Tempting but that might be too big for my desk. Any particular reason you didn't like it?

I moved up to the full RGB version

It's definitely too big for my keyboard drawer.

If you were put off with all the soldering on the old Ergodox the new Ergodox Infinity comes with all the surface mount components pre-soldered. You just have to solder in the switches of your choice and put the keycaps on. There's about to be a new Massdrop shortly, looks like the minimum price will be $199. Which makes it about $70 more expensive than the regular ergodox kit.

Ordered the CODE Keyboard, tenkeyless with the MX Clears, to be my new work keyboard.

I'm pretty happy with the CODE Keyboard so far. I seem to be fairly heavy-fingered, as I bottomed the sh*t out of keys on my Leopold with the Brown switches (more recently added O-rings to that board, definitely helped). So the added stiffness of the Clear switches on the CODE is working well for me, though I still find I bottom out plenty if I don't intentionally type with a lighter touch.

Only downside I have so far is the sharpness of the corner on the board's bottom left. My typing hand position isn't exactly what you would call Mavis Beacon approved, and I feel that corner poke into my hand, whereas I didn't ever notice any poking on my Leopold (probably because the corner is very rounded on that one). So that's a little annoying, though the poking may be prompting my hands into a better position, so there's that.

I really appreciate the CODE's approach to media keys - optionally turning the Menu key into a Fn key for media keys in the Home/PgUp key block. It's aligned so that you hold Menu with your thumb and comfortably reach the media keys with your fingers. Very well thought out.

Plus, I like backlighting, and the simple white backlighting matches the MacBook Pro that I have this plugged into.

So glad you are liking it.

New job means a new computer for me. Since all the devs run Macs, I need something to get me away from that terrible keyboard layout (it's just not comfy for me).

So I bit the bullet and ordered an open-boxed tenkeyless CODE keyboard with MX Clears. Saved $20, and also went for the wrist rest.

Not sure when it will show up, but I'm really looking forward to it.

So what is the big deal with all the tenkeyless keyboards these days? Is it just about the smaller footprint? It seems like I might miss the grid for certain games and the occasional Excel doc.

Personal preference. I generally use a 13" laptop so the 10key is something I know I can live without. Also, the smaller footprint is nice for toting it around.

Totally this. I can't imagine having a keyboard without one though, it's like a mini-security blanket.

More desk space for something useful. Dedicating that much real estate for completely redundant keys seems rather pointless IMO. If I were an accountant like my mother is, then yeah, that numpad would get a ton of use. But I'm not, and the normal numbers are comfortably reachable from home row, so a numpad that I have to move my hand over to reach seems unproductive.

Also, for my gaming PC setup, I use a left-hand gamepad keyboard (like the G13 or Nostromo), so not having that tenkey eating up space makes it a lot more comfortable to arrange my left-hand pad next to my keyboard, and not having to reach my left arm way off to the side.

Maybe that is just it. I always feel like I'm missing something when using a laptop keyboard but it could more perception than function. Habits make me look to the 10key when punching in numbers.

After years of working in retail, I can enter numbers exponentially faster using a 10key than with the numbers at the top. My work keyboard is one of those little wireless Apple keyboards that's basically a laptop keyboard on your desk. Not only do I hate the little laptop keys on it, and the lack of home, end, and delete keys, but the lack of a 10key is the real killer.

I use the number keys for communications binds. Team chat, game chat, squad chat, etc. Then I also bind my PTT key over there, and emulate it with a USB foot pedal, since those keys aren't used much in games.

But I do enough spreadsheet work that I'd never give them up anyway.

I go tenkeyless. I have a USB numpad that just stays pushed out of the way until the moments I need it.

The Logitech G710+ is on sale for $80 on Amazon right now. That made my decision a little easier.

My keyboard bit the dust today - just stopped working out of the blue. The warranty expired two weeks ago.

After bad experience with a mouse and now a third keyboard, I think I've finally learned my lesson. No more Razer products for me.

The Logitech G710+ looks perfect for me, but those stupid wings on the side might make it too wide for my keyboard tray. Anyone know of another mechanical keyboard with similar features that is under 20 inches wide? Laptop-style is not an option for me, since I use the keypad a lot.

Also I don't want a Corsair keyboard because I'm pretty sure I would find the contoured WASD and number keys annoying.

The contoured keys are optional. They come with regular caps for all those keys too.

That's good to know, thanks!

Cough Cough.... Seriously... Cough.

I think I mentioned this earlier. I bought their XBOX360 controller and it started off awesome and comfortable and within a year it had literally disintegrated, never buying anything Razer again.

Sorry, I'm pretty sure that's too wide for my keyboard tray. The BlackWidow Ultimate specs say it is 18.7 inches wide, and it barely fits in my tray. Newegg says the K95 is 19.76 inches wide.

It's a pity, too, because based on the product description, the K95 looks awesome.

As an FYI, I checked both the standard and 10keyless version of the Code keyboard and they are 17.5 inches and just under 15 inches, respectively.

Arise, dormant thread!

Can anyone talk me out of picking up a Corsair K70 for ~$90 on Amazon today? I have wanted a mech, specifically one with Cherry MX Blues, for some time now. I like the look of the Corsair and don't really have a need for macro keys, and the price is in my wheelhouse.

The only con that I see right now is that this is last year's model, and the backlight is red only (those RGB boards look really nice, but $$$$).

Thoughts?

It says 2016 model. I picked it up. I have a logitech with brown but I find them too loud / clicky when gaming.

Edit: Nevermind. I picked up the 2016 K70 Cherry Red yesterday. Do you have a link for the $90 K90? I can't seem to find it.

I keep telling you guys to go with the classics:

Nothing beats it. Nothing.

Apologies, it was the K70. I fixed the original post. The 2016 model is $109, the older one is $90.

Here's the link.

Heheheh, I have four.

Oh weird. It's too bad that they are offering the new Red for the same price as the old Blue. I'm not even sure if there is much of a difference though (between the 2016 & older model).

Yeah. They are also offering last year's model with blue LED and Red switches for $109. Odd.
