Anyone still playing Rift?

Come on Manach, jump on in! You know you want to!

Unless somethings changed they matter.

At this point they largely do not matter, guilds can cross factions and BGs are populated cross faction (i.e. you will get put on the team for the opposing faction to have enough folks on both sides to launch a game).

A new patch (3.4) was recently released adding a new role, the primalist with six souls for that role.

The gimic is that you have a status bar that your skills adjust and depending where you are at on the slider it enhances certain skills. Conceptually it is a bit like the goblin shamman from WAR, but actually interesting to play.

I am interested in coming back but the price is too much. You basically have to buy $35 or $40 worth of trion coins to get the primalist.
Unfortunately, they no longer sell in brick and mortar so they never seem to offer discounts. So patience doesn't even seem to pay off anymore.
(I bought Storm Legion in the store for $15 and it was a steal! I have yet to see the batch of souls after that [patch 2.7] go on sale at all. AFAIK it is still $35 worth of Trion coins that it was a year ago)

Yup storm legion is $25, 2.7 souls are still $35 and the new primalist is $35...

FYI - even though I got storm legion for $15, $25 is still well worth it. $35 for the 2.7 souls was not worth it. They weren't bad. They were luke warm and apparently didn't get going until the 50's. So I am less eager to jump on the primalist despite it looking really neat!

There are two packages you can buy via cash, they are 35 for primalist only and 100 for primalist plus stuffs.

That being said for the items that you can get via the in game shop they can be sold in game so you could check the AH or ask in trade; or you can pay someone who will gift it to you (with the obvious potential to be scammed so do your homework for this option).

Something like the primalist unlock probably goes for 3 - 4k platinum in game.

My highest level character is a 47 or 48 cleric. (the next highest is a 32? mage) I have nowhere near 3-4k platinum
I love playing both of those characters but the leveling curve is so slow, it suck my will to play after a few days or a week.
They sent me a survey a few weeks ago and that was pretty much the gist of what I told them as to why I don't play.

Having succomed to the temptation of Threadcromancy, has anyone tried the Rift prime server.

I really don't get the appeal of prime servers in general but Rift especially.
Ooh I want to play the game without housing! That would be so cool!
Instant adventure? Na, stealing quest objectives was so cool!

The appeal, at least to me, is revisiting what I like about rift with out the cash shop playing a role in gear quality.

I’ve been playing on the Prime server. It started out great but the population dropped off heavily again after the initial month and now it doesn’t feel that much different from the base game, where you can run around a zone for an hour and see next to no one.

Rift has housing, probably one of my favorite implementations of it. Prime isn’t exactly the launch version of the game- they did keep in some later additions and refinements, the dimensional housing being one of them.

Aah! That makes sense.

I knew Rift had housing. That was my point that "classic" style servers often remove well liked features from later expansions. I did not know they were including housing in the Prime servers.

Wait, Rift is still alive? I remember getting a group of Goojers together and applying to beta way back in the day. I didn't end up purchasing the game though because I was not happy with the direction of the game towards the end of beta. Are there people playing?

Yeah, hell Asheron's Call which started in like 1998 only went fully offline in 2015? I think.
They can be pretty cheap to maintain if there is the desire by the company.

God, I loved AC... hadn't really played since about 2001 or so, but for those 3 years, it sucked me in like no other game has before or since. I wish I had the skills to remake it using modern technology and gaming mechanics.

Rift, by comparison, kept me occupied all of about 2 months, including beta and launch.

Check out Project:Gorgon who's trying his best to do his take on it with a new game.

Awww shucks!

Handful of us Kickstarted this and it was just recently released on Steam in Early Access mode.

It's only 1-2 developers doing what they can. It has all the hallmarks of AC, with discovery and exploration being key components. There's 0 hand holding. You're dropped into a world and it's up to you to figure out where to go and what to do.

Sadly, the graphics are still AC era

Gameplay is old-school fun, though.
