GWJ OOTP League Thread

New file!

And just like that, April is over, and it's May! Any surprises so far?

Well, Boston leads the NL East with a 17-8 record, while Memphis is atop the SL East at 16-10. Both have 3 1/2+ game leads so... will it last?

Anything else of interest? Well, Francis Riley's off to another blistering start, while Phoenix has TWO pitchers with sub 1.20 ERAs so far. But that's about all for now.

As a OOTP 16 sidenote?

Y'know, for the longest time, I was one of those "the logos don't matter!" people. Or at least I tried to be.

I started up a new game, and all the logos and players and jerseys and everything were there...

It matters. I mean, I know someone could've modded it, but it matters. It just does.

The mods for that were always available and pretty much one or two clicks away.

True, though saving a few clicks is nice. And having all of the historical logos and jerseys and stuff is cool, I think that was more complicated than a few clicks. Another nifty thing, now if you download the 'Nickname' mod, your fictitious league nicknames will be chosen to match things that you have logs and such for, and you'll start out with nice-looking logos and jerseys with very little effort compared to what used to be required. I spend more time in fictional stuff, so I like that even more than the MLB logos.

I knew my starting pitching would not be good. But wow - avg ERA almost 6.00.

I should call the cops on Jim Phillips, he stole $30M from me.

Grr. Center Fielder playing well, so of course he's out for the rest of the season.

Yup. Basically, I have to do less now.

Well, 5 games under .500. Awesome. So much for letting the AI run lineups, etc. Time to shake things up. Maybe.

New file!

We're so bad up the middle I brought up this guy.

In one week he's already caused an error. You're fired!

Well, not really. Just try and get a couple more hits please.

Hey all!

I'm sorry, I forgot to mention I was in New Orleans from Friday to today, so no file went up Friday! My bad.

Remember, the Amateur Draft Pool has been released! You can find it under League Info > Draft Pool

Unfortunately, due to the nature of the draft, it's generally a LOT easier to let the AI handle the drafting, unless you've got the #1 pick.

Anyway, new file!

... Guess the AI traded all my top picks away. Boooooo, AI, boooooo.

Well, in-game it's May 31st, but for the sake of this post, let's say it's June already. Two months in, and this is shaping up to be a very interesting season.

Boston sits atop the NL East with the league's best record at 32-19. Francis Riley is pitching like a golden god yet again, he's on pace for 350 K's and 13 walks this season. Meanwhile, Brooklyn's in the #2 spot, just 4 games back, with Philly just a game behind them.

The NL West is a logjam right now, with five teams within 3 games of the top spot. Buffalo tops the division by just a half-game over San Francisco, of all teams, but Portland and Vancouver are just a game behind, with Denver 3 games back.

At 30-21, New Orleans is the class of the SL East, with Memphis and Richmond just three games back.

And in the SL West, Las Vegas and San Diego are tied for the top spot, with Phoenix and LA 2 and 2 1/2 games back, respectively.

Any other notes? Brian Burke is back to his old form, he's batting a blistering .447. Phoenix's Kevin MacCririe has a astonishing 1.51 ERA that cannot possibly last, and Francis Riley struck out a league-high sixteen batters against Detroit earlier in May. So yeah, he's very, very good.

Riley and Burke can burn in a fire.

I am surprised to be hangin' in there.

He will hold onto that 1.51 ERA as long as I keep pumping him full of steroids.

Well, Baltimore stopped the bleeding and has gotten back to being the 6-4 team that we expected. Our starting pitchers are still giving up way too many hits and allowing too many runs, but part of that is the defense. Hopefully the return of Jason Pitts (straight from injury, I might add, we need the defense) and that other guy I brought up will solidify up the middle.

Also, SP Abreu has been sent to the minors. He was just getting shelled. Time to send him down and see if he can turn it around. Feel free to pick him up on waivers, people.

Once again, I'm looking to move 1B Toshiharu Hirata this season for current or future help. He's leading ALL PLAYERS with 18 HR this season at age 27, and he's super cost efficient at $2.4m. Looking forward he has two more arbitration years and his current demands for an extension are a modest 1-year $3.6m.

In return I'll need young upside players or a willingness to eat bad contracts or some combination of both. My bad contracts are Martin Perez at $18.6 this season and next, and Dale Richards who is $17.1 this season and next he has a $18m vesting clause that I'm 90% sure won't vest (games started is the criteria, he's on a strict no-start policy. But he's a great reliever!)

New file! Lil' late, but still! New!

New file! By the way. I did just one day, so everyone has until tonight to set up their draft.

I'm gonna pick a kicker in the first round just to mess with y'all.

Just kidding. Everyone knows RBs get taken first.

They did this year. lol

New file! The draft is over!

Come on AI, stop drafting players that are impossible to sign. Seriously!

There is a thing that is new today! Some say... it is a file!

New File!

Short sim, as now begins the International FA signing period!
