FF15: GWJFFL 2015 registration and discussion

For those autodraft issues, even yahoo fantasy ten years ago let you limit the players drafted by position. Not sure why fleaflicker still can't get that right!

Yeah ESPN has had the min/max at each position for at least 3 years, maybe a couple more.

ESPN is the one that murdered Minase with all the league's tight ends.

The default settings are higher than what your roster can handle. If you don't change them, then you get what you get.

Like my current league there has an 18-man roster. But the max for the skill positions by default was like 5, 8, 10, 6, and then 3 each for def and kicker. Had to trim that down to 3, 4, 6, 3, 1, 1 to get a reasonable team.

Yeah obviously talking about next year. If anyone is in another league this year and notices better performance than FF, recommend something.

It isn't free, but MFL has always been reliable.

From watching it, thought you were a little heavy on RBs.

I did try to send you a message online to remind you we were drafting.

Yeah i saw, I was out of town on a family emergency. Nothing too serious though.

Its been one of those couple of weeks where everything is happening at once. lol

I keep looking at the team I drafted in Pro and thinking did I really only have 3 beers last night?? It's like the all-risk team. Lev Bell, Alshon Jeffrey, Arian Foster... Then there's Peyton Manning who might miss a couple of afternoon games because of the early bird special going on at Denny's. You guys are tough, I just did not see a lot of value falling to me in that draft and felt like I was never really comfortable with a lot of my picks.

Pro is no joke, it's always the most challenging draft of the year for me. There are no softballs in a Pro draft. Especially with Elliott drafting directly out of my queue.

I was at the turn and so had back-to-back picks and for the first/second round and the third/fourth round turns I had 3 people in queue for each with just 3 left infront of me and both times the 3 were taken in the 3 people in front of me... After those first 4 picks though, that didn't seem to happen again the rest of the draft so I really like my depth, just not so happy with my top guys.

Edit: on a different note, I just saw something cool. Apparently fleaflicker has a setup that you can include draft picks for next year in trade proposals...

Yeah Pro is always a brutal draft. I should steal from Legion's queue more often as I have a pretty complete team this year, that is really all you can ask for in Pro. Of course I got none of the sleepers I wanted thanks to ukick always seeming to grab them with the last pick of the round(which made it even more annoying because it was an important player and I only had like 5 seconds to register that they had been taken).

I feel I went a bit early on QBs(Wilson and Elisha) but having two QBs that stay healthy is important. Really curious how Drew Brees will do this year, only passed on him for Wilson because I have Cooks and didn't want to double down.

I read an article fairly recently suggesting that doubling down is actually the smarter strategy. I can't seem to dig it up, but it basically boils down to if you don't end up reaching for players to get a QB/WR pair then it's usually a better investment than looking elsewhere.

Of course, the caveat is you need a pair that is gonna be good consistently (don't go with Dalton and AJ Green) and I don't think Brees and Cooks are necessarily there this season.

I usually like to wait at QB and don't mind getting a little bold (in one 14-team league, I have Cutler and Bridgewater), but I thought Manning should still be enough of a difference maker that I had trouble passing on him in the 4th - I would have been more comfortable waiting til 5.02, but I had several WR on the board that would have made it back to me after the turn. Then I further hurt myself at WR by taking Foster/Blue at the 6-7 turn. I feel like rounds 4-9 I was sort of grudgingly drafting guys.

Hopefully I'll be happy with my team when Jeffrey is healthy and Bell and Foster are playing. Knock on wood.

Is there any way in Fleaflicker to view the draft results by round?

Yeah. Go the League page, select Activity and there is a Draft tab.

Some highlights from the Pro Draft:
1st QB: 2.3 #15 Andrew Luck QB IND
1st TE: 1.9 #9 Rob Gronkowski TE NE
1st DEF: 13.5 #149 Seattle Seahawks D/ST SEA
1st PK: 13.9 #153 Stephen Gostkowski K NE
1st Rookie: 4.3 #39 Amari Cooper WR OAK
1st Brown: 6.5 #65 Isaiah Crowell RB CLE
Last Team With First Player Taken: 8.3 #87 Bishop Sankey RB TEN

Looking at my Pro draft, there's a few guys who I felt were good values.

