Fallout 4 Catch-All 2.0

MIT seems to be pretty happy to be included in Fallout 4:

I did and it doesn't seem to work. Not a deal breaker by any stretch but I"d hoped that they'd have included an FOV slider by now.

Looks like I'll be spending what little time I have tonight messing with ini files and creating a character. *sigh*

Enjoying the hell out of this game so far. There is just so much STUFF to find, I was having way too much fun just ransacking a supermarket. Good times, good times.

So far, it is definitely a sequel to Fallout 3.

My only complaint is that the mouse feels awful. Horribly inaccurate or laggy or something. There are currently arguments going on about whether it's the acceleration or something else, but either way, I'm switching to a 360 controller tonight.

There are two issues with the mouse. Mouse acceleration is turned on by default (which can be changed in the INI only), and in the link *Leigon* posted above it sounds like the Y axis scale is 50% of the X axis scale (which can also be changed in the INI). I turned off acceleration last night and the game felt pretty good. I'll be trying the Y scaling change tonight.

Ah, thanks. Yeah, I noticed the lopsided axes as well, but I didn't think there would be an easy fix. Glad to hear there is one. The acceleration is a much bigger problem for me. I have a 6 bajillion DPI mouse, and it feels like sliding it through mud right now.

Make sure when you mess with .ini files you're accessing the ones in your Users/yourname/Documents/My Games/Fallout 4/ rather than the directory of the game itself. And yeah, tying game engine to game speed is ridiculous, particularly for a major game like this. I actually don't feel bad for all the negative user reviews. PC is where this kind of game belongs and we shouldn't have to play second fiddle to consoles.

I'm really tempted to take 8 points in Endurance for that cannibalism perk and just go full-on weirdo cannibal straight out the gate. Maybe combine it with a 1 in Charisma.

Since the package has arrived it feels like days have passed. Even though the day has ticked an hour closer to go home time.

This sounds like it could be fun but not necessarily something I'd want to do on a first play through.

Like a fine wine, Fallout 4 apparently gets better after you've opened it and given it a chance to breathe a little.

My package has arrived!!!! Now I just have to wait until the boss leaves at 3, and I can sneak out!

Mine showed up at the house! Installing now. Not sure if I will have a chance to play between when I am done working and when I have to leave tonight, but at least it will be installed so I can hop on briefly in the morning.

Installed on a new 2TB PS4 drive, ready to rock n' roll after work

I love Fallout 4!

Spoiler:

Getting the power armor and ripping a mini gun from an aircraft, to jump off the roof of a building and smash into the concrete below, unscathed no less! Having raiders run in terror as bullets pepper the surrounding area, only for a death claw to pummel through from the ground below and commence an epic battle with our power armor sporting, mini gun totting protagonist.

I cannot wait to jump back in. I am nearby Red Rocket Truck Stop. I have dinged level 4 and have chosen Armorer, Gun Nut, and Locksmith. I think next up shall be Hacker or Scrapper.

Prob 7 hours in or so now. It's good, but it really is just Fallout 3 with some small updates. That's not necessarily bad because I haven't played 3 or NV in so long. Anyways, back to the game!

Mine is here! I'm glad the mail carrier tends to come later in the day since I didn't have to worry about the pip boy sitting on my porch until I got home (though no one has ever taken a package left there.)

I really like the way the case slides open to reveal everything inside.

Now to go install!

My copy arrives tomorrow...for anyone familiar with Boston, how recognizable is the landscape?

I've lived here 10 years, and its hard to tell so far. I've only spent a couple of hours with it--they don't just drop in downtown. You start off outside of the city it seems. However, based on everything I've seen from videos, outside of a few landmarks--not very recognizable at all. It seems the Wasteland really did a number on the Commonwealth.

I hate my Internet...

Anyone having any issues with hacking terminals?

I'm on PS4. Attempting three different words that each return 0 likeness has left me with only words containing letters that I'm led to believe are not present in the correct password.

BEAR. SLIP. CAMP. These all return 0 likeness. Remaining are WISE, WARM, WAIT, FIRE, MANY, ELSE. Likeness should be returning a hit for the initial three if these are my remaining options, or do I fail to understand hacking in Fallout 4?

My pip-boy edition arrived today. It's on the shelf now. Why did I get it again?

Steam decided to download 24Gb twice, which was irking, but I'm in and playing now. I've taken a fairly familiar path - S1 P4 E1 C2 I6 A7 L4 and I'll probably boost lockpicking and hacking first off.

My character Dee (name and look based on the Rat Queens character rather than our colleague) took a long time to get right - she has a button nose and small mouth in the comics, which the face editor doesn't want to do, and much bigger hair than the game is willing to give me. I guess that Betty would have been closer given my rogueish way of playing, but a sciencey character is close enough I think.

I don't think Dee is a voiced name - Codsworth is calling me Mum.

As I understand it, likeness means the words share the same letter in the same position.
By that metric, WISE and FIRE don't have any letters in common with the initial three words.

I haven't gotten this far yet, but I suspect "likeness" refers to the Damerau–Levenshtein distance between the words. Which is basically how may characters need to be changed to get from one word to the other. This algorithm is the basis for guesses at the word you intended in spelling checkers and google search.

Trying out my Pip-Boy while Fallout is slowly downloading. Found out my phone doesn't quite fit. It says the Galaxy S5 is supported but I have the S5 Active which is slightly larger, so it's a no go. Sigh.

I was planning on just using my tablet anyway since it is bigger, but still. Oh well, it will look nice on my shelf next to my Anthology nuke and lunch box and bobble-head.

From what I've read the hacking is more or less the same as in Fallout 3. In 3, it would just tell you how many letters were correct. So if I guessed BEAR, but the password was FEAR, I would get 3 correct. If I guessed BARE I would get 0 correct because even though FEAR contains A, E, and R none of them were in the correct position.

If that's also the case in 4 then WISE and FIRE are the only possible options.

It's not this complicated. Muttonchop is right, the number you see means that many letters are correct AND they're in the right position. It works exactly the same way it did in FO3 and NV.

THIS IS GREAT already broke my Pip-Boy.

Not everything that looks like a button should be pressed like a button.

I'll be taking it apart and fixing it.

Almost done installing (PS4).

Anyone know how long it's supposed to take to install on an Xbox One? Mine has been sitting at 99% for a while now and I'm not sure if it's actually doing anything or not.

My steam friends list peaked at 12 online playing Fallout 4 at the same time.

Today I binge. 7 hours free!!!

Last night I spent way too long on base building, with collecting materials for that and the crafting of various things, I fear for the compulsive collectors going into this game. They may never get out!
I agree with Certis, that you'd think people would have cleaned up their own spaces and make them feel a little more like home, despite having very little. But then again, I tried to make my base look nice, but those tools (which are impressive as an add on) are too limited for there to be any chance of that.

I wonder how long until someone makes an app for hacking.

So, what's everyone playing? Oh...
