Max Payne 3 Catch All

Is the time stamp on your post right Quintin? Even so, I echo your sentiments on this game as I feel it was so far from what I wanted out of a Max Payne title. I didn't expand on my thoughts a few years ago because others were having such a good time with it I didn't want to put out any bad vibes.

I honestly can't remember how I felt about the cover mechanics anymore but I probably didn't even think about it.

I didn't really play the first Max Payne but I watched a friend play through the majority of it. The lack of the noir narration was a massive part of why I liked the series in the first place. I don't know of any other games that felt the same way Max Payne 1 & 2 did. The style was just fantastic.

Max Payne 3 never felt like it was part of the same franchise. Sure the character had the same name and backstory as Max Payne 1 & 2 but everything else just seemed completely out of place to me. It's been years since I played it so I honestly can't remember what happened in Max Payne 3 other than some rich people died and Max was on a boat. There was also an empty sports stadium at night.

From Max Payne 2 I can't remember specific names aside from Mona Sax but I have a lot of small bits of memory from great parts of that game. Address Unknown has always been one of my favorite bits.

Yes, the timestamp is right, I just finished it last night.

Is Max Payne 3 better or worse than the Max Payne movie?

Oh that's a tough question. Been years since I've seen the Max Payne movie.

Thanks for reviving the thread a bit, Quintin. I think about this game and shake my head, haha. It had its moments, sure, like getting HEALTH to score the sountrack and a couple nice set piece action scenes. But this game truly transformed me into a full-on gaming rage-aholic.

Max Payne 3 is one of the best shooter campaigns ever made and you are all nuts.

I would much rather replay Max Payne 3 than Half-Life 2.

Five years isn’t too long to restart an argument is it? I just picked this up dirt cheap and played it. I really enjoyed the story. Maybe corruption by the ultra rich rings a little truer in 2020? Or maybe the joy of blowing through their lackeys is sweeter?

I did think there were lots of gameplay issues (eg snapping in and out of cover, never being told you could turn off the laser sight). And there wasn’t nearly enough bullet time. It may be nostalgia but I seem to remember with a good run In MP 1&2 you could stay in bullet time long enough to kill all the enemies.