Jarvis Landry at #62 (ADP of 47) I was very happy with. Elliott I think it was called it as soon as I took him, there was no way I was letting him slide. I'm a Jarvis Landry believer; I snatched him up in the Dynasty draft last year. He's an underrated catch-everything machine.

Duke Johnson at #107 was smack dab on the ADP nose. He's the guy the Browns want to be the lead back, as Isaiah Crowell was good for fantasy last year but really Just A Guy getting 4.1 yards a pop on the back of a dominant run blocking O-line. I think the smart money is on Johnson as the lead back by midseason, running behind a killer O-line, but the fact he's recovering from concussion means you can't count on him in September. (And the fact that the Browns are looking at free agency for a running back to hold water in the interim should tell you everything you need to know about their opinion of Crowell).

Kyle Rudolph at #131 was only a couple picks later than ADP, but I think that ADP is low. He's coming into the season healthy and he's set to get fed the ball for as long as he can keep himself on the field. Last year's numbers suffered as he got hurt in week 3 and was not fully healthy until after the season. But the Vikings gave him a nice new contract rather than looking for another TE, and that Norv Turner offense wants to feed the TE, so Rudolph is a good bet for as long as he can be healthy.

I also really like taking Vernon Davis at the ass-end of drafts this year. Vernon quietly played all of 2014 hurt, and the passing game under Greg Roman got downright bizarre in 2014 (the team attempted the 11th most passes of 20+ yards despite having no field stretching WR, and the fewest amount of passes to running backs, even as the right side of their line disintegrated). Geep Chryst's offense plans to throw more to backs and not have Kaepernick taking so many 7 step drops in a collapsing pocket, which would seem to play to Vernon Davis getting more work too. It has not been good in preseason so far, but there's not many players you're going to take around pick 200 that have as realistic of a chance at climbing back into fantasy starter territory as VD.

Damn, work has been so busy I didn't even realize the Pro draft was last night. There goes $26.

I got a hefty 7 mediocre RB and 3 DST. Time to work the waiver wire!

I'm so so about my pro draft. I took Gronk in the 1st because at the 9 position all the elite backs were gone and I think the ONLY way you take a TE is there is if it's Gronk. I just hope I didn't get sucked into big name old man player syndrome since I got Steve Smith and Larry Fitzgerald. Matt Frote and Andre Ellington are big question marks too so there's a good chance my season could be a disaster unless Brees/Gronk/Jordan Matthews put up a sh*tload of points every week.

Here's hoping.

kaos, I almost forgot too. I went on Steam to play some Rocket League at 8:55 last night and wondered where ukick was. And then remembered about the draft.

I like my Pro team much better than my all-TE team in keeper. Looking at everyone's rosters I don't see a clear favorite, a testament to everyone's drafting skill in Pro.

/snicker

I like how some of us were talking about being too busy to do much draft homework due to life/work in the chat before the draft.

Edit: nm

When i was in pro, my first year ever playing FF I drafted a kicker and everyone made fun of me. I ended up winning the division and finished 4th I think. Another year I couldn't make it and took an autodraft and also won the division.

so yeah...skill and all that

I am under the impression that, as far as the cat-herding phase of this operation is concerned, my work here is done. I've also got this nagging feeling that I'm forgetting something (and no, I don't mean fielding a decent team - that ship has sailed). If anyone is expecting something from me or if there's anything (GWJFFL-related) that I can/need to do, please let me know. Thanks.

Thanks for all you do, Grump!

+2 (1 for each league I'm in)

Great job, as usual Grump. Thanks for facilitating everything!

I'm the one on the horse.

I was going to guess the one with the hat.

Do all the dynasty people have their keepers set? There are some players that I would expect to be kept that aren't right now.
