Given that I'm not really interested in playing a Wizard or any of the other free classes I think I'll decide if I want to sign up after I pick up the PHB at a later date.
But then the benefit of the format is that new characters can be cycled into the "guild" at any time. Even if a player feels like his PC has completed their own goals or whatnot, they can fade into the background / move into "management" / or flat-out retire (opening the door for needing to be pulled out of retirement with cliched lines such as "I'm too old for this sh*t").
On the other hand, you could probably Skype up with someone who has a PHB to help get a character running. Hell, we could have a big ol' Skype fest just to do this.
Oops! I forgot to post that I am planning on joining in whenever possible.
YOU HAVE MY AXE.. or whatever weapon my class will be wielding. I am definitely interested.
I'm here to watch.
garion is so pervy.
Hey, share some popcorn.
Okay, that character generator site is awesome.
Outspoken Gnome Barbarian from the Dank Hollows who moonlights as a private investigator
Churlish Half-orc Druid from an isolated monastery who loots every kill but leaves enough to pay for their burial
Lots of dragonborn though.
Can't wait to play a half-orc wizard though.

For me, it seemed like every good backstory was a Druid of some sort. There was a tactless Human Druid from a small family farm who couldn't talk to women and a egotitical half-elf druid from the royal court who had lost several appendages gambling.
Man, this idea sounds super cool. Also, it's Asterith, not Astarith. I am trying to decide on what class to play, figure I will see how others are rolling and fill in the gaps.
Color me interested, though I'm not sure my gaming schedule will allow actual participation.
This is great. We used to do this back in the day when the whole group couldn't get together.
One suggestion: at the end of each sitting one or more people should write, in character, a report on the events that just happened. We started regularly doing this and it's become one of my favorite gaming experiences. Even now, years after we played regularly, we go back and read the reports and they are hilarious and fun.
Also, don't worry so much about what other people are playing - there are lots of players and people are going to overlap in class.
Finally one step closer to my ultimate dream of a group that solely consists of Bards!

I take it you didn't read the OP.
Oh. I guess I skimmed that.
As you were.
Oooh, sign me up...I will start building a character tonight!
Looking at druid, FWIW.
Leaning towards a dwarf cleric at the moment.
I'm thinking Tempest domain with the Sailor background
So from that character generator site I pulled this on the first go:
"ENTERPRISING GNOME RANGER FROM A MID-LEVEL CULT WHO ONCE SURVIVED A BOILING CAULDRON"
Oh so tempting!
Nevermind... That was fast action.
Any thoughts on the gods in this setting? Default D&D gods? Roll our own?
In. Thanks!

I am willing to be the deity figure of a small cult... just saying
sure ok maybe
Count me in this, it may the the only way that I can play a PC!
My disclaimer though is that I don't know my time schedule as I already run two games and I have child #2 on the way.
Are there any plans for how to tackle the level gap problem?
Gods are easy in 5E because you can take steal gods from other campaigns and have them renamed as aspects (Our God of Light and healing is...um...Healbot the Blessed Mule...in other lands he's known as Pelor or as...uh...that boring god who doesnt smite people...) as the most salient part of the God initially for characters is the Domain the worshipper represents and how that domain informs their attitudes.
Also, Tempest Domain is Best Domain. Just Sayin...
So want in on this as my real world dnd group is doing almost the exact same style of gaming/shared dming/world building.
