Is it possible to back up server states?

I'll have to figure that out and it won't be until after 7 or 8pm tonight.

SLACKER!!!

I vote random. Let me know when we're back up and I'll start the rebuilding process.

Navzegane has some advantages because of how dense everything is, you don't have to wander far to get between biomes and no matter where you are it's not too far to run to join up with the group.

The random gen maps get lots of cool structures that don't exist in Navzegane, as well as more interesting geography with real rivers, mountains, etc. The downside is that the biomes are huge and supply runs can be rather long and dangerous.

I'm good either way!

Trying to figure that out. There is no method via the web console that I find, but I can ftp to it also. I'll try that at lunch today.

Do I need to find a recipe before I can craft an item or can I just place the ingredients where they are supposed to go if I know the correct placement from wiki?

The ones you know will work like that, but a lot you need to find the appropriate book in order to learn.

Yeah, you've got to find the books first. For instance, placing the small rocks and short iron pipe in the configuration for a forge won't let you actually construct the forge until you've read the Forge Ahead book.

Hehe, that's exactly why I am asking - in my new game I am having terrible luck with finding the Forge book.

Another question. How does time advance on a persistent MP server, does it advance if no people are connected to it??

If I'm not mistaken, it only advances when someone is on.

Yeah, if the only player logs off then time stops. Makes it impossible to cheat the nighttime by taking a break.

Also, there's a radius around players where the world is active. If you get too far from a forge, campfire, etc, that is working it will pause until someone is back in range.

So is the GWJ server back up and "stable"? Will likely have some play time today and want to know if I should go SP or MP

Yes, its always been stable. I made the mistake of changing settings which cleared our world. I won't do that again. I'm also backing up our game save daily just in case I do do it again.

I finally found the Forge book in my SP game (on day 5). Man, I was more happy about finding this stupid book than about some purple gear I found in WoW.

Now I need to find some cooking recipes, my character ate way too much raw corn.

My son and I are on day 25 in our random world. Our underground base continues to expand and seems to be completely immune from attack so as long as we stay there during the night there are no worries. At one point my kamikaze kid opened fire on a passing hoard from atop our tower and immediately called for my help. By the time it was all over I'd gone through about 150 rounds of shotgun and hunting ammo, half the durability on my melee weapon and had racked up 6 more acid vomiting obese cop kills.

I also decided to do some heavy-duty exploring yesterday and the biomes in this random map are huge and don't follow the east to west stripes that the standard map does. I also ran across a giant weapons shop, a book store, a 7 or 8 floor apartment building and an information center which I'd never seen before. I wasn't prepared for that amount of looting. After staying there for 2 days all of the tools I could break down doors with had broken and I headed back to base. It was a fun little adventure and now I have a new looting spot to head back to. For advanced weapons I've found 3 sniper rifle parts and 3 SMG parts. Oddly, I still don't have the recipe for the SMG though I did find a blueprint for an iron helmet. Honestly I didn't even know this game had individual recipes you could find.

Where is the "Home Base" on the GWJ server? I've spent some hours there trying out some tactics and base building, and haven't really played any meaningful SP yet. I've made a nice little home base (barely more than a box to hide in at night) just about at the exact spot I first spawned in, as it was both by a river and near a ruined city, and have spent some game days there exploring and trying stuff. But I figure as long as I'm spending time there, I might as well join the family

I did accept the friend request, though still need the information about the server. Are there any specific rules - are we all going to build near each other, or wherever we like, or ?

Did you also get invited to the Steam group? the info is there. I'll PM you the current info, but be aware the password might change at some point, so best to have access to the group as well.

Thanks, got the PM - and nope, not in the group. I think Lightning had intended to invite me after I accepted his friend invite, guess he forgot

Same here. I haven't been invited to the group yet though Lightning and I are BFF's now per my Steam friends list.

I sent group invites to both of you. Sorry I probably forgot to do so last week. Just send someone a friend request in game (not steam) and then you can track them to the base location. I can also let you know the coordinates although I won't be playing until Tuesday evening.

Cool, thanks - got it! So, are we allowed to build on our own, or would you prefer to have everyone near each other? Or both

Quick tip: don't let your kid near your stash of dynamite when you're in an underground mine. Luckily I'd made him dig his own shaft in the opposite direction of the primary escape exists I was working on. I had to mount a rescue mission after one particularly bad explosion that left him trapped with a newly broken pick axe.

If anyone who's got them can post the base coordinates either here or in the steam group page, that would be most helpful

Both. We have a main base that we have been working on for a few days now. If you want to join in feel free to do so. Motley, Fogrob, Nyxs, Masher or myself can assist you with location when in game. If you use any supplies, give back please give back also with something useful. You can also go and build on your own. I'd like to have a survival party go exploring sometime just so we can discover more of the world and possibly build more bases.

Item's we are currently searching for:

1. Lead, Potassium Nitrate, Coal, and always Iron
2. Ammo (shotgun and 9MM specifically) (one of each paper, gun powder, and buckshot will make one shotgun shell) One lead ingot can make 8 buckshot.
3. Augers
4. Gas
5. TNT
6. It would also be cool to get a small farm going by the main base (Corn and Potatos). Corn can be used to make gas for the Augers.

That's just what I can think of right now. When in game just friend up whoever is in there and start enjoying the world.

Moto and I will be on around 7:30 - 8pm central tonight.

I did a quick exploration around the lake that our base is on. It's not too big [or deep] and you can easily swim to a peninsula that's north of the base. Thought that might be another island, which could've been cool to build a skybridge/walkway between the two. Maybe a bit of terraforming could make that happen. Gonna need a few shovels and pickaxes -- or an auger
There's also some large-ish cliffs around the northwest side of the lake that might be good alternate mining sites. I wanted to venture into Xeknos' mine, but had a horde on my ass at the time, so didn't think that'd be a productive place to hide. Gonna head in there next time I'm on, though.
One last thing. I think there's some sort of mineral deposit [looked like maybe coal] in the cliff wall on the western side of our base island. It's just above the water line. I saw it as I was swimming back in from the other side of the lake, but didn't have time to check it out any further.

How awesome would a tunnel under the lake to the other side be?!!

Challenge Accepted!

Is the GWJ server running a random world, or the Navezgane map? I'm not sure how map coordinates are set up, but looking at the Navezgane maps I found online (which don't have coords on them), I couldn't find a place that looks like where I spawned and made camp at on the server.

The GWJ server is a random map.

I finally joined the GWJ server last night and decided to build a small outpost to keep myself safe while I explored. I ended up building a small house on stilts in the water at a fork in the river. That location puts me at the meeting point of 3 biomes, snow, forest and bombed out city. Luckily I'm only a very short jog to 2 book stores, 2 gas stations and city hall. That took care of my need for recipes and gave me enough parts to make a couple of shotguns and a pistol as well as netting a stock for a sniper rifle. Oddly, I still haven't found a cooking pot. The house is simple but pretty much complete. I think I might expand the roof a little and put a small garden up there and I need to put some tree spikes on the bed of the river around the base of my house as I already had 1 small roving group of zombies come through and start banging on the supports. I'll probably need to add a couple more supports as well since having only 2 support pillars seems a little precarious and I don't want to come back to find half my house at the bottom of the river.
