The Sims 4 announced

Nicely done. Makes me want to fire up the Sims 3. Not buying 4 until there's a big sale and my pile is smaller.

I had a lot of fun with the Sims 3 legacy challenge. Haven't tried it in Sims 4.

My Sims 3 guy basically lived at the gym until he sold enough books written on the library's computers to make his house livable.

I still like using the money cheats to make myself improbable mansions, though.

A nice write. I have also played with different options. I used to LOVE to do the Motherlode cheat and just buy anything and everything just because I could. But it wasn't until I tried a Legacy Mode, till I really enjoy and appreciate playing the game.

I wish I had enough money to buy all of the Sims 4 add ons. It's hard to go from all the EPs in The Sims 3 to the base game only in The Sims 4. Like Budo mentioned, I think I might wait for a big sale on these.

So, with the Sims 4 coming down to $25 for the first time, what's the consensus on buy vs wait on this one? Still feel too content light? Still not worth it? Good price to pull the trigger?

I think it's really fleshed out now, and with the next expansion due in a few weeks, I think it's worth the price.

I've enjoyed it since day one.

Great game.

Filthy enablers.

Bought. My three year old is almost as excited as I am.

Just don't make the mistake that I did with my youngest daughter. I thought I saw a teaching moment when her Sim left the fireplace burning and started a fire, and explained that the Sims models things that can happen in real life. I was quite pleased that I'd taught her young, impressionable mind about fire safety. I was less pleased a few minutes later when her Sim was peering through the telescope, and was squashed by a meteor. She was freaked out for days.

BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

I got an alert for this sale and finally bought it for my wife along with the job expansion.

Hubby of the year, here. At least in her mind, and that's all that matters.

I read that as the Job expansion, and really got excited about tormenting my Sim to prove his faith.

They'd have to add a "Frustration" bar.

No, it's the Jobs expansion, where you take other companies' innovations, make iterative improvements, put an Apple logo on it, and make bank.

If I get some extra money before the sale ends, I might get it, but my money is going to a couple of other games right now. BUT, if those two other games were not out, I'd definitely pull the trigger on TS4.

I pulled the trigger on this game for the Winter Sale along with "Get To Work" EP. Pretty fun so far. Looking forward to see what will be next for EPs.

I have the Sims 3 and played around with it, but never really got into it. I tend to play games like this as a strategy game to win instead of a storytelling device. Does The Sims 4 change up anything to make it a better strategy game?

I think it's a bit of a stretch to call The Sims (3 or 4) a strategy game. To answer your question more directly: no, I don't think so, not really.

It seems 4 has improved the polish on the micro scale. Sims now interact a bit less janky with each other, have more variability in what they do, and can at times multi-task (e.g. eat and talk).

On the other hand, it took a massive step back on the macro scale. The neighbourhood idea is absolutely terrible in my opinion. And the biggest culprit is that, because the world isn't contiguous and is not simulated beyond where your character is, the game keeps spawning all of the other characters in the game right in front of your house. Every single character in the game repeatedly walks up and down the street in front of your house. All the time, every day. Even if your house is in a fancy gated neighbourhood out of the way of the main town.

And travelling to another neighbourhood is treated the same as vacation travel in 3. In fact, if I want to go to a pub from my house (which on the map is only 2 houses over), I have to click on an airplane icon. In fact, when you want to travel to a pub, you select it by having to select the world you live in first, then select the pub. As in, there is no difference between travelling to a pub in another town, and one that's down the street. I'm really not feeling this design.

The "open world" neighborhoods are one of my favorite things about Sims 3 and it's hard to believe that EA didn't keep them for Sims 4.

Hmm... I've never looked at this game as a strategy. So I'm not exactly sure how to answer that question without knowing more of what you mean, or how you play it as a strategy. Sorry.

This one the one thing that REALLY got to me when 4 came out. BUT, the loading into the other sections of the neighborhoods is really quick. Also as a bonus, in my opinion, you can travel to any new world that is purchased/downloaded. I thought that was pretty good.

It was hard going from owning all the EPs to not having really much on TS4. But the game loads SO MUCH quicker for me, and just a smoother gameplay over all. I'm definitely okay to have made the bump up now. Especially for the 50% off price that I got it at.

When I say I played Sims 3 as a strategy game, I guess I mean that I played to maximize the character's success (job, money, etc) and not as a storytelling device. I always tried to make the 'best' choices.

I don't feel like there are a TON of jobs, but the play is still the same pretty much. Get To Work seems like the other career EP for TS3 when it came out. There are a few that let you actually go in with the character to play it out.

I think for the most part the decision making is still pretty much the same. I just feel like they've improved the interacting between the sims themselves and just making that seem so much more smoother.

I'll probably end up getting it eventually, but fortunately I haven't been in the mood for a new Sims game. I'm hoping that mood lasts as long as possible!

I do like the idea of being able to travel to *any* of the new worlds. I would love that in Sims 3 without having to tinker around with mods.

I think there are less careers than the fully expanded Sims 3, but my impression in Sims 4 was that there are more things to tweak on individual sims. I kind of put it on hold until a few expansions came out, so I may be revisiting it again soon.

I've never been a huge Sims fan, so it's probably best to put Sims 4 off of my radar.

It's always one of those games that I'm not really craving it if I haven't played it in a while, but when I do, I get hooked on it for a while.

Game has been fun so far. Bought the two expansion packs and a few of the stuff packs. I love how smooth the game has run for me so far. I know TS3 was not as smooth and fast on my machine. I'd like to see how that changes as more and more content is released and downloaded to play with. Guess we will see.

Got to doing my own Rags To Riches challenge:

Vampires add-on... Yes or no? At 20$ it's a nice price for me. But kinda expected a discount on the others add-ons to "celebrate".

I wanted to add City Living. Is it worth it?

EDIT : Well, guess I'll tested it out, just bought those two.. Couldn't wait for a discount.

Arise thread!

... I kind of always wanted to do that...

Anyway, EA Origin has their Holiday Sale going on and a lot of The Sims 4 expansions are on sale. I have not kept up to date on the game recently and was wondering if anyone here had experience with the DLC to recommend which ones are worth looking at getting. So, any recommendations on which expansions are worth picking up?

Just started playing the Sims 4 and I'm digging it but I have to figure out all the new mechanics.
