I find the lack of Secret of Mana under the SNES group to be very disappointing.

Ditto.

It's ok, I'm single

Chris, the mall at that point had the Funcoland and a GameStop seriously just across the hall diagonally. No more than a hundred steps away.

It was a golden age.

There would be no name change, though. Just an empty store.

MegaMan V and VI are 2.49 on the eShop right now. Though I have the GameCube collection, the allure of playing on the gamepad was too much to resist at that price.

Jumped into Gravity Man's stage. Goodness it's amazing how that stage stuck in my brain. Such good memories with these latter MegaMan games. Good lord, I was 8 years old. Soooo long ago now.

Currently showing as "sold out".

Wonder how many units they actually had?

Anyone here in UK ? Saturday 7th Feb 2015 - Retro Games Sale Expo in Leeds
Hook me up if you are there !

My girlfriend bought me a Retron 5 for my birthday/our 1 year anniversary, despite me telling her it was a bad idea.

I'm here to solicit suggestions for games. I had a SNES, NES, and GBA, so I have a decent knowledge of those. It'd have to be a particularly deep cut if it's a SNES game.

I never had a Game Boy, Genesis, or Game Boy Color (or any of the Japanese versions, which this thing also plays) so any suggestion from that realm is fair game.

Genesis: Shining Force series if you like turn based tactical RPGs, Ristar is a good sidescrolling platformer from the Sonic team that doesn't get enough love IMHO, Sonic 2 is the best of that series IMHO, Shadowrun on Genesis hasn't as good of a game as the SNES one but it was more accurate to the source material, The Immortal is a very old school RPG/adventure game that was fantastic but frustrating, the Mutant League Football and Hockey games, Ecco The Dolphin was fun but may not stand the test of time (much like Sonic), and Spider-Man was one of the best games based on a comic ever. I only had a Genesis for about a year (sold it and spent the money on SNES games) so there are probably people who can suggest more.

Gameboy / Gameboy Color: only thing I can think of here is The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening, but I am something of a portable console hater (which is why the OG Gameboy is the only one I have ever owned).

NES: River City Ransom, Little Ninja Brothers
Game Boy: Metroid 2: Return of Samus, Zelda: Oracle or Time/Seasons
Genesis: Lion King, Aladdin, Maximum Carnage, Sonic Spinball, Gunstar Heroes.
The Disney games aren't necessarily good games, but have really neat art and great chiptune versions of songs from the movies. Also, The Lost Vikings games for either Genesis or SNES are great early Blizzard games. If you've played Trine, it's basically an old version of that concept. Gunstar Heroes is the best game in that list of Genesis games.

How's the emulation quality on that? I've been a little curious about it since it would take up less room in the cabinet.

As for recommendations:

Game Boy: Donkey Kong ('94), Super Mario Land 2, Super Mario Land 3: Wario Land, Kirby's Dream Land 2, Final Fantasy Adventure, Pokemon Blue/Red (I'm intentionally leaving off the ones Delerat listed)
Game Boy Color: Link's Awakening DX, Pokemon Gold/Silver/Crystal

Honestly I don't know. I haven't taken it out of the box yet. I definitely wanted one when I was single, but I can't help but think it's a bit wasteful right now.

edit: and thanks for the suggestions guys. One issue with the Retron that I was worried about, and seems to be bearing out, is that a lot of the best stuff is now on Virtual Console for cheaper :\

I still have a soft spot in my heart for Comix Zone. No clue why.

I also have a fond memory of Desert Strike and it's sequels. Of those, Urban Strike is probably the best, as it finally nailed the controls and some of the other systems.

I love firing up Comix Zone every so often. Not a super long game but the music and graphics are awesome even now.

The next video YouTube suggested to me was a 20 minute speed run of Comix Zone. Even without all the speed run tricks and hacks, it's basically a 60 minute game.

I went to my local retro game store and came away with... Super Famicom copies of Chrono Trigger and Super Mario RPG, and Crystalis for NES.

