Cities: Skylines from Colossal Order

So you can disable the popups, and the bird will still be there in the middle of your screen staring at you and judging you?

Details, people. We need details, such as link to said forum post from the devs.

Ask and ye...yadda yadda yadda.

Dev post on Steam forum.

Another preview video.

I listened to that video, so thanks.

I continue to be cautiously optimistic.

The only thing missing so far from the previews, which I guess isn't a fault of the previewer, is the mid-long term game. I've seen numerous city-starts, and that all seems good so far, so I remain optimistic, but I've not seen much of the mid-late game, or spiralling crime or other happiness destruction, or even natural disasters (are they even in this game?).

I guess we'll find out in just over 2 weeks time. I hope they don't restrict reviewer access until too close to launch. I want to see more details, and soon.

Ditto!

If it holds up to scrutiny for a couple weeks after launch, I will absolutely pick this up.

Another preview video here.

I also found a list of all the PDX videos, most of which will have already been seen, but here it is anyway.

I decided to wait and see if the game is fun. The base game seems solid so far, but I know Paradox like dlcs a bit too much.

If someone plays the game, tell us more. I wanna see more than review video.

Nothing really new to report, but, new video:

There's also this forum thread of screenshots.

This is looking good...

Colossal Order are/were holding an AMA on reddit. probably finished by now, but I'm just about to start at the top - http://www.reddit.com/r/IAmA/comments/2x4mf9/we_are_colossal_order_the_team_behind_cities/

And not a single question asking if the annoying, fake twitter thing can be disabled.

That has already been answered.

I remember seeing someone claim that the dev or publisher made a comment about it, but i was hoping to get confirmation one way or the other during this AMA.

Yeah, it's not going away. Best hope is that it will be possible to move it to a corner.

I'm going to reserve judgement on 'Chirpy' until I actually get the game. It may not be as imposing and out of place as first thought.

Yeah, I've seen the gameplay videos. To be honest, I may not be buying the game until I know I can disable that dumb thing. The feature (feedback from citizens) is useful, but the bird is dumb and annoying.

I'm just gonna put a sticky note over top of where it is on the screen.

I honestly don't understand all of the bile being spewed at the Chriper. No one has played the game yet, and somehow it's been predetermined a pointless irritating eyesore based on a handful of videos. I'm willing to give the devs the benefit of the doubt until I play it myself.

Even then, if I'm not dealing with the likes of login issues, postage-stamp-sized cities, or shoddy citizen simulation I'll be pig-in-slop happy.

Perspective, people.

Yeah, Chirpy-Gate is a complete non-factor for me regarding the game.

Sense! On the internet! Wonders never cease.

For those of us who are sure they will be annoyed by the feature, someone at RPS linked me to this forum post by a Paradox staff member.

The change we have gone for is that you will now have an option to disable the sound and animation/pop up from Chirper. The bird will still stay on your screen, but you must click it to see the updates from your Cims.

For me, this is an acceptable compromise. Obviously, knowing the changing wants and needs of citizens is useful information, but I just wish they would've presented it in a way that wasn't so annoying and obtrusive.

That's the exact opposite of the solution I want. I know the updates from the citizens are useful - I want to see them. What I don't want is that stupid bird constantly sitting in the middle of my screen utterly destroying the illusion of swooping over a city and controlling it with my godlike powers.

Maybe somebody will figure out a way to change the blue bird into something.... less stand-out. Even being able to resize it and reposition it seems to be a good compromise. Guess we'll find out in just under two weeks!

Surely you've played video games in which part of the HUD includes the top of the screen and got so used to it after a short while, to the point where you didn't even notice it, or it didn't bother you.

For me, the annoying part (based on the several videos I've watched) is that the bird pops up messages literally every 5-10 seconds. Now that I know that I will be able to disable those pop-ups (and the accompanying sound), I know that there will be this static bird image on the screen, which is much easier to ignore.

Would I prefer that the bird wasn't there at all if I disable this piece of "artistic integrity" (dev's words)? Hell yes! But if this option is the best I can get at launch, then I'm willing to accept it, if the reviews confirm that the game isn't broken, because I really want to play a good, new, traditional city-builder.

Well, I was being sarcastic. Should've out the sarcasm tags on.

Maybe Ken has control issues. He is a cat, ya know?

Looks like tomorrow will see the embargo lifted on reviewers with preview copies. That should mean a deluge of information at best, repeated, but very pretty early cities that we've already seen at worst.

Either way, the more information the better.

That MOD preview may have sealed it for me.

I want to have my own map and try to make some of the goofy stuff that I used to do in Sim City 4. I love building cities in this type of game, but I love building cities in terrain that shouldn't have cities even more.
