

I'm giving it a shot as well and am kind of surprised at how much i'm enjoying it. It may just be its really smooth performance as a contrast to a lot of similar games, but something about it is really clicking so far. I do wish there seemed to be more certain ways to get specific characters, particularly given that a lot of leadership abilities seem to rely on keyword synergy, but after two years of playing MPQ i guess i should be used to this gatcha style.

Judging by the ridiculous prices for specific hero bundles they're popping up in the store (ranging from $5 to $50 for packs), that's probably where they're looking to make the majority of their scratch.

A shame its not available on PC, since it looks kinda fun.

I successfully sent an invite Stengah.

Send me your invites.

I really like this game. Its crazy FTP with every annoying FTP mechanic but whatever, its star wars. I have always had a soft spot for the "Rush" style mobile games.

Yay! Mine is 676-858-554

478-796-624 here

Edit: Has anybody read or figured out how your loaner character is assigned? I'm guessing either highest level, highest power, or leader of your pvp squad, but i'm not certain

It's the leader unit best I can tell. Which when building a team is the first character selected.

Edit: Oh and my friend code is 231-825-747

Hm another phone game to waste lots of time on... yeah, maybe.

Am I reading this right? Do you have to get to level 18 to friend people?

Yes, but level 18 is crazy fast.

I don't think the cantina battles are working. When I click on it, it sends me to a special events fight. I am building up a ton of cantina energy.

It works for me, but the F2P in this game isn't done very well (at least, from the player's standpoint). It's Super grindy to make any progress, but the energy and levelling mechanics limit how much you can grind quite a bit. Star Wars Uprising's very grindy, but it's also more fun to play and not nearly as limiting. Marvel Future Fight's really good for that too.

Well on my way to unlocking HK-47! Just hit 20 shards on him this morning. I also got Luminara Unduli and Greedo from dropping some of my Chromium on a 4-pack.

Generally how fast are you guys getting people? I think I've only gotten 2 ewoks outside of the people you start with by just playing the first few campaign maps.

Also I bought the dark side starter pack and Dooku rules.

I, uh, really like this game. Like, a shameful amount. The energy mechanic is a killer though.

Fairly slowly. The most reliable methods seem to be the Squad payouts, which are 200 Squad points/5 shards of a limited list of characters (thus my 20 HK shards to date). After that, it's Chromium cards for a crapshoot, or focus simming hard missions for the potential shard drops (I have about 10 Dooku shards from this). I've got about 14 or 15 characters so far, though.

Edit:
re: the broken Squad Cantina battles, this may fix them:

After I got 5 characters of each side I stalled out on getting new people. Doing 'hard' versions of levels has higher chances of dropping tokens for characters but to get hard levels for a chapter you have to beat all the levels on normal.

Once you've 3*'d a given hard fight, you can use sim tickets to automatically replay it (this uses your energy, but gives you full rewards in seconds, instead of minutes). Handy when I'm just popping on for five minutes at work, rather than dedicating 20-30 minutes to the game.

I'm through the first 3 campaigns on normal for dark side and I still don't have a 5th. Still a looong way to go on vader shards.

And bless you, whichever one of you has the level 34 dathomire witch that's up to borrow. she's the best and I love her.

Yeah those sim tickets are good for farming items.

I have 6 or 7 light side but still stuck on 3 dark side, and I finished the first dark battle, first light on normal and hard, and 1 more fight to finish 2nd light side on normal.

I don't understand what's up with the timers.

Last night I played a bit before bed, and was getting a free card from the store every 20 min. And there was an 8 min timer on squad pvp battles. Now today at lunch I played and there's no free cards anymore. And the squad battle timer was on 12 hours, like it was set for the daily reset at midnight tonight.

I think the daily stuff is set so that you can only play them 3 times.

So the first cooldown is 12 minutes, the second time is 12 hours, after the third, it's locked until the next day.

That was my impression for PvP and for the challenges.

Why they think that's better than just having X/3 right there on the tile, I don't know.

They're all about the limited times per day things.

Bronzium cards are free every 20 minutes, up to 5(?) times per day.
Challenges and PvP are each limited to 5(?) times per day with 10 minutes between attempts (counting from when you start).
Hard nodes are limited to 3 times per day with no time limit.
Day resets at midnight Eastern for me. And you can use crystals to get more attempts in a day, but I'm not about to do I don't know if they buy just one more go, or a full compliment.
Shipments reset on a diffident schedule that I haven't deciphered yet.
And pvp rewards come through at 6 pm eastern.

I don't quite understand why, but I can see the patterns.

I'm mad that I'm playing this game. I'm such a sucker for Star Wars Paint over any F2P game type.

I suck

When you are farming stuff, you did notice the little arrow on the upper-left hand corner of the screen that will auto-run the battle for you...right??

Still vastly slower than simming it

True, but you don't need to worry about using all your sims my way. I know that I don't have that many built up, so I figure I will save them.

Yeah that was quick.

Careful for any of you who, like me, just blindly buy all the items in the supply drop. They can slip in some things that cost purple crystal.

I broke into the upper 500s of the pvp bracket and am getting stomped by people who seem to have sunk a lot into the good characters. God bless freemium games. Still enjoying it, though.

Nice. I'm in the 4500-y range right now. I've got a couple of good characters being worked on, shard-wise, but they're still a week or two away at this rate.