It'll be fun to see if I can finish SMRPG and Chrono Trigger in Japanese from memory.

Edit: SNES games continue to look crazy on a 65" TV.

So does it do any upscaling or any other fancy stuff (i.e. support different rendering mode like most desktop emulators do these days)? One of the things that interest me the most about the RetroN5 is the HDMI output even though I think the SNES looks fine on my LG HDTV through composite cables once I found the right mode for the TV.

Super Famicom copies of Chrono Trigger

I was going to suggest that specific title, even knowing that you knew the SNES, just in case you'd somehow missed it.

The Sonic games were highlights on the Genesis, although I'm not sure how good they'd be to a modern player. And Altered Beast was a very good port of the arcade game, very popular at the time. ("Rise... from your grave!") Again, very basic stuff, but in the 1980s, that stuff was mindblowing. Nobody had ever seen anything like that on their TVs before. Being able to play arcade games without quarters was a big deal!

I pay very little attention to the technical side of games, so I'm not really equipped to answer. The product website says it has some enhancements. *shrug*

Sorry for the not-so-helpful answer.

Doesn't the GBA version of Chrono Trigger have a bunch of extra stuff added to? Didn't a number of the GBA rereleases of SNES games get extra content?

There's no GBA version of Chrono Trigger - it got ported to the DS. The DS version has two added dungeons, and by and large they are both *terrible*. FFIV and FFVI on GBA both got decent added content, and FFVI in particular benefited from a retranslation. However, the sound quality is poor so I still prefer the SNES cart or the Wii VC version. And if I had to pick one version of FFIV I actually prefer the DS remake.

In the process of cleaning out my game shelves. Should have taken a picture before starting. Came across some oldies I forgot I had.

Advanced D&D Pool of Radieance, Cursee of the Azure Bond, Secret of the Silver Blades, and 6 more.
Falcon 4.0 in a big ass folder like manual
Close Combat III sealed
Summoner sealed
Warhammer 40k Chaos Gate, moving each soldier was so boring. I think the newer games fixed.
System Shock 2
Enter the Matrix, buggy piece of crap. hmmm maybe I should check if it was fixed
IL 2, I knew I had this but bought it on gog a few years back. One of the bes sims I played
Aliens vs Predator 2, never got around to playing this. Loved the first game.
MS Flight Simulator 98
Golden Sun, I was actually looking for this game a few weeks ago.
2 Castlevania games for the GBA but I forgot which ones.
Anachronoa, never finished this game. I bought it on Gog also because I couldn't be bother to search for it.

And large number of other games.

So I have been throwing away boxes which pained me and copying key codes to key pass db. No way I am going to get those D&D games to run so I should throw them out but I can't. Pretty sure those were dos games. Back in those days you needed graph paper and a note pad. Hmmm I think I need a decoder wheel for at least one of those games. I know I still have it. Maybe I'll try to get one to run and see what happens.

I bought that version, and wasn't real impressed. They added these weird CGI cutscene movies that didn't look anything like I imagined the characters; Crono looks like a total jerk, and in need of a good throttling. I found it distracting enough that I stopped playing.

It was never fixed.

To elaborate, the character designs were made by Akira Toriyama who also did the character designs for Dragon Quest/Warrior and DragonBall. His animation studio did the animated cutscenes they grafted onto the PS1/DS version.

PS2 games are so cheap it's embarrasing. Just spent £11.50 ($17) and got
Metal Gear Solid 2 - Sons of Liberty
Hitman - Contracts
Hitman 2
Devil May Cry
Devil May Cry 2, 2 Discs
The Thing,
Midnight Club 3 - Dub Ed Remix
Deus Ex (which I have NEVER PLAYED!)
(+ Super Smash Gamecube for £25)

I picked up Okage: Shadow King(ps2), I had this when I was younger and really liked it but got stuck in a dungeon and traded it, hoping to have a bit fun with it.

In their defense this was released on the original Xbox and PS2 back before they could really patch games. Legacy of Kain: Defiance has a game breaking bug on like level 7 that also was never patched.
