The Quarterly JRPG Club - Let's 'Grind' Down that Backlog!

damnablebear wrote:

Another admin thing: Should I create a new thread for each quarter, like SallyNasty is doing? I can have this be the main 'host' thread and split off for each game if that sounds reasonable.

I think that would be best, especially if someone wants to go back at some point and revisit a game we've already played: easier to read one thread than parse one giant mega-thread for relevant information.

(Also it would be nice if this thread was featured as the thread of the week on the podcast at some point, to gather some more interest from the community.)

Sounds good, and agreed! I'm very excited for this to kick off

Actually, it might be useful to have links to the quarterly threads in the first post (once we have had a few).

Super curious to know what we're going to play! Especially since I'm at a good point to start something new.

Ditto! I have a few game sessions left to finish Wasteland 2, but after that I can focus on whatever we pick so long as it's in my library (or cheap enough to say "why not?" and buy it )

....the backlog grows

Didn't realize this thread had started! Late to the party, as always hehehehe

Trying to make sense of all the posts and, if I'm not mistaken, we still haven't picked a title for the club to play this quarter?

Correct! We have not. That happens at 6pm EST tonight

Okie, I am late. I was offline for over a week. I have a few on the backlog and a few that I won't mind playing again if they get picked like FFIX. I'll pick 5 I see people mentioning that are on my unplayed backlog.

• Nier
• Final Fantasy XIII (1 &2 I only played the first game so I will finish the other 2 parts if it gets picked)
• Ni No Kuni
• Tales of Vesperia
• Fire Emblem anything (I have never played any of them. The SO picked up the 1&2 combined game for me a few months back at a Goodwill.)

I don't have any Nintendo system newer than the SNES, but I can play a PSP game as long as it works with PSTV.

I don't own Nier but I have been really interested in playing it, so I don't mind buying it if it gets picked, even though it somewhat violates the stated intent. You can put Persona 3 FES on PS2 in place of it instead if it doesn't count.

Hey Log_In_Lain - nominations are over as of last night, but I'll be doing the pick tonight. Looks like your top picks are already all in the running anyway (almost), so you have a pretty good chance of getting something you can play.

When JRPGs are being drawn out of a lottery everyone is a winner.

Count me in! Here are my Top 5:

Persona 3 FES
Kingdom Hearts 2.5 HD Remix
Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII
Ni No Kuni
Bravely Default

Voting is closed already Voting will reopen on/around Jan. 1. Sorry all! I will be picking the game tonight from the votes already gathered as of last night.

OK, I don't particularly like JRPGs, but this bingo cage idea has me really interested in reading this thread.

Wow, this thread wins my Most Creative Thread of the Day Award. The random connections are electrifying!

I'm looking forward to seeing what wins and getting started.

I'm still aiming to be online in 30 minutes for this, but setup may run a few minutes over. Stay tuned!

Setup is nearly complete! Please enjoy the hold music!

Waiting for a few people to jump in, looks like I don't have anyone yet. I'll wait for 5-10 people before I start, probably. Just so we can have some folks watching!

Ha! Great standing-by music.

Cool bingo cage!

Valkyria Chronicles wins! Will update OP and create a new thread shortly.

I was at the gym and missed the stream. What's the game? The suspense is killing me!

Edit: What excellent response time! An answer before I even posted!

I'll probably be in for knocking it off my list!

Guess I'm out unfortunately, no time to game at home :(.

Sorry to lose you Chris! It looks like 10 hours a month or so at this point - I'm hoping you find a way to fit that in if possible, but if not, please stick around for next quarter and feel free to poke your head in!

Also, updated OP, new thread link is here! https://www.gamerswithjobs.com/node/...

Valkyria Chronicles? Gotta see if I can get a copy of it cheap and quick, since it's disc-only. I may end up joining a bit later if I can't find one in the next week or so.

There is the Steam version now!

Did you ever finish VC2? You could always go with that so you could participate in any strategy discussion and remark on how it's different.

I have both games and have not finished either.

It's on sale on Steam right now, under $7!

Aaaand purchased!

Looking forward to playing a bit when I get home. Won't play much of anything over the weekend, since I'm going to the beach, but I'll get back to it in full force come Monday (I hope).

That's a reasonable price. Looks like I'm in. I just have to remember to buy it when I get home.
