Post a video, present me a POV!

This one is far more convincing:

A group of Dropbox employees try to oust neighborhood kids from local soccer field. Cuz they reserved the field through apps.

So that's several months old now. A great follow up that I just saw from Buzzfeed, of all places, follows the dude on the left of that Youtube preview image as he walks through the Mission and discusses the gentrification that's kicked his family and thousands of other Latino and Black families out of San Francisco.

EDIT: Thought the previous video was actually older than it is, sorry.

Yeah WipEout, I actually saw the second one first, but I thought the video with the actual argument is more charged. Gentrification is one of those processes I hear about but never really "see" in person. The oppression here, if any, is gradual. I thought this altercation is a pretty telling point of conflict. Puts a "face" on the problem, so to speak.

I'm conflicted, actually. The tech guys didn't really help their case by acting like jerks, but they were also the people who actually followed the rules to earn playing time on the field. I kept asking what I would do if I were personally involved in that situation and I didn't come up with much.

For the tech guys, it's an afternoon's diversion. For many of the residents, it's all they've got in the way of outdoor recreation. Guess who is going to fight harder?

The Tech guys were technically in the right at first, that's true-- but the problem was that the system they followed was implemented behind the neighborhood's backs, and completely counter to the way things have been there for ages. I lost all sympathy for the techbros once they decided to remain segregated and keep to one side of the field, after the neighborhood kids offered to play together. Especially after the techbros claimed they were a contributing part of the neighborhood. F*ck those guys: they're the embodiment of what I hate about New San Francisco, and what's killed the city I loved.

I would have played with the kids as they suggested, then approach the parks people afterward and discuss how they forced a system onto a neighborhood without consulting and working with that neighborhood, hopefully to help them come to a solution that works with the traditions and culture already in place there.

Stephen Fry on God.

Hey! I came here to post that! Brilliant reply, and the look on the host's face is priceless.

(As an aside, which Firefox plug-in does that video require? My new install seems to be missing something...)

Annnnd thank you for the eye-burrowing insect nightmares Stephen Fry.

It's just the regular flash plugin, Robear.

Huh. Wonder why Sync didn't bring it over from before... I don't think I've turned off Flash; it still works on other sites, just not for embedded videos...

Edit - Got it now, I think.

Pesky human psychology, that's kind of terrifying.

TEXAS!

It would be funny if she didn't actually believe it.

My god. That woman has literally never been funny to me.

"Stealth Jihad" would make a bad ass awful gamer tag. Way better than, like "Sniper Falcon" and the like.

Wow. I took me a couple of seconds to even determine that there was something to parse.

Cognitive dissonance in action.

Voted Republican for 32 years. Charter member of local Tea Party Patriot chapter. YouTube channel dedicated to shooting guns, ranting against the "nanny state" and the Ferguson "cesspool," and boycotting The Walking Dead because two dudes kissed on the show. Watch as he tries to reconcile his long-held conservative political beliefs with the realization that he's benefited massively from Democratic policies over the past 20 years and Obamacare recently.

It just lacks so much context. Why is he "retired" at age 50? Did he work quite hard, save enough to live in his lifestyle, and then have a health issue which meant he needed health insurance but couldn't afford it (or would have been deigned for a pre-existing condition) without continuing to work? I guess that is scenario I can think of so I wonder what his real situation is.
