Nate Diaz. Or, Diaz The Younger.

D'oh! You're right. Fixed.

I remember wondering how that skinny little jerk won the show. Turns out he's not a bad fighter at all.

I don't think Nick was ever on the show. If he was, I don't remember it.

Tangentially related to MMA, but Kazushi "Gracie Killer" Sakuraba will be taking on Renzo Gracie in Metamoris 5! How sweet is that?! They're both like 45+ years old, and Sakuraba has the body of a 90 year old man now. But I'm hoping it'll be a good match.

Unrelatedly, I really hope Metamoris becomes the UFC for grappling. I love this event.

UFC 182 tonight, can't wait! I'm firmly in Cormier's corner as I would love to see the upset, plus he's a really likeable dude. Jones is one of the best fighters of all time but he's annoying & he can't take Anderson Silva's record Any predicitions? I'll go against the odds & say Cormier 4th round TKO.

I am going with Jones 5th round sub.

Can't stand Bones. I just don't see anyone beating him until he goes to HW.

Yep he used his reach & superb clinch work in tandem with his kicks to really stop DC doing too much damage bar the 2nd round.

Think Gustaffson will cause him the most problems out of him & Rumble Johnson purely through technique, footwork, boxing & amazing takedown defence.

Jones is looking more & more like the best fighter of all time.

Can't wait for Silva v Diaz & I'm predicting McGregor to dispatch Siver in just over a minute to then get a title shot & have an amazing match with Aldo.

Donald Cerrone goes old school and will fight again in two weeks against Benson Henderson. (link)

I watched the prelims last night. Paul Felder laid out a guy with one of the best reverse backfists you'll ever see. Most folks try it from far out and miss by a mile. Felder slipped a punch and came with it as an inside move.

Here's the video; Felder is the one with the horrible mullethawk.

You gotta love Cerrone's attitude & fight style. Hope he knocks Henderson out & gets a title shot after Dos Anjos.

The Felder knockout was insane, beautifully timed in close range. He looks like he could go far in the division. Very solid kicks, great defence & judging distance.

Jon Jones caught with cocaine in his system and enters rehab. Jesus Jon your the best pound for pound in the world and you're doing bullsh*t like this? Get it together.

Cocaine a hell of a drug.

So using coke no big deal but pot gets you cut or sidelined for a year... Oh they go into it here, and they knew before the fight and didn't tell DC.

Just seems weird that cocaine isn't considered a P.E.D to me.

I've got Silva by KO Rd 2.

My two favorite fighters; going to be happy and sad regardless. :/

Silva popped for steroids.

Am I done w/this sport?

- oversaturated market
- Dana
- misogyny
- human suffering for my entertainment
- greed
- TESTOSTERONE!!!!!!!!
- judging
- Rogan
- Andy doped

I might be done with this sport.

It is interesting to see the difference in tone how they deal with Jon Jones/cocaine, Silva/steroids and then Diaz/pot. Jones they pretty much swept under the rug. Silva they talk about confirming results, world ambassador blah blah. Diaz gets crucified for medicinal pot?

Also they allowed Silva to fight because they got the test results to late... I wouldn't be surprised they tested for pot because silva was hot on roids. A fuzzy monkey of distraction.

Also on the Joe Rogan podcast he talked about Jones not being a big draw PPV wise compared to other champs and how "they" struggled how to market him. Makes me think the weigh in fight was staged and explains Jones sudden bad guy mentality. Ala wrestling let's try him as a heel.

Really? Not a single word about the Rousey fight?

Cyborg please. Let's have a real test.

Yeah, I think we're all waiting for that match up.

It probably won't happen. Rousey doesn't want to move up in weight class, and Cyborg probably can't make 135. (I think I read that she walks around at something like 175 or so.)

Then again, they all said Mayweather-Pacquiao would never happen.

What are some other examples of fighters who have been as dominant as Rousey in her class? Most of the others I can think of had a short run as being "unstoppable" or at least had a few good fights sprinkled throughout that went the distance. I know Lesner had a lot of 1 round matches early on and then just tanked. In boxing, Tyson of course had his run until he went bonkers. With Rousey she's only had 1 fight go past the first round, right? There hasn't even been a hint that there's someone out there who might have a shot at taking her down.

Brock Lesnar was never unbeatable; Frank Mir's heel hook proved that. And then it was a matter of time before Dana White would find someone (Cain Velasquez) to stand and bang with him.

Tyson's the obvious boxing comparison. (There's got to be a Buster Douglas out there somewhere, right?)

In MMA (well, the UFC, at any rate), Georges St.-Pierre and Anderson Silva cleaned out their divisions and held their belts for 5-6 years each. But neither were brutally dominant inside the cage as Rousey is. GSP's fights usually went the distance. Sometimes with Silva, you got the sense he was just bored.

I thought about him but the "I'm bored" fights really just rubbed me the wrong way. It's like he was trying to be Ali, clowning around the octagon, acting like the person across from him was beneath his notice. It just didn't come off the same as Ali and I could never root for him. With Lesnar, I always felt he was more marketing than skill and he just had the look. Of course if all they needed was someone who looked frickin' scary stepping into the ring I don't know why they didn't do more with Kimbo.

Roy Jones, Jr. was so dominant in his class that he had to jump all over the map weightwise to find fights for money. He went 49-1 (one loss by DQ for hitting downed opponent) until the Tarver rematch where he was visibly 15 pounds lighter than his opponent.

This is what dominant looks like.

Part of Rousey's dominance is because of the relative youth of the sport.

But Silva was utterly dominant and only lost (in the UFC) after approaching 40.

Bones Jones has looked unstoppable (unfortunately).

Don't forget The Last Emperor.

Boom. And New!

Holm really exposed some massive gaping holes in Rousey's stand up game. I was more surprised at how ineffective she was in getting and keeping Holm to the ground though.

Agreed.

It seems like Rousey was rattled (did you see her reaction at the weigh-ins?) and wanted to "prove" something by beating Holm standing. Obviously, I give 98% of the credit to Holm's footwork and avoidance of Rousey but still, she didn't appear to want to do the judoka thing (and lol at Holm tripping Rousey - woah!).

Just an excellent performance by Holm. A complete mixed martial artist. Best of luck to her going forward.

Shades of Buster Douglas' knock out of Mike Tyson. No one gave Douglas a chance in hell while everyone was looking forward to Tyson's next bout against Evander Holyfield. Tyson didn't look like himself, Douglas won, the bout with Holyfield was called off, and Buster got his own Sega Genesis video game.

For her sake I hope it turns out more like GSP. One can only let so many things take away from training time before it causes a loss. Hopefully more fighters will learn from yet another example of such.
