Solforge Catch-All

That's a new feature I haven't heard much about yet.
What could be next? Poison on the player?

There already is now, via the cavern serpent I think it's called. One of my new favorite cards in draft.

Totally missed that one...not sure if I like this mechanic. Time will tell. At least they try new things

Oh, and the killer bee. Forgot that one. Too easy to kill before it gets it's poison in, but it's permanent poison if it does. I should probably quit drafting it but I rather enjoy it.

Been a while since I had Spectromancer installed, but I seem to recall it being somewhat of a story. Certainly more than just a handful of matchups. This didn't feel like a campaign at all, really. Maybe add a cutscene between the individual fights to toss some of the Solforge lore at you? Though, to be honest, the story for Solforge is pretty damn thin. Not even as rich as the one for Infinity Wars.

Right, but they were saying prior to release it was going to be fairly small to start, so I probably had my expectations set fairly low. Story-wise, yeah it's thin but they don't even have flavor text on any of the cards, so I'm not terribly surprised by that either.

It has mobility too. I'm not sure how easy it is for Tempys to make creatures aggressive when they're brought into play, but that would be a good combo if it's easy to pull off.

Cavern Serpent is bugged I used it and the poison just disappears....

Hmmm... I think the way it's supposed to work is that the poison is only available as long as the creature is in play. Did your Serpent die?

Ah of course, same as with the Barrier Soldier. My brain is not functioning today. Thanks

So I finally put my free draft coupon to good use and did a casual draft. I don't know if they rebalanced the pool or if I got lucky, but my Replace deck finally had enough pieces to be viable. Usually I get one or two cards with replace in the beginning and then no more show up. This time I had 6 and then 4 guys that give perks when they're replaced. I went 3-0 before running into an Everflame Phoenix at the end. That card is pretty unfair. 22 base power, mobility 2, and it keeps coming back! Awesome!

Still, it was fun doing a draft and not feeling like I was being slapped in the face for trying.

There, finally did the elite drafts and now I'm dropping the game. There is just way too much random and I really don't like luck based games. I enjoy it when the games are tight, but just get too frustrated and occasionally even angry at ridiculous bad draw/good opponent draw combinations, it'll be better for my overall happiness to quit. And this isn't a decision just based on the elite drafts, I actually did above average overall in them, though the 3rd draft went exactly the way so many games do with simply not drawing any of the key deck parts in pl1; I had decided a week or so ago that these would be the end of SolForge for me.

I do have a decent collection of shareable cards mostly from the earliest days including playsets of most legendaries released through the forgeborn cycle (not sure on set names, the one with cercee, oros, etc, that's when I started to not play the game as much). Probably anything you want heroic or under I've got 3 of though more recent stuff won't be shareable. I always forged extras into silver so for the most part I only have 3 of everything but I'm going to give it all away so I'm not tempted to come back. Anyone interested in some free cards let me know in here in the next few days; after that I'm going to unsubscribe so as not to be tempted by shiny new cards.

I'm interested and PM sent. Did you want folks to PM?

That'll work as well assuming I remember to check them.

Have to say I agree with you, Outlandish. This is what drove me out of M:tG too, back in the day. If the RNG went against you, it didn't matter how well you played, how well you built the deck or how your opponent played, you were going to lose. Pity, but that is the nature of TCGs/CCGs. Not sure they can ever break the problem, though Infinity Wars had some good features to help lessen the impact.

Stuff like tutor and draw cards can help mitigate that, unfortunately in M:tG those cards are generally only found in the highest rarities. But even in something like Netrunner where you can get tutor and draw cards a lot easier, if you have a bad shuffle you're just sunk. That's just how card games work.

However, Solforge has an additional problem in that you can't keep cards across turns, but I could see them easily introducing cards to enable that like Puzzle Strike. I think we'll also see more Consistent keyword cards in the future and/or banishers, but I think right now with each expansion they're still just throwing ideas at the wall to see what sticks.

I think they will address it more as well. Just because they have to. If a good deck and an experienced player loses by pure dumb luck lots...that's what will get players to leave.
For now I still like it and take the occassional hit. I do swear and curse a bit when it happens and tend to play slower suddenly and start browsing a bit more lol
But I try to be nice and get it over with most of the time.

In case anyone missed it, they did release the Alloyin and Tempys mastery challenges. And man does Tempys cheat cheat cheat. Had to build a new deck just for that one.

