Blizzard's Overwatch Catch-All

Not free. $40

I'm incredibly skeptical that's not an early buy-in for something that goes F2P very early on. Heroes of the Storm had an early buy-in and I think Hearthstone did something similar during its open beta (you got a promo card and maybe a card back) if you spent money that early on.

$60 for consoles. Ouch. This is not going to be F2P at all. I think they're intending to charge for the base game and charge for additional content, too (a la Call of Duty). Except, without a campaign I guess? For $60? Hmm.

They also said that the price includes all heroes and maps "so far". Knowing Blizzard, it's highly likely future heroes (and most definitely cosmetics) will require additional purchases.

Yeah, 60 with no campaign hurts. I guess I will be getting it for PC then. Let's hope that this one isn't going to be a flash in the pan like Titanfall was...

I doubt that Blizz will convert this over to F2P simply because they haven't before with their other games. However, I can see them doing a 'Free Edition' that gives access to a limited selection of heroes in limited play modes.

I think they just killed their game.

I do hope you're right, the current marketing information doesn't really give a clue about that, at least for me.

As Gaine said though, they have Lite versions of all their games, so it's possible there will be a limited version to try. Probably some level limited, as I assume Overwatch will probably have a levelling metagame of some kind.

seriously, seriously doubt that. They dont do this type of stuff on a whim. They'll have numbers to back up their decisions.

Maybe Hots haven't done so well in microtransactions?
Considering my dislike for f2p I can only be happy if Blizzard moves far away from it.
But it sounds like this will have tons of micro-transactions build on top of the paid game. First 21 heroes are in the base game, and after that they each cost. Plus skins etc. of course (which is fine, if people will pay for that, it can only help to support the game).

So I popped in this thread late and watched the trailers on the first page.

I just wish they'd develop a show with the animation style shown in the cinematic trailer. These team multiplayer only games are of no interest to me. I've never really gotten the appeal of spending hours shooting random strangers.

I always loved the concept of TF2, but never played it. If they had a decent single-player mode with bots I'd be all over it, even without a campaign. I played the hell out of the original Unreal Tournament just because the bot AI was great, could be adjusted depending on what you needed to do, and didn't need an internet connection. I digress.

It's such an awesome concept but man is it disappointing that it's yet another MP only shooter. Blizzard always does great for their games, but it feels like they are giving up a potential market by trying to charge for something that everyone else pretty much gives away for free these days.

TF2 can be played with bots only.

Asking money for Overwatch is one thing. But 60 euros is way too much. I already know I won't own the whole game for this money. Double dipping is a big no no in my book. And for me, this is a prime example of just that. Got FO4 coming in a few days and a Pile O'Shame....so, no interest at all anymore. Too bad.

Well, the game comes out in Spring of 2016. So there's plenty of time to get re-excited about it. But I think it will be worth paying attention to the details of the payment model for this game as they emerge. I honestly have a hard time believing they will charge a full $60 for a multiplayer only game, and THEN on top do micro-transactions. That doesn't seem to pass my smell test.

They've only been charging the same price for their games since the mid 90's.

I dunno. SC2 just got an episodic series of campaign missions announced (on top of the two expansions) and WoW has had an optional cash shop for years at this point. I think $60 retail + microtransactions is where they're headed with a Starter Edition available by end of 2016, unless they switch the game to F2P outright.

Was there a new wave of invites? Anyone else get something in their inbox?

I didn't, but a friend of mine did - he was streaming the game last night. Played as Reaper for the first time and pulled a 10-kill streak.

Game looks good.

There's a stress test this weekend so Blizzard invited a lot more people into the beta (for this weekend only). Check your accounts! I got in 5-10 minutes ago.

Warhammer40k terminator voiceover: overwatch enabled...

Just checked...no luck for Disco.

In like Flynn... Err, I mean LtWarhound.

Not for me. Blizzard doesn't like me.

Got in but I have no expectations of playing anything other than Overqueue for a stresstest weekend.

Nor i. I havent got into an early beta for anything they've done since WoW.

Got the email today. I'll give it a whirl tomorrow night.

Wrong thread.

Make sure to check your client as well. They stated somewhere that if you are selected your Battle.net client will allow you to install.

Oh hell yeah! I saw it say Install last night, got giddy but thought "I never got an email or key..."

No email

I got in. I'll probably noodle around with it a little bit tomorrow morning or Sunday morning.
