Wildstar: Catch All

No posts in 2 weeks but figured I'd throw this out there. I have 2 keys to the closed beta currently going on. If anyone wants them, just let me know.

My brother played this a lot and loved it. I'd be interested in a key.

Key sent. I've been contemplating a dive back into MMOs but I always seem to play for about a month and get burned out. I did enjoy Wildstar for the couple months I played it, I just hated the game once I got to max level. I heard that has changed but who knows

Enjoy!

So, there is a beta for the switch to the free to play?

I have a key for the F2P Beta as well which I can't use because of regional restrictions.

Send me a PM if you want it.

Edit: Clamed by Rave.

If you still have a key DeThroned, I'd love to beg it off ya.

I signed up for Polygon when they had a giveaway, but couldn't post for 24 hours. They enabled my account early, but it was too late.

Sooooo. . . I'm interested.

Key has been sent.

Wheeeeeeee!

Thank you very much.

Installed it. Gave it a poke for about a half-hour.

Those hooks. . . the dig deep! Mmmmm. Tasty WildStar.

A friend from my FFXIV FC wants to try it out when it goes F2P, and I'm inclined to join him, I just hope the end-game and community have gotten some straightening out, because if not, I see myself quitting at max level again.

I gave the beta a shot after a few months playing it at launch, I still hate the control scheme and think you need spider fingers to play it well.

You can configure it to match whatever scheme you want. I'm using the same keys that i use for pretty much all my mmos.

No, its not mapping the buttons. Its the way targeting and firing off abilities works. The only way i think its comfortable is with an MMO mouse. Otherwise with the strafing and dodging and lining up shots it feels clunky. add in 6+ buttons on top of it and regardless of where you map them, its spider finger time.

I should also add that most my keybinds also work for my shooters too. With a few exceptions all my movement and abilities are done on the left half of my keyboard. Still if you're not used to changing up your control layout. Yea you'll have to do the spider finger method. Just not required.

So I got into the beta and I think I'm gonna stick with this one. This is the MMO I will play. I believe it. Once a year I pick an mmo to try and I haven't stayed with any of them. Arche Age, Guild Wars, etc. But so far there's something about the polish and friendliness of this game that hasn't completely confused and thrown me off yet. Not sure how to add friends in game but my character name is Jimmy Johns if you wanna add me.

I bought the game when it first released and neither the rogue nor the warrior classes really gelled with me. I'm now in the F2P beta and would love to find a class that I love to play as I've found that my number 1 criteria is finding a class that I find fun. Here is a list of classes that I have taken to max level in their respective games, any thoughts or recommendations in Wildstar?

WoW: Monk, Death Knight, Hunter
SWTOR: Bounty Hunter(didn't care for Jedi Knight)
Guild Wars2: Guardian, almost took Warrior all the way up but it was a bit bland
FFXIV: Warrior

I LOVED the rogue class, but right behind it was the Medic and Sharpshooter.

It's hard to do a a comparison because WS classes are so different from your standard ones.

I'm with ranalin - while WildStar flirts with the traditional archetypes (wizard, warrior, rogue, healer) - as it does with so many other things, it finds a way to put its own spin on each of them.

Reading your list, Elliottx - it looks like you prefer melee characters and/or "tanky" characters (I'm not familiar with SWTOR, so I don't know how the bounty hunter measure up).

Given that you've already given warrior a spin in WildStar and found it lacking, that makes it hard to give a recommendation.

From looking at existing build guides, and playing in the Beta - it looks like they've mixed up the levels at which you unlock certain powers - so it might be worth giving Warrior a spin again. Then again, you might want to give all six classes a go. With the Beta you can skip that first tutorial section entirely, and start your game at level 3 and be planetside from the word "go".

This makes it pretty trivial to try each of the six classes to, say, level 10 and get a feel for their playstyles.

For myself, I'm going to be rolling Stalker (rogue) as my main, and probably warrior or spellslinger as my secondary. Though, frankly, I find all the classes to be pretty playable.

Could you explain what it was about the warrior and rogue that you didn't like? Or what it was that was lacking about them? Maybe that would help us point you to a class?

Medic is moderately tanky, right? All pew pew weapons though.

For me the class i liked the least was the warrior. It just starts off so slow. It doesnt shine until level 20 or so and that's a long time to suffer through.

Engineer is warrior like in being tanky, but it's pew pew. Dont really consider the medic tanky just hard to kill due to heals.

So I actually bought this game at launch, do I get anything in the free to play stuff?

Played a warrior on PTR, and it looks like they changed the order that some of the powers pop-up. Because a few build guides I would peek at for leveling were telling me "use this power until level X" and I wasn't getting that power until X+10. Meanwhile the power I should start using in my 20s or 30s as soon as it unlocked was there at like, 11.

I could, however, just be dumb.

Sort of.

If you still have any Boom Boxes, I believe those are still there.
You're grandfathered in for having a bunch of characters instead of the default 2 that F2P accounts will have.
How much money you've spent on your account (software, monthly subs, etc) also unlocks assorted. . . prestigey-type awards for your account (and as you continue to spend money in the NCSoft store you'll keep increasing that "level" and getting bonus goodies. . . )

The servers are currently experiencing slightly high queques. Probably be content to just update the game this evening.

I'll be hopping back in to give it a shot. If nothing else I am just curious as to what all my cosmic points add up to

Downloading now, because between Star Wars: The Old Republic and TESO why the hell not?

Well, not playing tonight. Turns out my account was banned in August. Working on getting the account back. I submitted a ticket but figure it may be a short while to get a response based on the fact that I'm going to assume they are swamped.

Oh man I am so sorry. I would be afraid of their support right now. On the bright side you might miss server issues.

Got logged in alright. Tons of people. Lots of refunds in mail for old crafting items. Lots off reward tier items available. I wanna check out a new class and see the start of their lighting update.

Saw this was F2P now. Not that I need another MMO to dabble in and then ignore. Is there a server/guild specific for GWJ that I need to worry about?

EDIT: Installed, fired it up, made a character, pressed "Enter Game" and nothing happens... left it for about 10 min and gave up. Try again in a few days I guess.

Some people are finding that the character they created showed up after they later logged in. I tried to make a pvp server character for kicks and it got stuck. Logged in this morning and there he was.

On the bright side the servers looked to be running and I got in this morning, which I think is better than yesterday morning. Still expect the queque to go nuts as the day goes on today but we'll see. Anyone who hasn't played lately can expect wait times, lag, and possible server maintenance for a few days.
