Total War: Warhammer

After Rome Total War 2 experience, I feel safe to say that I will never be buying a game on day one ever again. (apart from Tell Tale Games, although they are sure to mess up at some point)

While the Total War games have had their fair share of bugs and "WTF" moments, they have also been some of the best gaming experiences in the genre I have ever had. I'd buy it just to have Karl Franz stand in front of my troops and deliver motivational speeches. That and kill orcs, lots and lots of orcs. I so hope they release or add into the ability to play as the other races/Chaos.

Edit: Oh and Steam tanks, Steam tanks!!! How can you not want that?

I wish they would have Skaven

Oh this game is going to have so much DLC/Expansions. The Rome/Shogun games pushed DLC every other week it seemed like.

I'm so excited about this... Mark of Chaos is still one of my all time favorite games. I was very upset when i lost my disks.

Tzeentch? Pfft..... wake me up when Nurgle or Khorne turn up.

* I could see Tzeentch working in a more role playing game setting (he's a master of subterfuge and schemes) but in a war game...seems the least appropriate choice of chaos gods.

** Unless of course they just keep him in the background pulling everyone else's strings. That might work, on thinking about it.

Tzeentch is sorta the least family unfriendly of the various choas factions, so if they want a crowd beyond warhammer fans I can see that playing into the choice.

Looks so good! I agree, I can't wait for Skaven either! I had Chaos and Skaven miniatures years ago and this looks to be exactly what I am looking for in a Warhammer game! I'm with SpyNavy, expect lots of DLC I am sure with different race packs..and a gore pack

As long as they nail it I am totally fine with that.

So ... no Slaanesh then?

Warpfire throwers. That's what we're really talking about here, right?

So, yup, Ima gonna play as the Dwarves

That was pretty cool, I like the direction they have gone. They've really captured the "feel" of the world in my opinion.

360p?
*search, search, search*
Here we go, 1080p60 (tasty) from the official Total War channel:

Channels that repost official videos at 360p should be demoted to the bottom of all search results forever.

That video is awesome and I'm all in for the dwarves too. As far as Tzeentch is concerned, I have a suspicion chaos will be the balancing faction similar to Atilla or the shogunate. Maybe Tzeentch will also seduce some of your generals to create interesting civil wars?

Never played any of the Total War series but that looks pretty cool.

This cannot come soon enough! Gimmeh!

Any word on beta or early access?

Not that I am aware of

In the past CA really hasn't done betas or early access. They have a small band of bloggers and streamers that they let in early but that's about it. I want to preorder but will probably wait a couple weeks after launch to make sure this isn't a Rome 2 style fiasco.

I think I'd like this, but I can't deal with real time battles. No, not even pausable ones. They just aren't my thing. BUT I'd love a Warhammer grand strategy game. If I'm going to auto-resolve all the fights, should I even bother? Or is the strategy portion likely too weak to stand on its own?

I know I'm asking for blind speculation, so a best guess based on previous Total War games is fine.

I usually play through the RTS battles for the first half of the game, when they're relatively small, less frequent and more important. Then I switch to auto-resolve and it's still fun.

Given Total War's history, you'd best wait for at least some of the following: reviews, patches, sale or GOTY edition.

.

This is Warhammer so an instant day 1 buy.

Maybe we should start a betting pool on how many DLC's this will end up with?

Well if they market dlcs like the tabletop marketed the figurines/armies/etc ... a LOT of them.

As many as it takes for us to play as Skaven!

Just looked at the price for this on steam and my jaw dropped. £50!! Not sure what that is in dolleur, maybe 75 or 80? I really, really want to play this but I'm not sure that it's value for money, especially with the greatly reduced faction count. I bought ATTILA at launch for £30. I skipped Rome2 though, can anyone remember how that was priced?

I've never paid £50 for a video game. Sure, I've probably spent that much on certain games over time (blizzard games, I'm looking at you), but that one off £50 dent in my wallet will hurt.

Unless you're really day 1 eager you can always wait for the inevitable steam sale to chop 33-80% off of that.

I'm eager to play but I can totally wait as well. There's no spoilers to avoid, I did buy Rome 2 and it was just ok at launch but has become much, much better over time. There's a lot of hours still to play in that game, and I haven't even started on Atilla and the Chalemagne DLC. Never mind all of the other titles.

Also, that is a game that will quickly and frequently go on sale on Steam and other outlets.

(Day 2 purchase).

I'm eager, but not sure if I'm that eager, so will probably, as you suggest, pick it up later at a reduced price (and ideally with more factions thrown in!).
