Ah, here it is. Those guys seem like they'd be a blast to hang around with.

The movie was the second season that sucked. [Runs from the internet.]

Seems legit. Joss can't make it through two seasons without killing fan favorites.

YOU BETTER RUN

Plus the first rule of flying.

Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take a boat in the air that you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turn of the worlds. Love keeps her in the air when she ought to fall down. Tells you she's hurting before she keels. Makes her a home.

Storm's getting worse.

And here I was really starting to think that Serenity was a terribly underrated movie.
There are so many moments of sheer movie magic that are lacking in a lot of modern non stop rollercoaster action films.

"you know what your sins is? it is pride" falling on the sword
River kicking ass in the bar
Mal and Jayne "you want to run this ship; yes; well you can't"
Mal shooting the alliance pilot of the downed ship that bombarded Haven
Shooting the cannon to start the reaver chase
The "they're not even changing course, come home to roost, target the reavers, somebody fire" space battle (one of if not the greatest space battles... certainly on par with the best like the star wars death star battle)
Slave outfit Leia with a bow Inara
River "my turn" kicking ass on the reavers
Kaylie "Hell with this. I wanna live."
Mal's brawl "I'm a fan of all 7, but right now I'm gonna go with rage"
Mal: "I'm not going to kill you. I'm going to grant you your greatest wish. I'm going to show you a world without sin."
River about to let loose on the alliance troops "Do we have a kill order?"
Mal and agent "patching up our hurt; I'd like to kill you myself; the Tam's are no longer a threat; I am no longer their man"
"Little albatross"

It'll clear soon enough. (we'll clear it soon enough?)
Is there another line in there:
"Seems like the albatross was good luck until someone went and killed it" between Mal and the agent?

I kid! I kid!

The movie was very enjoyable, it just felt noticeably different from the television show. Certain story threads from the series went off in a different direction than I expected and Mal was much darker in the film than the series. It just left me feeling even more bummed that the show didn't go on as a series. (Same as I feel about Star Trek btw.)

That's actually one of my favorite lines in everything ever. Kinda how I feel when I'm flying a spaceship in a game.

WHAT WAS THAT!?

As much as I love the whole movie, my favorite moment is the re-entry scene. The music...the ship...just perfect....

The music at the end was absolutely beautiful (from "patching our hurt" to "what was that?"). It helped deal with Wash's death a ton. While it is characteristic of Joss, I am almost mad he disrupted those tender scenes with the "what was that" and the piece of the ship falling off. It was funny and I know it is used to cut into the seriousness but I was really enjoying those emotional moments.

Agreed. Love the music from the movie.

I love the music from the show a biit more than the movie, but yeah, awesome stuff. I was lucky to meet the composers of both, and they're both wonderful guys.

Edit: This still gets me to this day. Written as a funeral song for a character as well as the show.

Coming as a surprise to absolutely no one, Con Man was 735% funded, raising $3.1 million.

Agree that these book-end the movie perfectly. The image of the ship turning over through the storm and then existing the atomo is so very hopeful for some reason.

Crossposted to the Castle Thread for funsies. Lots of familiar faces.

Yep, this is going to be great.

I found a new avatar. Thanks Sparhawk!

That is a lot of stuff.

I rewatched the series about 2 weeks ago. Still great. Still wish there was more.

any time

That first one is like the best thing ever. The best thing.

I love Firefly unconditionally, but I'm not really sure there should have been more. I mean, sure, there logically should have, but what would it have become? Joss Whedon has a bad habit of realizing that nobody has died in a while and then murdering characters at random. It ended before it could be bad. Buffy and Dollhouse both had REALLY strong starts and then sort of degenerated into convoluted plots with cardboard characters. I never watched Angel so I can't speak to it, but if Firefly had continued, maybe we'd be making jokes about how there was only really one season, since the others were bad.

Or maybe it'd have continued to be a goddamned masterpiece. Who knows! Food for thought.

Based on some of Joss's statements about upcoming episodes, I'm... actually kind of glad it ended where it did. The cop from the first episode coming back half-cyborged out seeking revenge... what? Right now, it's pretty damn near perfect for Primetime TV and a movie.

Yeah, it didn't have time to become sh*tty. Buffy had some sh*ttiness and Angel had some SERIOUS sh*ttiness, so yeah, let it exist in its little bubble of near-perfection.

They actually did that in the comics. It was...weird...

I can't get behind that argument. Just because something might start to decline doesn't mean that it shouldn't keep going. That's the kind of thinking that got it cancelled in the first place. I love Buffy and Angel, despite season 4 of both series. I'm sure I would have loved Firefly because of and in spite of its flaws.

Is that a space cat in your avatar pic, Veloxi?
