Grand Theft Auto V

Have you tried using GeForce Experience to automagically set your settings?

I've got a 660 TI, and have no problems whatsoever (with framerate/stuttering/etc) when using the default suggestion from Experience.

Been playing the absolute crap outta this game for the past couple weeks. There is so much content, it's awesome. Need more GWJers to do heists, though! Hit me up on Rockstar if you're interested - my nick is czaeba there.

Yeah, I dunno what the deal is. During the stuttering I am alt-tabbing to look at utilization on Resource Monitor and Afterburner. The CPU/GPU/RAM/VRAM do not seem to be the culprit rather the hard disk. I have the game installed on the same drive as my OS, so I am wondering if that is making a difference somehow. It seems to be worse around lots of cops, and when I look it seems it could be audio related. I tried the CD quality tip someone put on Reddit a few days ago, but again tonight, there were times where it was a slide show where I would ahve 1-2 second pauses.

I'm in the same boat as you. Sunk a good 4 hours into GTA Online last night and it was a blast. I'd be down for some heists in the near future. My Social Club id is mr_n00b, hit me up!

Yeah I've been playing online on PC and it's a lot of fun. Still low level because I've been short on gaming time recently (and because I've been doing a lot of racing, which is a terrible way to level unless you can manage to win every time), but friend me up.

Locking me down so that I can only have 3 garages/apartments is driving me nuts. I want to own it all, every vehicle, every garage. Why lock me down to up to 30 vehicle slots?

Because the last one locked you down to like 8!

My assumption is that there is some sort of limitation on how much data they can store when it comes to you owning vehicles and all of the potential mod combinations. But man do I want to be able to be out and say "Oh I want to buy this sh*tty little 2 car garage in Blaine County because reasons." and now have to worry about the min/max side of getting the most storage out of my limited 3 properties.

so is this worth 60 bucks?

the last time I spent 60 bucks on a new release was bioshock infinite (well worth it)

I'm tempted.... very tempted.

I just completed the single player campaign and it was a good time. I've dabbled a little in MP and it seems like it has promise but I don't know how much fun it will be playing solo with randoms.

I think this is one of the better values for $60 I've played recently. Story mode is fairly long, and multi has the potential to be a lot of fun. Personally, I don't expect I'll finish story mode however. It's cool, but I'm really into multiplayer games these days--after a while, solo games start to feel kinda... empty.

The extent of my unpleasant experience with randoms so far has been just losing matches horribly because I'm low-level and so have poor stats and off-the-shelf cars to race with. Haven't run into anyone being a jerk yet. It seems like it would be easy enough to switch servers even if this happened anyway. I am glad I did the preorder with the cash bonus though. Being able to buy an apartment and a car right at the start was nice. Though I've heard that the trainer works with multi...

I would say if there is any game that is worth full price, this one is it.

It has everything. Want some ultraviolence? Obviously this is your game. Run around on violent missions, or run around killing people (and getting killed) online. Hold up a liquor store using your microphone to yell at the clerk to move faster (it works!). Tired of violence? Play darts, arm wrestle, golf a round, play tennis. It's so beautiful you'll have fun just going for a drive or flying around. Want some tactical team-based gameplay? Heists are absolutely brilliant. Most fun cooperative online game I've played since Portal 2. I'm only around halfway through the single player and I'm totally addicted to the multiplayer, even though there have been some connection issues here and there, and I'd say this is one of the best games ever made.

If you want to race, I would recommend starting your own race and inviting people and turn custom cars off. That way everyone has their choice of the same cars and it's a fair playing field. Otherwise I wouldn't bother with a race with custom cars until you can improve your own, because you'll have no chance.

I'd also recommend buying some of the weapons on the right wall in AmmuNation as they don't have level restrictions. You'll want either the Special Carbine or Bullpup Rifle. That will be your weapon of choice 90% of the time.

Ugh I didn't know custom cars was an option that could be turned off. I foresee myself winning a lot more races in the near future.

I'm no expert, but I'd recommend people start with the Special Carbine for missions and heists, and the micro SMG for shooting while driving.

After that the hunter's rifle is a passable sniper rilfe until you get to level 30-odd when the real sniper unlocks.

And for shooting pesky helicopters/planes you can't go wrong with the rocket launcher.

Another trick to getting weapons online before you level up to the point you can buy them is to play survival mode - the weapons you pick up will remain with you once you go back into free mode (unless they've changed that recently). You can catch a whole lot of people by surprise if you're level 20 with a minigun.

I've had a minigun in Survival, but it didn't stay with me. :/

Perhaps a dumb question but I hope you'll indulge as I'm fairly new to PC. There is a digital key for sale on g2a for GTA V that directs you to redeem key at Rockstar to download client. I'd prefer it on Steam. I'm assuming if I redeem the key on rockstar then the game is standalone rather than directing me back to Steam to download. Fair assumption?

Thank you.

Yep. I got it from GMG and they ended up giving me a Rockstar product key. It took finding a Reddit thread to figure out how to download the game. In short, GTAV has a launcher app that does the downloading for you, kind of like an MMO.

Urgh, I meant IRL friends!

I am currently playing with IRL friends so far, and have a blast. Tho, they told me know their hypes is waving off.

If you guys see me online, send me a tell on steam to see if I'm free. I do like to play coop or do races.

It's OK. You don't have to explain what you meant to people who aren't even real.

On the other hand, you may want to see a psychologist regarding all these imaginary people you keep taking to!

@officialJaden: How Can *Legion*'s Words Be Real If He Is Not Real?

That reminds me of a few nightmares I had in my childhood.

Someone needs to make a Maximum Overdrive mod.

It really is like a nightmare. Watching it made my anxiety skyrocket. But it is too amazing to watch, so I had to share.

I have to hand it to Rockstar for embracing the craziness that freeplay can be. I was 100% uninterested in joining in with any of the shenanigans, but the daily objectives forced me to at least give it a try. I was doing dailies last night, and it ended up turning into one of my best experiences in the game.

After finishing our heist, I checked my dailies and saw that I needed to steal a vehicle from the army base. On the way, I was being taunted (via clown horn) by a really high level player (above 200). After nabbing my jet, it was onto my next mission - escaping a 3 star rating. I went out of passive mode to take out the police helicopters complicating my life when Mr. 200 appeared in his own jet, locking and launching missiles almost as soon as I went active. I was able to ditch the jet just in time to see it blow up, then watch the wreck hit and destroy him on my way down. After a little happy dance, I went on to shake my 4 stars. Two dailies down. Next up: call a mugger on another player.

I decided that Mr. 200 was the obvious choice, and the mugger showed up just as the guy zipped up in his super car. I was sitting in my armored car, and lost it when my mugger pulled him from his car, took 10K, stole his car and zipped off. I then ran him over with my car and nearly crashed myself due to tears in my eyes. At that point, someone (couldn't imagine whom) put a bounty on me, called a mugger, and sent mercenaries after me. Not only did I avoid the mugger and mercenaries, but I lasted long enough to collect the bounty myself (and get a nice achievement). None of this would have happened if Rockstar hadn't provided me with a list of challenges to get me out of my comfort zone. What a great evening.

I wasn't aware of the dailies. Now that I'm done with Witcher 2 it sounds like time to get back into GTA.

Yeah, press m, and you'll get the tab for it. Give you 25k$ and 3k rep. Do it for a week straight, you get a bonus. Do it for 1 month, get a crazy bonus. It's the MMO way to let players enjoy something new...
