Cities: Skylines from Colossal Order

You can disable the tweet pop-up and sound, but can't get rid of the bird completely... yet.

Reddit also solved the Boston bombings, remember?

Good news: I still got the pre-order bonuses.
BAD NEWs: Can't download and play NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Heh. I pre-ordered for GMG this morning at work and got my code quickly.

But since I'm at work I can't activate the code on Steam so no pre-order bonuses for me!

OMG I am downloading now!!!!!!

Bonuses are attached to the key, right? Not the redemption time?

Only 1.9 gigs

RPS review is up, and quite favorable. Though I'm not sure I agree on his association of the game to SimCity 2013.

Skylines is a tinkerer’s delight, you see. Its tools are clear but flexible, its space is generous and it’s so far away from the rigid grids of citybuilders past. You can create streets and districts in whatever shapes you want, and you can even name those districts.

It's so silly how happy this makes me.

If you get the main menu turning to guacamole green immediately after it loads up, go to the game properties in Steam and turn off Steam Overlay.

Ha! The loading ticker is the little tweet bird flying in a circle, "Hi, BadKenny!"

Oh man, got some bad news according to Twitter: The servers are down.

Turns out theirs a giant bug in the server architecture rendering the game unplayable for users who try and connect. Colossal Order are working with Paradox to get the issue resolved and everyone back up and running as soon as possible. In the meantime Polygon has lowered their review score to reflect the current state of the game.

You can't fool me!

My dreams are shattered.

I downloaded and installed, but when I clicked PLAY, I kept getting an Unknown error. After some investigation, I realized I'm far from having the minimum requirements!

Time to upgrade my rig asap. Calling my guy right now. Going full enchilada. Hopefully he'll have my rig back by the end of the week. I can't possibly imagine going more than a few days with only my laptop, and my ps3.... oh man, I'm gonna be left with just a console, AAAGGGGHHHHH!!!!!!

That sucks, kexx.

Game is everything I wanted in a modern Simcity and is so far superior to that game. Great first impression! I love that you can make and name districts and even assign separate laws to them. So far color me impressed.

The idyllic little townlet of Rooksville. Classic grid style for easy navigation.

The district of Rooksville Heights just legalized recreational drug use, those little rebels.

Not much to see in Downtown Rooksville...yet.

Really? Guy at US Gamer said it ran fine on his 6 yr old rig.

Sorry Kexx. Actually the game is terrible, horrible even. It's so bad you should consider it divine providence that your PC can't run it.

Spoiler:

*uncrosses finger and returns to intensively play

Not done work yet, so I can't *really* dive in, but so far, the bit about not growing too fast turns out to be a good warning. You can easily spend all your money and get stuck without power for a while.

It's been years since I played a city sim so I decided to give this one a try after seeing some streamers play it. I never knew planning out roads could be so much fun (and DIFFICULT!). Every solution I come up with yields an even bigger traffic problem further down the line but the challenge is fun. Game seems pretty good so far.

I checked, and according to CanIrunit, these are my specs:

Im using the exact same CPU. It still has power. But I do have a GTX 970, SSD, and 8GB of ram...

Would you recommend then only upgrading the videocard? Because I talked to my PC guy, and he's budgeting a higher-end rig, but it's sounding quite pricey. I'm extremely ignorant in this PC parts thing. I don't know what's good/new/better/cheaper/etc.

How do I know how good my rig is? Like, how can I compare what I have to say, some other newer rigs out there, without having it be top of the line? Is there like a website out there that can auto scan my PC and tell me what I have?

I'm the dumbs!!!

kexx, your video card is 7 years old.

No need for a whole new rig, if your motherboard has a PCIe slot (ask your guy if you don't know). If so, just upgrade the video card and add another 4 GB or RAM, and you'll be good to go.

I think your VRAM is a big issue. Definitely get a new card with at least 2GB. This game is more demanding than the LP's would have you believe. I'm on a 1.5-yr-old laptop that's not top of the line, but usually very adequate. I'm getting around 30 fps @1080p on my very small city. That's with everything maxed except for tilt shift which kills it, just like Endless Legend did.

FWIW, my specs:
Core [email protected]
8GB RAM
GeForce 750M w/2GB VRAM

With the amount of simulation in this game, I have to believe that CPU is a substantial factor in performance--more so than your typical FPS. Probably one of my issues as well being at 2.4GHz.

Again, I'm on a laptop, so I suspect that steps things down a notch. I'm a little concerned how large or very large cities will perform on my machine.

You're on a 32bit OS, if it weren't for that you could probably get it to run. Maybe. Your GPU is still only about 50% as powerful as the min spec one.

Cities Skylines isn't showing up on Steam Workshop for me, for some reason.
