GWJ MLB2K5 Settings Discussion

Well, one of the football leagues is about to head into the playoff, so I think its time to have a serious discussion about the American Pastime and the league we want to set up.

If no one else is interested, I would be happy to serve as commissioner. But first, a discussion of settings must take place.

To start us off I am going to post what I think the settings should be.

Number of players "…"…"…8 or 12 would probably be sufficient
Intervals"…"…"…"…"…"…"…"…..7 days
Season "…"…"…"…"…"…"…"…"…16 or 24
Difficulty "…"…"…"…"…"…"…"…Pro
Number of playoff teams "…...4
Playoff Series "…"…"…"…"…"….3 Games
Playoff interval "…"…"…"…"…..5 days

SlamZone"…"…"…"…"…"…"…....OFF
BaseBurner"…"…"…"…"…"…"….ON
SpeedBoost"…"…"…"…"…"…"….ON

SLIDERS
Injuries"…"…"…"…"…"…"….10
Power"…"…"…"…"…"…"…"…50
Contact"…"…"…"…"…"…..85
Bunt Assist "…"…"…"….60 (Default is 70)
Baserunner Speed .85
Steal Success "…"…..50 (Default is 60)
Catcher Errors "…"…..5 (Default is 15, but I think that causes WAY to many E2s)
Infield Errors "…"…"…"…10 (Default is 15)
Outfield Errors "…"…"…10 (Default is 15)
Speed Burst Duration"…"…45
Speed Burst Eff"…"…"…"….30
Throw Power C"…"…"…"….65
Throw Power IF "…"…"…...70
Throw Power OF"…"…"…..60
Pitcher Variability"…"…"…40
Pitcher Fatigue "…"…"…"…50
Pitcher UI Speed "…"…"….55 (I think this is the interface speed)

I think the bad part of this game is that there will be discrepancies between teams. The Yankees, Red Sox, Cardinals and Cubs will have some big time talent. It may take not allowing people to use those teams to make a more level playing field. What would everyone feel to banning those teams from our league?

Pleas give your thoughts on these settings.

Considering I like Phili, I''m ok with that

I think the main sliders I want to play with is the Pitcher UI Speed and Variability. Right now it''s too easy to place ball right on the edge of the strike zone every time.

I vote All-Pro and no EQ.

(I don''t even own this game, nor will I later, but I ALWAYS vote All-Pro and no EQ )

I think it should the Level should be ALL Star. I also think SLAM ZONE should be left on. I know it is sometimes stupid and annoying but it keeps people from throwing balls all the time without it they can throw it anywhere. As for the avantages of playing with the Yankees and Redsox if you can pitch you can beat anyone and if need with trades you can build your team and you can become as good as them. I think the person who makes the league should has to pick his team first cause he has to to make the league. The rest you should do a draft put all the names in a hat and the order you pick is the order they pick there teams. This my opinion wich may nit be yours are anyone elses but ask around see what people think.

I''d agree on All-Star, but I''m flexible. I''m sure we''d get a number of 1-0, 2-1 games on All Star, but I''m OK with that. I don''t like Slam Zone, but maybe frankie is right and there is a point to it. All I know is I tried it in my first game, said ""this is stupid,"" and turned it off. I''d be all in favor of getting rid of some of the top teams. I can''t remember what it''s called exactly, but I''d also vote against having that ""mash the button to move your baserunners faster"" thing off. Baserunning is chaotic enough without dealing with that.

Pitcher Variability"…"…"…40
Pitcher Fatigue "…"…"…"…50
Pitcher UI Speed "…"…"….55 (I think this is the interface speed)

I want more Variability! Either 20 or 60, depending on what makes the pitches more varied.

Give the pitchers 10 points MORE endurance

Interface speed 75

Pro, NOT ALL-Star

Highlander for Comissioner, and Certis Ban stick to back him up!

I am a Red Sox fan. But I also like the Pirates and the Mets. I''d like to play the Sox, but I have also noticed I win more of my pickup games when I play them. So, I will gladly go along with the majority on that issue. Whatever makes the game more fun for everyone, and encourages more guys to join and COMMITT to the full season works for me.

Maybe we could have a rule that only the real casual players get those teams. Guys that won''t play as much pick-up, so they could still be competitive in the league. So that would rule me out, but I''m cool with that. The only thing I don''t like is people that would pick the best rated teams so they cvan win, regardless of allegiance.

I haven''t played the game enough to comment on the settings but if we''re gonna play with the sliders a lot I really hope the game does a better job at saving settings than the hockey one because having to remember all the settings and set them every time you practice is a god damn pain in the ass.

You guys do what you think is best but please think of the casual players!

Pitcher Variability"…"…"…40
What if we jack this up to 75?

Pitcher Fatigue "…"…"…"…50
Hmmmmm. I don''t know about pitching fatigue being 40. I think the pitchers do pretty well at 50. That''s the reason you have a bullpen.

Pitcher Interface Speed "…"…"….55
We could crank this to 70 or 75.

And we have two votes for All-Star and one for Pro. Now I will say that I like playing on All-Star, but I do want the league to be accessible by everyone who wants to play, especially if it means less people getting frustrated and quiting the league. That''s why I think we need to leave it at the Pro difficulty.

As far as SlamZone, I am not a big fan of it but I''ll go along with what everyone in the league wants to do.

NP on the fatigue. Just a thought

All-Star will shut out too many of the casual players, I am sure of that.

As for the variability and speed settings on the pitchers I''d like to test this with you the next time we play (after our GWJFL 2005 league game?)

I fiddled with it last night. Increasing the speed definately makes it more difficult to pitch. And I got to experience my firt lag game last night. When I would go to pitch, it seemed the computer thought I had pushed the button twice instead of the once that I did push it. It was frustrating for a while.

I experienced that lag thing as well while playing Swampy but I thought I was in fault. I''m too hard on myself.

Our game ended 2 - 1 on the Pro setting. All-Star my ___.

On my side it seemed we only experienced lag on 2 or 3 pitches all game, Greenie.

I hope my tutoring was helpful. Nice comeback.

Yeah thanks buddy! It sure was helpful, and a lot of fun too.

The fact that you all understand the above really is a statement to the ''get a life'' motif!

I mean wtf... I say play the damn game - sign me up coach for my Braves and lets start playing!!!

(note - certis plays spy this week in playoff football - in the interest of helping my brother in arms in that game, I shall work basic psyops on my winnipeg comrade...sTaRTinG NoW!!! Is thAt ok? with you all?? ya Nkow?!...?) <trust me...this stuff works on he who wins too many games as the PaTrIOt3...> )

Edit - !!!!!!!!!!!! Go Spy !!!!!!!!!!!!

After playing for a while, I totally agree with knocking the error frequency down a couple of notches. Too many errors on routine plays for big league ball with the default settings.

Pitching settings, I need more time to figure those out.
