Asheron's Call - Lifetime Account

Yeah, it took me a good 20 minutes to get that downloaded and installed. Patching through the client has always been on the slow side. I downloaded the data files from the website first hoping to avoid that, but it turned out those were out of date anyway.

I started up again on Frostfell, since FF and Darktide are the most populated servers these days. However since PurEvil is on Morningthaw already it might make more sense to go there instead.

I hit the same wall. 9 minutes to download 500+ MB, 20 minutes to download 14 MB. Took me by surprise.

Worth thinking about. I wonder if my lil sword chick is still around.....

I created Bohdb, an Empyrean Wayfarer on Frostfell. Only level 2 so will create a character on Pur's server as well, maybe a bowhunter.

Why does it look like my characer is floating rather than running or walking? Have the graphics turned way up.

Empyerean's float by default. I believe you can go to a barber to change that (I'm not sure what if any cost is associated).

Lol, ok, my mistake, and here I thought something was goofy with the graphics level 7 bowhunter named Stormspain on Morningthaw now.

I went Aluvian again on Morningthaw, and 'Docter theh Absurd' is almost lore-friendly Aluvian name, so I've stuck with it.

I was minorly afraid that Holtburg wouldn't have a buff-bot. Fortunately that fear was baseless.

Chat is noticeably quiter than Frostfell. But, I'm not completely sure that is a bad thing.

Looking around youtube videos, did asheron's call 2 die twice? I'm seeing numerous vids about it coming back circa 2012 or 2013.

I'm not considering it to have died a second time, but yeah, it was canceled in 2005 (within a couple of months of releasing its one and only expansion). They opened a new server that anyone with an AC1 subscription could play on in 2012. At the time they were calling it a beta, implying there was a chance that it might be released 'separately', but I don't believe that ever happened and you still need an AC1 account to be able to login to AC2 (I never got into AC2, I didn't have a computer that could handle it when it came out, and by the time I did it didn't sound very appealing).

That was an issue for me as well at AC2 launch. I could run it, but only after setting everything to the bare minimum, and stuttering through the landscape. It was playable, but it was ugly.

The buff bots in Holtburg are from the allegiance I'm in. Treat them well, and try to find some patrons. It's an awesome group of people, and their website (though very quiet) is located here.

Edit: I'm posting a message over on those boards to let them know they'll be seeing some new players coming in. Our allegiance chat normally always has a few people talking on it.

I'll look into it, but that's tempting.. One fee now, unlimited play ?

Hope to don't close the server soon.

Oh wow, what a blast from the past! I was in AC back during their beta (it was the MMO I played after Everquest, and felt so different and fresh). Played for a few years after collage, maybe stopped back in 2002-sh. I'd really be interested in a private server!

Asheron's Call was my gateway drug into MMOs in my early 20's, when I had my first good job but before marriage, kids, and a mortgage. I have bittersweet memories of that game. Looking back at the progression of MMOs since then it was really an outlier with the solo-focused gameplay, sandboxy world, and XP pass-up pyramid scheme.

I resubbed for a month just to be sure I'd get on the free-to-play list, but knowing literally no one ingame makes for a bleak experience. I'm not sure I'm going to be spending much time in Dereth.
