GWJFL 2005: Week 12

I have decided to stay in the league and just accept ESPN''s flaws and the fickle finger of fate that ESPN can be.

I feel your pain, Spy. Trust me, you''re not alone.

We tried to play again Grump, I could connect to other people in football (and Swampy in Baseball) but Bagga could not establish a connection to play although we both tried challenging the other.

Psycho and I are about to get our game in, right at the buzzer.

Thin_J can you go tonight? I can go around 7pm or later if you can make it.

I could if you''re still up now at this ungodly hour of 4am my time, 1am your time, but I wasn''t home until about a half an hour ago. If you''re still up and ya reply soon I''ll play, but I""ve got about ten minutes of waiting in me before I just fall asleep wherever I''m seated.

Psycho deserves a sportsmanship award. He really wasn''t in a mood to play, and with those damn Browns, I don''t blame him. He left his PSP alone for a while so we could squeeze in our game. I can imagine that being hard to do.

I just want to say to Psycho, on one long run that went for a TD, I let go of the stick too early and Freddie T did the little ""taunt"" deal. I didn''t mean to! The snow covered the goal line and I misjudged it.

Anyway, we pounded out the game and kept the clock running to make it as short as possible. Psycho no doubt resumed Metal Gear Acid in peace afterwards.

Dammit people, it''s messages like this that make me think you might actually be interested in trying to play your games and so incite me to keep granting you extensions (this is the competitive league, right?) ad nauseum. Stric/Thin, what''s the earliest you can get your game played? If it''s not going to be soon, please let me know and I''ll move the week forward but if possible, go ahead and get it played.

Thanks.

Yeah, and I could connect to a random asshat and play too... I think my router hates The Certis. Not sure what else it could be, as my setup has worked fine for weeks now.

I had issues with both games when I played Certis - not as laggy the second time, but definitely noticeable to my aged eyes. You and I connected Bagga with little problem so it may be an ESPN thing or time of play issue (peak time etc...)

Wow, the week''s still going? Didn''t expect that to happen...

Sorry we couldn''t get our game played, Logan. If stupid ESPN wouldn''t have been down, it wouldn''t have been a problem. But, hey, you got your win, so there ya go.

What kind of router you packing Bagga?

Firm deadline is tonight. I''ve gotten soft this week. That being said, I reset your game Warlock/Logan, if you guys want to try to get it in. Full disclosure: If it doesn''t happen, I''ll have to give the win back to Logan but...

No sweat. Just give it back to Logan. If we''d planned ahead, we could have maybe set up a time today, but I just got back from LV, and now I''m off to see Sin City. No big.

Hopefully Fletch pointed Bagga in the right direction for the super-secret firmware update only ESPN forum admins seem to know about. I''ve played almost all my games, this would be the first miss due to technical reasons and I''m in no position to eat a loss! Bagga, you want to try one more time tonight? I should be available after 8PM CST.

Thin_J,

If you can go within the next hour or two let me know and we can get this done. Otherwise I will be gone for the rest of the day. Let me know.

He basically told me ""it was the firmware"", but I haven''t updated it in a while and it''s been fine. It is the newest version available as well. We can try again tonight and I''ll continue messing with stuff, but I really don''t know what to do here.

I was out until about 5:30, so that''s a negative there. Real life has finally interfered the multiple times required for me to fudge a league game.

*sigh*

I suppose it had to happen sooner or later.

Your connection last week with Logan was just fine, too.

Certis is always the most difficult person to connect with on my end. I have some router scripts that I generally use just for playing against him (instead of mapping the outgoing XBLive data to random high-numbered ports, as is normal behind a router, I have it send the data back on the same ports, because it seems like his router just loses the packets otherwise).

Sometimes, however, even that fails to work. My guess is that there are a few factors at play. Next time I play him though, I am going to run a packet analyzer and figure out exactly WTF traffic incoming from him looks like. The last time we played, I planned on doing that, but sonofagun, the connection just worked that time.

So, it''s settled... it''s Certis'' fault.

I have a long and storied history of successful online games! I''m hard-wired to my router and everything is fully up to date. I blame Mephisto.

I blame my parents.

French Fried potatos!

You played a good game Legion. When I fumbled the ball back to you on my first play of the game I knew that last night would not be the night that my fortunes reversed. Good luck in the playoffs.

THAT was brutal. I felt bad for that one. I was like, ""dammit game, you don''t need to do that to Psycho!"".

League advanced to week 13.

Unplayed wins went to SD, IND, HOU, and NE.
