Sleeping Dogs (Formerly Known As "True Crime: Hong Kong") Catch All

Hey all, I have Sleeping Dogs on the 360 but never played it. The definitive edition is currently on sale on the Xbox One for $15. Do you think it's worth shelling out the cash for an upgraded version with all of the DLC?

It also looks so much better, so yes. I loved playing through it on the PS4.

Has anyone found a way of changing FOV on the PC version? I have the first version and want to like it, but I get queasy before too long. Maybe I'll have to try it on the kids' PS4 but I hate buying something I already have.

I played on PC so not sure how much graphics difference there is between the 360 and the One, but with the DLC, I never really bothered with any of it except a couple totally cosmetic items. There are items in the DLC packs that can make you Wei overpowered and kill the fun.

Either way you decide to play it though, definitely play it. It's such a super good game. Was in my top two the year I played it.

Depends on whether the the Zodiac Tournament and Nightmare on North Point DLCs are included or if it's just the cosmetic stuff. Those two DLCs are amazing and very fun.

Having played both the original (with DLC) and the remastered version... yes, I'd get the upgrade. Besides looks (which alone I'd say didn't merit the upgrade), there is some great DLC story/extras (like the Zodiac Tournament and Nightmare In North Point mentioned by maverickz) worth extra money. Plus some very fun extra costumes and vehicles.

As Infyrnos points out, some of the extra costumes and weapons in the DLC are overpowered. However, the way they've been integrated is great. Some of them have to be purchased, with sufficiently high prices that you can't afford them until they are more balanced. Some of the DLC extra missions only "open up" later in the remastered campaign, and you need to do those missions to unlock other extras. So, unlike buying the DLC extras and immediately getting something that might be over/underpowered, it is instead introduced in places that make sense.

That does sound like an improvement, since some of the DLC were a bit ridiculous, like the one that hands you a chunk of cash for completing the tutorial, or just gives you a bunch of mission points that erases the cop/triad balance.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I'll be picking up the definitive edition this weekend and will hopefully dig into it soon!

edit: accidental miss post I the wrong thread. Sorry.

@acetate3 Nice portrait. Boards Of Canada are a great listen while gaming.

Hearthstone, because I'm back, baby! (I got burnt out for about 6 weeks) And Don't Starve. I will be playing both on my iPad 4 , which apparently is being phased out by Apple. I have a feeling that iPad devs that are interested in making money will still support it, though.

Best new DLC of the Definitive Edition!

Oh yeah, the "shortcut" DLCs aren't included.

Why don't you have a pork bun in your hand?

So I started playing a bit of this game in the past few days and came across this lady who wanted her car driven into the harbor for insurance money, so I said "okay" and went to get her car. On entering, the mission instructions popped up with "try to do as little damage to the car as possible."

"Oooohhhh you don't know me very well at all!" was the first thought running through my mind. The moment I got Wei's motorcycle earlier and starting to ride it, I'd crashed into nearly everything, so I figured this lady's car was doomed long before getting to the harbor.

(I actually did manage to get it to the harbor in one piece!)

Then a bit later, this other man suddenly needed Wei as a getaway driver, and when I got the message to get out of there, I jumped into the car and sped off. A few seconds later, I received a "mission failed" message. Apparently, I'd forgotten to let the other guy get into the car too!

Then after restarting, I did make sure he got into the car and then very soon afterwards, crashed into the corner of a building and had to ram through a few police cars that were trying to block me and shoot at me while I was trying to figure out how to back up while turning in the right direction. Somehow that happened an we escaped!

On a good note, I've run over only three pedestrians during this whole process, so I suppose they're mostly pretty good at leaping out of the way.

I'm terrible at driving in games. The amount of damage and destruction I caused playing Sleeping Dogs was truly frightening. You know those missions in which you need to find a car and take it back to whoever to get some money? The cars were always so damaged I barely got any money for them. Still, a super fun game .

Video game cars are ridiculously hard to drive sensibly, in general.

I highly suggest diving back into this amazing game if you have time and a spare buck or key. I own it on I think everything and my toaster but for some reason I just bought on PS4 as well. I played a bunch but never finished this game back in the day. I have always wanted to get back to it. I finally am and it is a solid game still by today's standard. A few quicktime events but based on fighting that makes sense. Not like the annoying ones of 2013 style.

If you need a cheap wild ride dive back in, maybe we can compete!

It's a really good game, for sure. And there's some features, like time competition with friends, that are missing from a ton of newer games that would benefit from that sort of thing.

Yep. Personally I enjoyed it more than GTA.

Fanatical has it for under $3 or so at the moment. I remember enjoying it a lot and need to take another stroll on those streets sometime soon.

I was thinking this the other day. It's everything GTA 3 attempted but didn't succeed in. It helps not having bro calls every 2 minutes.

I loved the Total Crime series before and this being the successor brings back nostalgia.

On top of that, it's a really fun game.

The game has indeed aged well. I replayed it just last year and had a blast. I feel like the Definitive Edition did a great job of integrating what had been DLC in a balanced way.

I realize it's subjective, but it also hits a difficulty "sweeet spot" for me, being challenging without frustrating.

GTA has always been unsure whether it wants to be "SERIOUS SATIRE!!1!1!!1!" or a string of violence porn interlaced with scatalogical jokes. So, it ends up failing at getting either tone right. Also, my God, Rockstar and story pacing... they always have tedious third acts that drag on way too long... They might create sandbox technical marvels, but never figured out how to put a good story in them.

Sleeping Dogs does not get everything perfect, but it is a well-paced, tonally consistent, interesting story. And the central conceit (you're an undercover cop, not a psychopathic criminal) is satisfying for those who would like to play good guys, while still giving us story reasons for a little fun antisocial behavior.

I also love that picking up weapons has consequences. I always played GTA like a hoarder.. if the map had free ammo why would I ever use anything else?

I should probably re-install on PC and see if I can finally beat LobsterMobster's speed time. I can't recall what one it was, but I could never beat his time for driving at max speed without hitting something. One of those silly challenges.

I wish I had some folks to compete against. It is a fun side game to the game.

I fired it up, but suck because I was using mouse and keyboard and I have no clue what I'm doing.

Still, the Clean Driving record is the one that I've long been trying to beat that Lobster made. You have to do it on the highway at near max speed for it to trigger and stay that high.

Unlocked the Rico consume. Put it on. Couldn't figure out how to holster the pistol if that is even possible. Got tackled by a cop and cuffed. In the police station I wrestled a pistol from a cop and went on a shooting spree until I was killed. Waking up in the hospital I went on a punching spree and stole an ambulance. There then began my mission to set a clean driving score. When I realized that the ambulance slows down too much on the uphills to keep the streak going I drove off an overpass, crushing a pedestrian. Smashed a few gang members against a wall for funsies, and then stole a faster car. A few minutes later I was consistently hitting three minute times. Fun was had.

The Arrow-Down key holsters pistols if anyone else was struggling to find the right button!

I swear this is the second time I didn't notice the ability to switch the large map into Collectibles mode until I'm well into the mopping up phase.

So much easier than just using the minimal to scour every corner of the island.

I caught it early but it also doesn't signpost it well. You gain access to more and more as you gain Face.

Rolled the credits. Trying to decide if I want to try mopping up some of the achievements I missed but I'm pretty satisfied with my time in Hong Kong. Having played through the story twice now I do remember how trivial combat becomes once you figure out the counter/combo system.
The Social Servers seem to have been down for the past couple weeks, wondering if that's just me or if something got turned off.
