DM mode intrigues me the most..Not familiar with the developer though so I'm cautious.

They got a bad track record with these D&D games lately. Interested to see how they implement the rules but not super hopeful.

Yeah, it's been too long since we got a good D&D computer RPG. I'm interested, but not holding my breath.

It sounds like they're trying to combine Baldur's Gate and Neverwinter Nights. I know they're both set in the same are in Forgotten Realms but I was thinking of the look and campaign of BG with the ability to create your own campaigns ala NN.

This looks great! It is kinda looks along the lines of my wish for a fantasy based Mechcommander 2.
It is Baldur's Gate mainly, but while some major spells/skills are activated, it looks like there are auto-cast skills/spells that you can configure based on your class. Check out ray of frost, acid arrow and magic missile in the video below. This game can't come out soon enough!

Looks good, sounds terrible. Those voices, so bad. I'm pretty sure I won't be able to listen to that for long, so hopefully all the important stuff has a text option and enough audio customization options to turn down voice volume while leaving music and effects up.

I am an expert with playing with no sound and can tell you that every recent game I have played has subtitles and different sliders for voice, sfx and music.

I didn't listen to the voices but I'd wager they are place holder at this stage of the game's development.

This looks great. I am a little concerned about the voices for another reason...either they recorded A LOT of different voice work or this is a pregenerated party which might mean you can't create your own.

Well, that's the most horrifically awful attempt at a generic Scottish accent I've heard in quite a while. Ugh.

*and does that wizard character have a sterotypical "book nerd" lispy thing going on? o_0

"Could somebody heal me?"

I've been trying to find out more info and keep up with streams. I was looking for something closer to an updated/better NW-Nights game'; however this appears to be more ARPG/Dungeon Crawl like Neverwinter MMO/Daggerdale with added DM toolset. The abilities appear to be flavored closer to 4th Ed, in my opinion and so far the pace seems pretty fast, not quite as fast as Diablo, but pretty fast.

Perhaps its like a 4th Edition Infinity Engine game with no pause and a DM.

Pretty sure it is 5th edition. Where are you seeing there is no pause?

I am sure there will be a pause, but I mean more of the pace of the game that I've seen, it reminds me of playing BG, BG2, etc with out pause. Things happen fast. Perhaps a better comparison would be Divinity Original Sin in Real Time.

As for 5th edition, perhaps in some aspects, it is quite active ability driven. FWIW, I only saw level 6 Rogue game play I saw, there were abilities that reminded me more of 4th Edition, like the that makes you teleport behind an NPC for a sneak attack. They haven't show much from the player's perspective yet, hopefully Thursday they will. i guess how they handle cleric/wizard spells will give a better insight to how tactical or action-y the combat will be.

I purchased the 5pack and If anyone is interested, I have an extra Steam copy I will sell for $30. It says it is region locked but no details. FWIW, it was purchased in US. First reply, first served.

Edit: Claimed.

Cool! We should have a good group of folks playing when it releases later this month.
Can't wait...

I still need to prepurchase it. Would love to get in on some multiplayer or DM controlled.

Check your emails. Early Access starts today. I was able to preload last night.

No email for me =(

Unable to preorder till next Friday.

Kind of disappointing. You can't play the story. You can play a random dungeon, but solo is just asking to die. There are already mods out there with new dungeons etc... .

What do you mean, you can't play the story - because its meant for 4 players? Don't you have a party?

Yeah I heard its a pretty limited solo game.. in that you have to play through with 4 players to experience the full story.

My understanding is that story-mode is locked away until full release on September 29th. Makes sense, with an RPG there's always plenty to fix for that zero day patch. Also, I suspect they'd get a lot of flack for holding the story 'hostage' as a pre-order bonus. When I pull it up on Steam it's not marked as an early access game (I don't see any of the usual language, logos, or markings). I'm keenly interested in this, but highly suspect the story might be thin. If they do have a quality solo RPG in the mix then they've done a poor job of getting word out on that half of the game.

As a solo player should I pass on this then? I was really looking forward to it and I'm sad to hear it may be a pass. Boo

Play the Story option is grayed out in the menu. I didn't see a way to add ai party members but I didn't really look hard.

Solo play will be disabled until it is officially released on 9/29. "Head Start" is just for the DM stuff.

Press Release wrote:

Head Start will have three planned sessions, he adds. The first is scheduled for the weekend of September 11th through 13th and will be available only to members of the Design Council – those that pre-ordered one of the Limited Edition Collector’s or Campaign Collector’s packs. The second will run September 18th through 20th, and will be open to all pre-order customers. These first two sessions will focus on the Dungeon Master modes of Campaign Creation and Dungeon Crawl. In order to avoid spoilers, the Story Campaign will not be available at this time. The third session will run September 24th through the game’s release on September 29th and will once again feature the Dungeon Master modes for all pre-order customers while Design Council members will also have access to the Story Campaign. PC, Mac and Linux cross-platform play will be supported.

(Emphasis mine)

They need to fix the Fighter holding the sword in front of him permanently ASAP.. that looks so dumb that it will constantly annoy me.

Looks good - Im looking forward to some good Goodjer Coop play. I know the module community is already in full force on this one.

So the next early access started an hour ago.

Anyone else playing this weekend? I'll be on some experimenting with making characters, but anyone wants to do a dungeon or whatever just ping me.
