Official GWJ MLB2K5 League Interest/Signup Thread

PLEASE READ EVERYTHING.

With a lazy tip of the hat to Grumpicus for some of what you read below, Here are the rules for the proposed GWJ MLB 2K5 League.

1) We don't care how good you are just that you are dedicated to playing your games. This means that we expect you to be proactive in trying to get your games set up. Whether it be checking the weekly thread, sending PMs, or whatever it takes to make a "good faith" effort, when the new schedule goes up, people should coordinate their schedules earlier, not later.

2) You MUST use voice communication. Talking is not a necessity. It just needs to be available for a variety of reasons you all know.

3) Starting pitchers are starting pitchers. Make sure you know who is your starting rotation and who is your bullpen. When you go to your bullpen, you should select relief pitchers, be they middle relief, setup men, or your closer. Failure to abide by this rule will get you booted from the league.

4) Red Sox, Yankees, Cardinals and Cubs are banned from selection. I know that with this you all hate me. But much like in real-life baseball, certain teams have a significant talent pool over others. This is why the Montreal Expos are now in Washington D.C. And these four teams have huge talent pools. I will consider rescinding this rule if there are a significant number of torches and pitchforks at my cyber-door, demanding the teams be reinstated. But this league is about the fun.

5) The length of the season will be 16 games, and with that, the maximum number of players will be 16 as well. We can vary it by twos, if necessary so we can have 12, 14 or 16 teams, but 16 would be the maximum. Much like the football league, this will ensure than everyone gets to play everyone else at least once (More than one, if we have less than 16 teams).

6) If it is necessary to truncate players out of the league, it will be based purely on a first-come, first-serve basis. The game only supports an even number of players. Therefore if we have 13 (or 15, or 17) people signup, the last one to post would be left out; "˜Tis the only fair way. Of course, someone can give up their spot for someone else if they so wish.

So here's what you should do. Post your top 3 choices of teams

1) Team 1
2) Team 2
3) Team 3

If you want to change your choices, please edit your original post. If decide you don't really want the Washington Nationals as your first choice, please edit your post. Feel free to add new posts that contain commentary but please only post your 3 choices once.

I will try to give everyone their first choice but in the case of two people who both have the same first choice, the team will go to the player who is higher up in the draft order. To determine draft order, I will take everyone's name and draw them from a hat to determine the order. I will be fair. The only thing that I will purposefully do is give myself the final pick.

The league will, of course, be fun. I am hopeful those that are willing to play in the league will be able to maintain play. I do not anticipate having multiple leagues. Therefore, if you do not like the settings and there are not enough votes to change the settings, do not sign up. You are free, of course, to discuss the setting and we could augment them.

Nice work Highlander, way to take control!

1) Phillies
2) LA Dodgers
3) Toronto

I knew he was the right guy for the job. All hail Highlander! There can be only one!

NY Mets
Pittsburg Pirates
Cleveland Indians

I would have liked playing as the Sox, and playing against the Yankees <spits>, but I understand. Just because money has ruined MLB, it does not have to ruin our fun!!

I think I''ll finally activate my X-Box Live account. This is going to be for the X-Box, isn''t it? If it isn''t just ignore me.

1) Brewers
2) Royals
3) Braves

!) Braves
!!) Braves
!!!) Braves
!V) who are other teams in the league...put me down for the Yankees maybe for my wife...I dunno...

In truth, I''m totally indifferent to what team I am, but here''s three randomly chosen teams:

1)Pittsburgh Pirates
2)Toronto Blue Jays
3)Philly Phillies

I think you forgot to put a winking smiley in here somewhere, cause I know you read the whole post.

Ok...sorry man...take off the Yankees...put me down for the Red Sox as my fourth choice I mean, look at my football record man!!!

3) Starting pitchers are starting pitchers.

My fav rule btw!

I''m in.

1) Padres
2) Astros
3) Mets

Thanks Highlander!

1) Mets
2) Twins
3) Orioles

My irony meter just broke.

Since I''ve just gotten my Xbox Live to work, and I''m very excited about it... I''m in for the league. Here''s my top 3 choices:

1) Minnesota Twins
2) Cleveland Indians
3) Detroit Tigers

AL Central all the way baby!

When are we looking at starting?

We have 9 so far so I am hoping we can get up to at least 14 in the next few days. MY making the GWJFL3 playoofs kind of threw me off a bit cause I was not expecting to be in it. But I am sure Stric9 will beat me in Round One.

So maybe by next weekend. Plus, I bet a roster update comes out after the first week of the season starting, which is April 3, so I want to see if that happens.

Season length? I was hoping for 2 games against each opponent. Teh Certis thinks thats to long, and apparently you agree.

24 weeks is a long time. Now, I think 16 would be good, but if the majority of people that have signed up want 24 weeks, we can do that. If were to do 24 weeks, I don''t want to hear any complainin'' about how long the season is. Got it?

Don''t make me come over there.

So for those joining, voice your opinion on the length of season.

1. Mets
2.Angels
3.Tigers

I should really play a few games on Live before I commit to a 16 week season, but I suppose you can pretty much consider me in.

1) Indians
2) Athletics
3) Giants

1. Angels
2. Mets
3. Marlins

RE: Season Length

Just thinking out loud here. We could split the association up into two leagues of 7 teams apiece, and you play 2 games against every team in your league, and one interleague game against every team in the other league, for a nice middle-of-the-road total of 19 games. I could write the schedule if you don''t feel like undertaking such an effort Highlander.

Can we do that? That sounds pretty cool to me.

Well that would put us outside the auspices of of the 2K games league, unless we want to have two leagues (American and National) and no inter-league play (cause it sucks--sorry sanjuro) and then have the winner of the two team play off in each league play a 7 game world series outside the league setting?

It would need to be even teams in each league 8 and 8 or 6 and 6

That might actually be pretty cool.

I am pretty sure the game does not allow for divisions in the league./ Maybe next years?

If we do that, and I am not terribly opposed, it will fook the stats and make it more likely the league will not make it through to the playoffs.

Did you see my post swampy? What do you think of that?

Besides, stats aren''t really kept in the post season in baseball

I think that is a nice idea. I know I''d be willing to give it a shot.

I''ll need a second commisoner for the other league ...

Volunteers?

If you can split, that would work, but seeing how football had a tough time with leagues making the 16 week season, I suggest you go with each team playing each other team once (a 13ish week season) / then we playoff, etc - AND, we can do it all over again.

I don''t even mind a 6-10 week starter season or tournament to get everyone some experience - it lets people commit by the pieces vice a 24 week marathon (tough for those of us who business travel a decent amount...and have 3 week summer vacations planned...lol)

Highlander - I''ll na'' be here next week, so if ye be the lad to start it next week, be puttin'' me wee name down, an'' I''ll be joinin'' on the weekend of the next!

1.Ny Mets
2.Florida Marlins
3.Los Angeles Angels

Oooh, me too!

1. Tigers
2. Seriously, is anyone else picking the Tigers for their first pick?
3. Honestly.

After losing 1-0 on a passed ball in 13 innings last night against Certis, maybe we should think about upping contact to 90 or even 95 or changing to a different pitching interface where variablility matters?

And /or maybe jacking down the ""perceived pitch speed"" setting?

Thoughts?
