Star Trek Online Catch-All

I find driving via mouse in space works best, also you can set weapons to autofire so you are not routinely hitting those hot keys.

Yeah thanks, figured out the auto fire and it helps a ton.

Finally hit 800 lobi after... years of lifetime sub zen. Picked up the Tal Shiar Adapted Battle Cruiser.

This thing is a pretty fun little beast.

I am very late here of course but loving this game.

They just released episode 9 last week which changed a few things about the various faction rep grinds including addition of yet another faction, added a rather unsatisfying little story mission series, added a few new ground and space maps you can que for and added a space battleground for the new faction which works the same way as the Dyson ground battlezone. To me the biggest change has been the amount of purple Mk XII gear I've been getting from the daily faction projects and even as rewards in the new story missions. Getting Mk XII purples before this was fairly rare unless you bought them from your fleet base or had a high rep with a faction and spents tons of dilithium. So while the high end stuff is still better you can at least get a bunch of MK XII purples while you grind out some faction rep.

Perhaps a stupid question, but I have been making some small contributions here and there for fleet related areas. Is this something we are all still working on even though we have become a smaller fleet?

When you first log in you should have a guild message of the day that will ask that you put all fleet donations into X project. Last month it was the spire but I can't remember what we're working on right now.

Ok, thanks. Right now the message is for the embassy.

Two free ship slots to those that log in on May 8th.

Boldly going where no one has gone before in Star Trek Online will be easier than ever come Thursday. Cryptic announced today that it will be gifting all existing players with two additional ship slots on Thursday, May 8th.

Players begin with two ship slots and obtain more by leveling, buying them in the store, or from other in-game achievements. A ship slot allows for the storage and use of a starship, giving players the option to switch between ships as needed. Two ship slots from the store costs 500 ZEN.

Actually, that says to me that *everyone* will get two more slots on Thursday, May 8th. I don't think you have to log in then.

Yeah just two free slots to everyone with existing accounts.

So if you're not playing for some reason, make an account today.

Awesome.

Maintenance today from 10am to 1230 or so Eastern.

There has been a major revamp to the crafting system.

Depending on your point of view (at least from what folks are saying elsewhere on the internets) it is either ok or a tool of satan; your milage may vary.

Whoa, cool there is STO talk here. Let's be friends! I... Have to look up my account @name...

The lastest major expansion has come out (delta rising).

The level cap has been increased with some new systems around that, here is a summary of the changes: http://sto.gamepedia.com/Delta_Rising

I'll be back to play the new content in summer time.

There's so much I don't like about it, I should probably never go to it again, but sometimes I get an itch to fly my ship around. Which I paid real money for...

Garrcia, any experience with upgrading a T5 to T6? I don't like the look of the new T6 ships.

I'm playing again, but mostly just because I want to try out a Romulan and get a feel for some of the storyline overhauls.

I'll add you guys on Steam. If I end up playing STO at all, I'll look for you. If not, well... Steam friends!

I hate level cap increases. Might not ever play again.

Doesn't look like there's a T6 carrier. Guess I chose poorly when I decided to make that my preferred class of ship.

At this point I have a T5-U ship, not a T6 one. Any T5 ship can be upgraded (I believe) - if you have one that would have been initially acquired via Zen, Lobi, or a Lockbox they can be upgraded for free.

Having said that the extra console slot is slot is ok (my escort like thing got an extra engineering console).

The ship abilities are nice - on par with traits that can be acquired via lockbox (e.g. +5% accuracy).

As for the level cap it affects gear you can equip (it now goes to rank 14) - you can level up older gear (either via crafting of via tokens from the Zen store). The skill point cap is unchanged - now there is a talent like system where at each level you get a talent point to put in one of three trees - again on par with other traits.

Difficulties have apparently been ratcheted up accordingly as well.

Edit - the main difference between T5-U and T6 is that only T6 ships have a ship mastery level that is unlocked as a general trait for use as opposed to being only applicable to that ship.

I haven't checked it out yet but there is some kind of 5 year anniversary thing going on.

Sounds like a new episode and daily Q event.

Apparently if you go through the quest line and do ~15 days worth of the daily quest you can get a T6 cruiser, not too shabby

Thank for the article post, Iridium. I'll check it out again someday. Lifetime, after all.

So I'm trying to get into this and am kind of struggling. I like the feel of the space combat, but it takes for freaking ever to get through a fight. And since most episodes seem to consist of three or 4 waves of enemies I'm usually tired of them by the final wave. It's taking almost an hour to complete a fight against several waves of enemies. Is there a guide to doing better DPS or anything that someone can recommend? Or does it usually take this long?

I'm a level 14 science officer.

You are a cleric. DPS is from the non-science ships. You can buy and use them even as a science officer, just know that your character buffs will be different than if you were a tactical or engineering officer.

You are level 14, you aren't going to have a great ship yet, or great DPS. But, it will come with time. My fed captain is a science officer, and no, he isn't a cleric. No mace, no prayers of healing, just loads of buttkicking torpedo goodness. Gravity wells to suck the NPCs into place, then bombard them with AoE Debuffs and the AoE damage from the torpedos. I do need to get back into the game at some point, I haven't played since they bumped the level cap from 50 to 60. The thought of having to grind 10 levels, then grind out the gear to equip the new ship, for my fed and klingon captain... bleh. I like the ships those two use, and I like how I have them kitted out. Sigh.

Grrr damnf*ck! I'm trying to install and log in so I can agree with you, Warhound, that science officers aren't necessarily clerics, because my main is also fed sci and kicks ass.....but the last time I played, the game was run by Perfect World and now this Arc Games website and stuff, whoever they are, don't recognize my login credentials or email address. The last time I played was not long after they introduced all those borg missions with the super-cool gear you had to earn in sets.
