Portal 2 Catch-All

Late to the party on this, but I have been playing some this evening (just started on the turrets) and I am really enjoying it.
The puzzles are great, with just enough beard-stroking for me.

Yes please.

Looks pretty sweet

OK, I'll bite. What is this? A mod?

Yup.

Total conversion mod. Tells the story of a character they apparently wrote out of Portal 2

So, Portal Stories Mel is now available. Anyone play it yet? I'm gonna have a go at it tonight!

Played it a couple days back. Either the puzzles are a lot harder or I'm just out of the "I'm awesome at Portal" club. Come to think of it, I was never in that club to begin

So far I love it but found that it ramps up in difficulty rather quickly.

Yeeeesssss! I look forward to the difficulty. I was the kind of person that went and did all the minimum portal and speed challenges. I also had to get all the achievements too.

Loving Mel. I'm a fair ways through chapter 2.

Edit: Nevermind, just got to the part where it explains all that I had wrote in the spoiler below.

Spoiler:

The voice acting for Cave Johnson in Mel is just really off-putting to me. Maybe it's because I did a complete playthrough of Portal 2 to refresh my skills before I started. The accent just seems off. That, and the "pre-recorded messages" are a bit too specific to what's going on to actually be "pre-recorded". In Portal 2 the impression was that you were discovering the history of a place long dead and abandoned. In Mel I feel like I'm like a rat in a maze with Cave watching me from behind a camera.

Just doesn't feel right...

Spoiler:

The Cave Johnson impression is so off it is annoying. They could have skipped that with the initial narrator just saying something like "Welcome, Cave Johnson asked to get you orientated...". J.K.Simmons is just too good an actor with too recognisable a voice

Once you wake and the 2nd narrator (new personality core?) takes over it is much better, although the dialogue is so heavy handed about its jokes that it often spoils them. I get it, there is something untoward going on that you're trying to hide. You don't also need to end every half truth or lie with "oh yes that's err... what is happening, everything is normal" for me to notice, I have played Portal before

Finished Chapter 2! I only got stuck on one puzzle maybe midway through. Oddly, when I quit the other day and then loaded up the save later, the portal I needed was in the right place. Not sure how that happened. Maybe a bug? Anyways, that solved that puzzle. Really enjoying it, and I'm amazed there are 3 more chapters.

Somewhere in the middle of chapter 3 now in the more futuristic test chambers. The difficulty level has really ramped up. The last couple rooms have been real head scratchers - been playing in 10 minute increments, if nothing pops out at me after 10 minutes I'll take a break and come back later. Been stuck in my current room for 3 days now

Nice. I'll get back to Chapter 3 eventually.

Searching for a steam workshop thingy for Portal 2, it was mentioned on the Conference Call this year I think, it was a user made campaign, cant remember if single player or co-op, but folks said it was great.
Some kind steam user gifted me the PC version (i originally had it on PS3), so I'm now trying to dig it up because it sounded great.
Other vague things I recall was that it may have been voice acted and the voice actors may not have had the best grasp of english, eg, non native speaker. Anyways, hope someone can help!

Might be the released-on-Steam mod Portal Stories: Mel.

This sounds like the one, thank you!

Edit: And it's just above these posts on this very page of the thread, whoops.

Do you want to hear a Swedish choir sing Still Alive? You should since it's awesome.

Aww, you're killing me!

I'm an hour and change into it, and it's fricking great. Same comedic tone, same stellar puzzle quality. Tip top recommendation!

I must play it. Perhaps I’ll squeeze it in after Cookie Cutter.

Sweeeeet

This is a triumph!

Oh dang. Def gonna pop this on the steam deck after work!
