Dying Light

I suspect it is intentional, zombie bodies are still human bodies afterall and let's face it, strong and fast as they might be human bodies are pretty damn easy to tear apart once weapons or even the teeth and claws of other animals become a factor.

Oh, sure. It's intentional that you're able to cut through enemies that quickly. I was more referring to the shift in difficulty.

One positive thing is that it seems like the walkers get more aggro and do their little rush attack more often as the game goes on. It makes moving through hoards much more difficult and it makes isolating them harder too. It's a good way to ramp up the difficulty in a subtle way.

Nighttime difficulty is really the biggest disappointment. After the first couple times you learn how to just avoid the vampire dudes super easy. I'm constantly sprinting right past their vision cones and they don't aggro. If you somehow do manage to aggro them there is always a safehouse within 30 seconds or so. If you do try to have some fun and bring them on a long chase they just smack your ass until you die from over chapping. Disappointing that the chase sequences aren't nearly as fun or engaging as the trailers implied.

If you want to make it more challenging, cover up the map in the corner. If you can't see where the cones of vision are, or even where the next safe house is, you would be forced to use your senses and memory which is more difficult.

Are you crazy Kazar?!?!?!

Btw I killed a volatile today, it had to have a few thousand HP since it took about 6 shotgun blasts from multiple different ranges and my shotgun says it does 1576 damage...

What would Bruce Campbell do?

Haha, ok you got me there. He would cover up the map in the corner and kick some ass.

This is one of the best games I have played in a long time.

Have played up to around 45% pf the story over the last three days, it is a lot of fun, I cannot get enough of kicking virals off of tall buildings.

It does make me feel like a bit of a wimp though, as I do not want to go out at night at all.

I may even finish this one...gasp!

yeah I'm having a blast dipping into this, glad I took the gamble.

I totally agree with this. I've been having a hard time finishing games lately and this is one that I haven't been able to put down, even if it's not perfect. I'm well on my way to beating it and have been having even more fun as I go.

Same feelings here, I have been in a rut when it comes to finishing games lately. Really hoping to finish this game and actually try some of the coop and invasion types of game play. I really want to do all the missions on my own though which is why I haven't opened my game up for others to join, any thoughts on pros and cons for that?

I also have no desire to go outside at night either and cringe when given a night mission...

I can see what you mean about wanting to do it on your own. A lot of the story missions I reserve for those moments when I'm just on my own because I prefer to be immersed and having someone else around kind of takes me out of that mode. Not that the story is that amazing but it just feels better to me. But when it comes to side missions I've tended to open them up to multiplayer and it makes them much more fun. It's just cool going around killing zombies and teaming up with other people to take on some of the more challenging aspects of the game, like the night time. It also tends to be more about finding fun things to do than just going around completing missions. Climbing the bridge towers and finding a new part of the map was some of the most fun I've had in co-op. So I guess what I'm saying is don't be afraid to mix it up cause there's a lot of fun to be had there.

Thanks for that, I think you are right. I am going to open it up on some side quests (night ones) and just keep the story missions to myself. Can you just chose your quest to highlight for the incoming players?

If they join your game then you're in charge of what quest comes up. So you can just select what you want to do and I've found that most people are fine with just tagging along to help you out, and those that aren't interested just leave the game right away. And you can always turn it off if you feel like you're not up for it at the moment. If you're on PC feel free to add me if you ever want to co-op!

I tried the invasion thing once and while it was fun it's not something I'd want regularly happening as it forces you into vs mode style objective battle. The gameplay is interesting and fairly tense but the whole thing is too long. It would be more interesting if it just put in a player controlled hunter that tried to kill you and you had to survive for a few minutes with no safehouses. The nest hunt thing is just not that fun past the first time and takes far too long.

So I finally found the personal stats page and found out that I've put 23 hours into this game it doesn't feel like it but I've enjoyed every minute of it

I haven't even delved into the "Be the Zombie" gameplay yet, as I want to finish the single player game. (Still just under 60%, thanks side-missions and your

Anyone interested in going in on a 4-pack tonight? $45 if we split it 4 ways, vs. $60 for a single copy.

I would be down for that. Count me in if we can get two more.

Just avoid the zombies. Find the path through the building and you should be fine.

I will try again after work, must be missing something on the second floor. I keep running into volatiles.

Some advice for everybody playing this game (main story related, no direct spoilers just contextual):

Spoiler:

Skip the main story cutscenes when you can. When you can't, just turn the sound off. It just gets dumber and dumber. I've gotten to a point where I'm actually facepalming. It's basically Farcry 3 but possibly dumber.

I'm only about level 6 on this but I disagree, the scenes are hilarious (Maybe not what they intended but I love the "acting")

I hope there's a zombie sharknado or something like that coming up

Story isn't that bad when you realize it's a game based on something that could never happen in the first place. Now please excuse me while I go fetch 20 bags of coffee for my end of the world zombie apocalypse coffee club.

Exactly. I keep shaking my head at all the people who seem to expect games like this to have a story worthy of Tolstoy. Cheesy action movies and their game equivalents don't require epic stories with deep and nuanced characters.

I like the story, I think that post is completely wrong

I'm giving you a choice: either put on these glasses or start eatin' that trash can.

Sometimes a bad story is better then a good story.

I never said I expected the game to have a good story. I said that it's dumb and worth ignoring because I believe it goes from boring and full of action tropes to just stupid.

I don't know why you would shake your head at people being disappointed or unhappy with the writing in a game anyway. It doesn't make the game as a whole terrible but it's worth criticizing. Do you think people who appreciate good writing in any medium/genre are silly? I wouldn't call the writing in this game charmingly cheesy at all, I'd call it boring at best and stupid at worst.

Cobble wrote:

I'm genuinely curious what you enjoyed about it.

FedoraMcQuaid wrote:

No, but looking for exceptional writing in games like Dying Light, Call of Duty, Battlefield, or Diablo is a lot like going to see Friday the 13th part 27 and expecting a masterpiece of screenwriting. Oddly enough though I've seen folks complain here about story in all those games.

The story isn't bad, and while it may be formulaic I wouldn't go advising people to skip it all as if it was going to infect them with zombie pox. I find the story to be quite important in giving the game direction and I wouldn't get nearly as much fun out of them just dropping you in a city filled with zombies and saying "go run around and kill things for a while."