They also released a Uterra challenge that will only be around for a week (4 or 5 days now). Reward is a Uterra gold chest. Mine was surprisingly useful, a legendary and 3 heroics I didn't have 3 of already, good stuff.

I almost missed that Uterra challenge. Got the Alt Art Thundersaur for it! And an Echowisp.

Tempys Challenge...wow, but I got it in the end lol
Dangit, that alt art is on my alt account I guess that's only fitting lol

Main account Alt Art Rootforged Avatar (meh) and Dysian Sludge.

I got an alt art Deepbranch Prowler out of the chest as well, pretty, not likely to ever use it.

As I'm getting ready to give away my cards I just found out you don't actually give them away, you really do "share" them. So while I can give a copy away, I still keep a copy it just becomes bound so it can't be shared more than once. This is very generous of them and if I'd realized that I'd have been sharing them ages ago. It's also insidious as any time I feel the temptation they're still going to be there, waiting...

Anyway, Thursday's the day I'm going to send out copies so if you want anything (after more extensive examination, it's basically anything from set 1; I have very few legendaries that can be shared that aren't set 1 as I only spent money on the game back then, been drafting off of disenchanted card silver since) let me know here or in PM in the next 24 hours or so.

Must say I like the changes to the standard Draft tournament. 3 tickets, you keep the cards you draft, and the payout at all levels is multiple boosters. With prize packs at the higher end. Not good for players with established libraries, great for players joining and needing to build libraries.

Same here. First I was getting a bit of a slighted feeling when I wanted to do a competitive draft. Noticed the name change and lack of cards to be kept.
Then noticed the casual draft being cheaper and you get to keep the cards. But you lose out on tickets/silver. Fair trade I think.

I haven't drafted since that change went through but it's a very welcome one. I suspect that they'll eventually bump the prize payout on the "competitive" draft since I don't think they did anything to offset the fact you don't get to keep your cards there and elite tickets probably aren't enough of a draw. I suspect they'll do that instead of decreasing the entry fee since I think the original philosophy was for people to be able to draft "for free" once a week.

That most recent update was a huge boon to casual players and new players. I'm really liking the new daily reward structure, especially because I picked up two Legendaries just from the login reward

I started paying a lot more attention to casual draft about 1-2 months ago. It's definitely a bit easier to go at least 2-2 in that queue than in the original queue. However, the prizes are structured that you only get back your entry cost if you manage to hit 4-0 (which is near impossible for me).

I often stick to NU decks in casual draft. Seems to get the most wins for me
More often 3-1, 2-2 at times and 4-0 happens enough to keep going a bit.

Sparhawk wrote:

That's because NU is dominant due to having some of the best synergies in the game. When you combine the faction that predominantly makes their big creatures bigger and the faction that makes your opponent's creatures smaller, you generally end up with a winning combination. Not to mention all the other synergies they have like Uterra's two-for-one creatures being excellent fodder for Nekrium's sacrifice cards, etc.

Alloyin's fast leveling and Tempy's burn focus just can't keep up.

It'd be really interesting to see how many top tier decks use a N or U core and splash any of the other factions.

I also wouldn't be surprised if they'll have to rebalance the factions by moving certain abilities around. I feel like Nekrium does way too much while Alloyin and Tempys do too little, but I could be wrong.

I got Wegu from my Uterra challenge. I'm pretty pleased with that

Now that's a very nice reward. Congrats

New cards today!

Spoiler roundup here

Also, I love the intro on the official blog post:

As the guy who has brought you such hits as Nethershriek, Rage of Kadras, and Wegu, I’m here to offer some new tools for guys to enjoy.

No wonder he "stays behind the scenes"!

Quite the surprise so quickly again !

Anyone else having trouble connecting?

Game is currently in maintenance while they apply the updates. If the SolForge reddit is to be believed, it looks like they're expecting the game to be back up around 8 PM EDT.

*Muses over the new 8 cards, reserves judgement* Did some draft tournaments looking to plug some gaps in the library, and got some nice cards. Several heroics I needed, including my first and second Zarox the Raging from the same draft. Nothing from the new 8, did get 2 legendaries out of all the boosters, sadly, Delphi and my 5th? 6th? Phoenix...

*Watches in amazement as his only Leyline Demon gets to Ambush not once but twice in the same draft game.*
