Games Soundtrack Appreciation / Discussion Thread

Game Music Bundle 8 is up on loudr.

I was looking at this yesterday - is there anything in the $10 tier worth the asking price? (I am the cheapest of cheapskates.) Lifeformed's Immerse is the only one I know immediately I would want, and it's on Spotify.

It might be on Spotify, but Immerse is worth 10 bucks alone.

... I can't speak for anything else on there, so this is not an answer to your question. You're welcome.

I listened to Immerse for the first time yesterday and am inclined to agree. Lifeformed is fantastic.

To have a Debbie Downer moment for a sec, anyone else completely despise the new Binding of Isaac: Rebirth soundtrack and miss Baranowsky's take? I sure do. Game lost a significant amount of charm for me when I heard the new one.

I play with music off now. Never did that with the old version.

On the plus side, it's great to play Isaac with highly inappropriate music, like my extensive playlist of Disney songs. I should play some Isaac with Christmas carols this holiday season.

Thanks for the heads up, Pyxistyx. I have been wanting to add in some new songs and several of those seem like they might be quite interesting.

Fragrance of Dark Coffee
Turnabout Jazz

Villain Suite (2:38 on being my favorite)
2008 Gyakuten Meets Orchestra

Turnabout Sisters
2008 Gyakuten Meets Orchestra

Lying Coldly
Ace Attorney Investigations OST

There is an orchestra version of this, but it sadly loses the energy of the original

I imagine there are other notables in this series, but I'm honestly not familiar enough with the soundtrack to name them. After a few listens this track really stuck out to me

Twister
The World Ends With You

Tokyo
Wipeout Pulse

Hexagonest Stage
Super Hexagon

Can you Fly, Sister?
Seiken Densetsu 3
Remix by: Mohikan Family's

Decisive Battle with Magus
Chrono Trigger
Remix by: YukiYoshi
I am unsure where to directly link to the artist here

For anyone interested regarding the music in Smash Bros. Be sure to check out the free 101 track fan-arrangement album Harmony of Heroes. It is rather good with a great deal of musical variety, and they just released an additional 27 tracks called Final Smash remixed from the newest games (3DS & WiiU).

Rarely has a song captured loss and grief this well for me. Perhaps it's even more moving when you're familiar with the Guild Wars universe, and if you've experienced the destruction firsthand, but still...

I've been listening to these guys lately. They have probably been mentioned in this thread before, but fun stuff

Monkeys from Mario Paint

I really wanted to use the Katamari song, since I am a fan of that series, but this song is just too cute

Music A from Tetris

Best use of Navi

Something about Koopa Beach

Space Warrior Sound Machine from Super Metroid

I Do It For the Faeries

The Bane of Kanto

I also really like the Ghost and Goblins song from this album

I'm sure it has been mentioned here, but I really enjoyed the sound track in Nier

The OneUps

Indeed, they're quite good! They have a nice variety of styles and good live shows as well (I've seen them in concert four or five times) I lost track of them for the most part after their Intergalactic Redux album (nice, funky stuff!), but I'm surprised to see that they're not at MAGFest this weekend (they'd played there for the last few years at least).

Their front man Mustin is also part of an arrangement group called the Bad Dudes, which has put out some neat stuff as well. I'm not sure how active either group is these days.

I <3 The OneUps. They're not at MAGFest because they're at PAX South instead this year. I've seen them twice live now, once at KoLCon (which I think happened because I suggested them as an alternative to The Minibossses when they couldn't make it one year) and when they were in Boston a couple years ago.

If you liked Intergalactic Redux then you'll love Intergalactic Continuum which was a bigger album and excellent follow up with their "new sound". They recently released a Halloween/Spooky album in October but I haven't had a chance to listen to it.

The Bad Dudes have been pretty silent lately but they're currently working on an Earthbound/Mother remix album in collaboration with Fangamer. I think Mustin's been busy with personal stuff but also getting his label up and running.

I would be surprised if this hasn't been gushed about before, but--I love the Xenoblade Chronicles soundtrack. I snagged mp3s of it from somewhere a long time ago and it's part of my regular rotation of background music.

The more I actually play it, the more each song becomes infused with a sense of place, given how most of the music is specific to location and the time of day.

Oh, it has. I imported the CD and the sheet music for the piano arrangements which are really fun to play. Here are the ones I can play relatively well at the moment.

They are all great arrangements.

Ah ha! I'm glad they're out and playing this weekend (and still active!), even it isn't at MAGFest!

Thanks for the recommendation, shoptroll! I'll have to check Intergalactic Continuum and their Halloween album out!

I came across a podcast about MMO* soundtracks called Battle Bards. Some good stuff in there.

*MMO is stretched a bit here to include games like Destiny, Firefall, etc., but most of the focus is on more standard MMOs.

Important thing: The wonderful Tavern songs from Dragon Age : Inquisition are now free to download (officially) until the 9th February when they go on sale proper.
You can grab em...here. They are also releasing the sheet music for each track as well (all in the same zip file as PDF).

The OneUps seem like they would be a fun thing to see live.

Nier and Xenoblade have some nice soundtracks. It seems like if the game starts with Xeno- the music will be good

Thanks for the link to the Battle Bards, Garion. They look like they might interesting to listen to.

Moja's Theme from Loco Roco 2

Anyone who's a fan of Square-Enix's music (primarily the Square side) and remixes/arrangements really ought to check their SQ lineup of albums. The first three (Love, Chill, More) are in the NA iTunes shop but you can easily find the rest on YouTube.

Is it tacky to share my own stuff in here? 'Cause I'm going to do that.

I liked that, Podunk!

I still listen to this every now and then:

I hope whoever I just linked got your permission. If not, you're welcome?

Playing some Xenogears lately, grooving on this:

Haha, wow, I forgot all about this. I didn't realize it was on Youtube, but I don't mind--I gave it away for free download for years, and probably still would if I had remembered it.

I don't think I'd really be any good at the game, but I want to buy it because the soundtrack is really good.

I don't know what the rest of Sonic music is like but this song and variations has gotten me through the past few days

Anybody notice how modern Sonic and Knuckles and Amy all have monoeye?
