Streamers with jobs

It's enormous fun. Definitely give it a try.

About to stream Rocket League again with Higgledy33 at www.twitch.TV/hatchetjob

Me and Higgledy had our first guest on Twitch today. We were streaming when a chap from the chatroom asked to play with us, so we decided to give it a go. I think his name was Deathgun, followed by a string of numbers.

I assumed he'd be a kid and that as soon as he came in to game he'd play like an idiot and, if he came into the chat he'd start screaming and swearing.

It turned out that he was a kid, but he was actually polite and played for the team. Unfortunately he hadn't activated his 'share voice chat' option, so you won't be able to hear him.

With me only taking 2 courses this summer I've picked up streaming again. For now. Expecting kiddo number 2 in late August, so I will probably fall off the radar after that.

Breaking Point for Arma 3 got me back into the streaming vibe again.

Can maybe jump in with a bit of Rocket League next time if you're interested!

Sure, viewers have hopped in to play and chat before.

I went to college in Newcastle. I miss stotties.

I come to you with a plea for help SWJ. You're my only hope.

I've recently moved to a new city which has excellent Internet. Great down, even greater up on the brand spanking new NBN here in Australia. Which is great! It means my upload speeds far exceed the recommended speeds, even for 1080p. So me being the podcasting, reviewing kind of guy I am, decided to set up on twitch. I followed the OBS setup and a few youtube tutorials and ended up with a pretty sweet setup: animated background, some nice overlays, scene switching, no dropped frames and a solid 3500 kbps up.

Unfortunately, when it came to getting some friends in Australia to test out the stream, they reported constant buffering every 5-10 seconds. I tried everything I could, even dropping the resolution to practically nothing (640*360) but they would still get buffers all the time, and even drop the stream occasionally.

I've read in some places that, despite being able to upload to Sydney servers, there are no Australian or even nearby servers for viewers -- it apparently all comes from San Francisco? I've also seen unconfirmed info that you need to be partnered to change this default viewer server. Can anyone confirm that for me? Are my friends in Aus doomed to never be able to stream me without buffering for days?

Maybe it already exists, but if not: create a group for GWJ Streamers. When people join it, they will get the announcement a streamer can send once he starts streaming. Add the link as well then

Ohhhhhh, splendid idea! How does one do this?

I didn't add the Steam part. Hopefully it was implied enough (not sure by what though lol maybe because we are all on Steam as it is).

Basically, create GWJ Streamers group on Steam. Spam invites to all goodjers.
Send an announcement (as you already do with your group Veloxi) when streaming.
Each streamer can include a link to their twitch (or other) channel.

Twitch Teams are limited to Twitch Partners. I don't think we have any streamers on the site big enough to be Twitch Partners.

EDIT: Oh, a Steam group. That's different.

Actually did my first real stream this morning. Digging into some real noob level Terraria, had a couple guys jump in and give some great advice. Even got a couple follows out of the deal. =)

Followed a bunch of people from this thread just now, hope to see your streams! In about five minutes I'll be jumping into some Hand of Fate, an innovative little deckbuilding/action game from an Australian developer if people want to tune in.

EDIT: All done now, but you can find the VOD here.

You can't imagine my pain when Greggs ceased making the chicken and stuffing stotties. I'll never experience that joy again.

EDIT: Oh, a Steam group. That's different.

To create a team on twitch a partner has to create (and presumably, maintain) the team. Anyone, including non-partners, can be a member of the team.

I know jptrainwreck is a partner, but I think he is (was?) already on a team for Binding of Isaac.

(and yes, I know it's moot since we were really talking about Steam stuff).
-------------------
In other news, I maintain a Steam Group for my stream - and its nice to be able to schedule events there, and know that my (small) group of fans who have joined know what I'm streaming and when.

I'd think that a group with a handful of streamers getting their event(s) announced all the time would get. . . spammy.

Spammy is ok, because you know that that is what you want when you join it. It's to get those announcements. The group could be named to indicate that even. But, will leave it up to you guys to do it or not

I think we'll chat about Amazon sales and movies

We had some incredible matches.

American streamer friends, I need your help!

Re: my previous post which no-one seemed to have an answer about, is anyone able to help me out to see if people in the Northern hemisphere are able to watch my stream without massive buffering issues? I'd really appreciate it if one of you could jump in and see if my stream runs okay. I am more than happy to set up a specific time and date so that I can get an idea of why the people in Australia that have tune in have massive issues with buffering. I'll even get up super early so it's your evening. Thanks in advance!

Living in the Netherlands at the moment. Also willing to check out your stream.
Let me know when you are streaming again

Shall do! I'll PM you at least a couple of days in advance for when I'd like to test, if that's okay? Thanks for your help!

Sounds good

Let me know when you plan to stream and I'm happy to evaluate it from Los Angeles as a point of reference closer to the Twitch mothership.
Also, for comparative purposes you might try another service like Hitbox. You can sign up for free and it's easy enough to configure to stream to either service.
I wouldn't recommend trying to stream to both simultaneously, but as another way of seeing where in the chain things are falling down it might be helpful.

If you're going to try another service, I'm a big fan of beam.pro.

And there are also options for streaming to multiple places at once. I use restream.io to broadcast to Twitch (because you have to, since they're the big player), Beam (because I love the community there), and YouTube (so my videos are archived, though I really need to get around to editing. . . ).
