Cities: Skylines from Colossal Order

To my knowledge there aren't any competitors for Skylines on the horizon, and I don't think that March/April are important months to target for their own sake, so unless they ran out of money and have to ship it's probably shipping because it's done.

I think they've had several games to practice on. Now is the time for a new franchise to arise.

My problem is that I'm trying to wait until the next Steam sale (I dunno, Easter maybe?) to buy new games. It's gonna be difficult to resist, though...

Not on the horizon, but Cities XXL just launched 6 days ago, so I wonder if that's causing Paradox to release Skylines this soon.

Let's hope so.

Releasing that close to a game that isn't getting a good write-up, with a name that isn't entirely dissimilar wouldn't be beneficial as far as I can see.

Really hope this is the real deal.

Based on their track record it's gonna need a couple patches. Waiting until after the next Steam sale shouldn't be too hard unless you're interested in beta testing the game.

Yeah, I don't think that Cities XXL provides a reason for Skylines to make any scheduling changes with how it's been received, I should have mentioned that I was excluding them.

Cross posting from the city builders thread:

Hey y'all, apparently you can use this voucher on GMG:

KPMN32-6VRM69-6INRND

On the pre-order price of Cities: Skylines

http://www.greenmangaming.com/s/us/e...

Bringing it down to around $24. I'm really tempted.

Now now now...We were just told:

Yes, remember, kids: if we learned anything from video game releases in 2014, it is that we should not be preordering things in 2015.

I know, just allowing y'all to make informed choices.

I'm not pre-ordering, simply because it's something I've never done, but the moment the game releases, I'm buying it full price. I like supporting devs for games I like.

I've certainly expressed my anticipation here, but I'm going to wait for reviews. If everything looks good, I'll happily buy it at full price at release. If there are problems, I'll wait and buy it after it's patched.

This is me. I'm ready to buy it today, but I don't want to be disappointed by paying full price and getting something less than satisfying.

I'm not preordering because February is the new November for stuff I'm interested in. I'll wait for reviews.

edit: after watching the trailer, I really like the graphics. They're a neat blend of stylized and realistic. It's kinda got this toys-that-come-to-life vibe.

Which is absolutely magical combination in this genre, don't you think?

Yeah, it's a fantastic look. I want to play with it! But I'll be a little patient, just in case.

Live Stream right now - http://www.twitch.tv/paradoxinteractive

Edit: Ah well, 50 minute stream, of which I missed most of it. Nevermind

Greenmangaming.com has a survey that will get you 22% off your next order. Feel free to take the survey if you want (or you could just use the code CLOUDA-NTSURV-GMGW22)

Anyway, it seems to work for Cities: Skylines Deluxe Edition, bringing it down to $31.20.

Link to Standard Edition here.

Okay, the first chink in the armor: the stupid bird.

The bird that shows up in the middle of the screen can not be moved or disabled. Citizen messages appear as "tweets" with stupid hashtags from the bird and obscure significant amounts of the screen. The bird also can not be modded out.

When confronted with feedback threads complaining about this, the CEO of Colossal Order basically said it's not going to change. Several people have pointed out that this has been Colossal Order's response to UI problems in the Cities in Motion games, too. Many issues have just never been fixed.

That's part of the game? While watching the recording of the stream, I thought that was some weird Twitter notification app that was running, because they never even acknowledged it IIRC.

That seems like it would be very annoying, so hopefully people complain loudly enough about it that the devs either make it toggleable or it gets removed by modders.

Welp, Bank of America sent me a settlement check for $21.14, so where do ya think it went? Thanks Nuuvem!

Oy you can't turn the bird off?

Quill18 now has a Let's Try video for Cities: Skylines from PDXCon.

I took advantage of that coupon and pre-ordered. I want a good city builder, and with that discount it's a great price.

YouTuber Arumba has his first impressions too:

Give me a chump fistbump! Although I did it for the bouncy castle.

Chumps!

I'm seeing some WTF in the way notifications work in the game.

All the more reason to give us the option to completely disable that fake Twitter pop up crap!

Cimexchange has a write up about CSL and transit planning. Sounds promising. http://www.cimexchange.com/page/inde...

You can't hide the bird completely, but they've (perhaps recently) said on the forums that you'll have to the option to disable the popups and the associated sound effect independently.
